Young orphaned girls with no normal future awaiting them ✔, taken in and trained by the government to work as incognito gun slinging assassins ✔, employed under secret government agencies to do the dirty work of eliminating criminals and terrorists ✔. Anybody looking for such a rare and specific premise like this will be served well by watching these two titles. When it comes to girls with guns, GSG is a more serious classic set in Italy, while LycoReco is a more light-hearted 21st Century take set in Japan. Girls with guns. Action. Competent gunplay. If you're tired of isekai, no problem: these are regular fantasy stories. No summoned or reincarnated MCs from the modern world to be found here.

Short, sweet, cute and fluffy. Four key words one could confidently use to describe these two "demon queen x human boy" fantasy romcom titles, in more ways than one. Enjoyers of these cake-like qualities in one title will not be disappointed to read the other. p.s. only Maou-sama ni Shoukan sareta is an isekai, Maou-sama to Kekkon shitai is a regular fantasy story.

If I had a nickel for every time a mecha anime featured transformation mechanics requiring both a male and female pilot positioned in rather suggestive layouts in the cockpit, I'd have at least 2 nickels, which is not a lot but it's weird that it happened at least twice. These titles have it. Pilots in both stories also live in radically different societies than the norm, societies ruled by mysterious "Grandpa" / "Grandma" figures. In both instances the mechs are used to fight enemies of unknown origin and subsequently lead the pilots to go down a path of discovery about their unusual worlds.

Looking for overpowered and cute girls doing overpowered and cute things in a fantasy world? Maybe these two titles are what you're looking for. They have a lot in common with regards to key elements, like a setting in a typical fantasy adventure world, a cute yet amazingly powerful female MC and a handful of cute yet decently strong school friends. Who says strong magic and excellent swordsmanship in a female MC doesn't mix? Mile and Laura would like to have a word with them... These stories have a very similar feel. Fluffy with a healthy dose of adventure. If you enjoy one, you will likely enjoy the other as well.

A fresh and genuine adventure story. The thematic settings and the ambience may be opposites - it's high in the sky for the lighter Asebi to Sora and down in the abyssal depths for the darker Made in Abyss, but the feel of genuine adventure is present in these two titles. The element of danger is an ever present companion for the characters but the intrepid spirit of adventure is also there to drive them onward. Perhaps coincidentally, the young protagonists in these two titles also have a reliable robotic humanoid of the opposite sex as their respective partners on their journeys. It's remarkable how these two stories appear to be inversions of the other in many ways yet keep the same sense of fresh adventure. Fans of one title will likely enjoy the other.

If one is looking for the kind of socially awkward protagonist that has to face the struggles of adapting to a kind of life different from all they've known, these two series would have that protagonist. Military life, civilian life. These are two worlds that ordinarily do not mix - but in these titles they do to an extent; and so begins the trials of our main characters who experience this transition between both worlds. Watch and see just how they adapt (or fail to adapt) to this new lifestyle. Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it certainly works for me.

Let me make this connection. On the surface, it is tempting to recommend to a watcher of Yuuki Yuuna, a certain other magical girl anime. To me, however... I would like to skip the seemingly obvious and make the recommending connection to Neon Genesis Evangelion instead. When you boil away genre specifics, there is really a lot that YYwYdA and NGE have in common. Most obvious is the format - we have teenagers risking their lives, compelled to regularly defend a particular point in the city from attack by gigantic alien invaders. You have the Taisha and NERV serving as command & control, respectively. The means & tools are different, but the goal is the same. Yes, horrifying secrets are there for both series as well. If this format is your cup of tea, then one or the other might be up your alley. Hell, YY Karin's introduction is a dead ringer for NGE Asuka's own entrance into the story. Magical girls and mecha are to me mere flavors for what I see as really similar stories in these two titles.

First off, it's manga about a matchmaking system for the youth by the Japanese government - Koi to Uso explores the conflicts that can arise with such a system while Sore wa Totsuzen, Unmei no Aite ga is a lighter, more positive take on the subject. This is not a common plot in manga, so when I started reading Koi to Uso I immediately remembered Sore wa Totsuzen, Unmei no Aite ga - which I had read a long time ago. It's like two different sides of the same coin. Readers who like the topic would likely be interested in seeing the different takes these two titles present.

Grave Keepers; Burial; Twists and turns on being mortal and being human; Looking for manga with an interesting premise based on these? Titles that are different enough from your typical school romcoms? These two manga share all these plus their own interesting fantasy setting; far removed from any school if you're already sick of those. There is an air of mystery about the world in both stories, containing secrets that the protagonists come to find out. The female main character in both possess a degree of naivety but are not what they seem. One is certainly darker than the other, but certain themes and abilities will remind you of the other.
