This will be very brief and I will update once the series wraps up.

I just want to say right off you will see alot of people hating on the series as they do any of this genre. These days in anime if it's not something with an insane and over complicated plot it usually gets hate especially anything using remotely cliche arch types characters etc. If your not one of these people and actually watch for enjoyment and don't mind a show not being groundbreaking or using themes anime have used forever and got popular then keep reading.

Let me start off by saying that I have absolutely never been into this type of anime in the slightest and would even go as far as saying I really disliked them. I have never liked a lot of comedy in anime and especially not for it to be a focus. Never been into slice of life type stuff and have always liek more serious/dark toned anime. All that as well as the fact that i'm not really into cooking more than the next person and certainly don't know a ton about it. I ended up watching Food Wars! on a whim just after seeing ... and liking the art. I expected to just watch 1-2 episodes and hate it and I was very very wrong.

Honestly I can't really even say in particular what the biggest reason is that I loved Food Wars. It of course has a good solid story and as I said before I liked the art. Everything else is solid as well but there is just a good feeling it gives you as you watch. I don't mean a happy go lucky feeling but just a sort of content one I don't know how to explain.

Now I will try to review a few technical aspects of the anime which isn't my strong point. I like to focus more on how much I liked it and how easy it was to watch but I never everyone likes this aspect as well.

In terms of story Food Wars is pretty solid and though not completely new is very refreshing and at the least is creative. They also don't breeze past things like they do in alot of anime. Alot is shown of most characters history and pasts and why they cook but it also isn't super drawn out to where it get's boring. It's pacing is always very good at the first start though it does begin to get just a bit slow at parts about halfway through. The art is also good being that it's what brought me in at first to begin with.

The voice acting is also something I thought was very good in this anime. I usually don't focus to much on it unless it's just horribly bad but I thought in particular it was quite good in this anime. Now the main factor I think for me at least that I loved with Food Wars! was the characters. The mc Soma as i've said in many post is one of my favorites in a long time. He is different from alot of other male mcs and breaks free from alot of the cliches of them and annoying factors about them. He doesn't do stupid things that no human with a brain would do in terms of girls or any other interaction or how he goes about things and he just has an awesome personality that is kind of hard to explain sort of the perfect mix of serious and funny/sarcastic. You just have to watch.

Now though it blew my expectations away and it was very good. There where a few things with Food Wars! that could be better and may bother some people though they also may not. I mentioned before the pacing got slower as the series went on. This is mainly because there is a little stretch that though it could be argued it progressed some charrie development and such it seemed alot like filler and for me it's rough seeing 2-3+ episodes of filler in a 12-24 episode series. The second though this won't bother alot of people is alot of romance is hinted at at least mainly on the girls side and it seems like at least in this area Food Wars is gonna do the cliche as most other animes do. Have tons of hints and such at it and hold it off as long as possible then show it at the end for a brief moment though it isn't to bad because it isn't a very big factor in this anime. The last and for me most annoying thing is the judging. If your not familiar enough with the series there are different food battles and competitions and the judging can be quite drawn out and tedious at times. I have also heard from manga readers it only at the least stays the same or get's worse but it's not to horrible just slightly annoying.

Overall I would give Food wars a 8-8.5 and that is coming from someone who doesn't like this genre or arc types so there ya go. Highly surprised by it definitely.

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry (Anime) add

First off I definitely did not expect Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry t be this good. Just judging by the little I had read and the way it seemed it was going to go. I expected the usual new battle/harem/romance anime. Which usually consists of great art, good music,good fight animations and a weak to average story with normally average charries......I was wrong

It delivered in all the areas that I was already expecting with great art and fights. It then however came through with a pretty darn good story/backstory as well as very good and likable charries even the sides. Even fairly original and un common ... with Alice. Of course some things where shortened and so on but you can really tell how well written the story is from the light novels. The backstory and all of the charries storys is where it really shines. Looking at the plot bio you would think it's going to be a typical battle tourny anime but it's not. I love though that while being different and having a much better written story and more in depth than the usual type from this genre it still also delivered on all the points you would be expecting from the usual ones. It also surprisingly does a better job with the romance aspect than even most "romance" anime do. It's not to obviously rushed and the mcs relationship actually progresses instead of having awkward nothings happen all show then the last episode maybe having a confession or kiss.

I don't really like to rate anime on very technical aspects. I like to go more by how much I enjoyed and got into them but I will touch on some things briefly. Obviously with most newer anime unless your just into the very old anime art styles the art is great and the battle animations are very well done. The music is solid through out and is great in episode 12. Something it done fairly well that is a huge thing most anime fail at these days was pacing. If you want to be very picky you could say it was a slight bit rushed maybe but honestly it's very well paced for a 12 episode battle anime with all that it covered and covered pretty well. I also enjoyed this anime alot. To my surprise I enjoyed it more than I have an anime in a while especially of this genre.

If there is one bad point for Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry though I would have to say there is a bit to much fan service. I am not one for it and really could do without it period so that may be just me but if I had to pick at something that is it. It's not to bad but there are points where it seemed a bit to much to me though even with this being someone who dislikes fan service it was down in a sort of cute way and a big thing with me a way that didn't break story or make the charries seem stupid/to pervy/out of character. Also obviously with the show being made from a light novel series the ending leaves alot of things your going to want to see. It doesn't end badly however just leaves you wanting more which is the point I suppose being that most of these anime are made to promote source materiel and they did that very well. I haven't even touched the light novels and can pretty much see an idea of where it goes from where the anime left off and would love to see it. Just kind of annoying for those anime watchers out there who don't also read light novels. There usually isn't a season 2 for this sort of promotion anime but hopefully there will be.

Overall I give Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry a 8.5 and could easily give it a 9 if they laid off the fan service just a bit. I would also probably go up a bit if the way they did the ending wasn't so obvious that it was made pretty much solely to promote the light novels. I get it and understand but being someone that is not really into lns and mainly being into anime it get's a bit frustrating knowing all this anime are pretty much made with intent in mind of having no second season unless it just completely blows up like an SAO or Tokyo Ghoul and was just made to get Japanese to buy the lns. Being an american anime fan really is s struggle sometimes lololol. Definitely recommend watching though!

Absolute Duo (Anime) add

Let me start off with that I do reviews more based on my enjoyment of the show and how much I got into it and things of that nature opposed to very technical aspects though i'll get into that a bit as well.

I knew nothing about Duo other than about a two sentence description going in. Honestly the story is a bit weak. The general idea is pretty good but there alot of sort of oddness and things that don't get touched on. In other words some plot holes. I wasn't really in Duo for the story though.

The place where Duo shines I think are ... the charries. As with alot of anime especially in this genre today I think are alot more character powered and centered than plot/story. Which is fine by me for the most part. There is nothing really special about any of them in terms of being something new or different. They can all fit different tropes but they are very likable and done well for the most part especially the female mc Julie. The male mc however is probably in my opinion the dullest/boring of the cast. The sound and music is pretty good and as with most new anime the art is good as well and my preferred style.

There isn't a whole lot to say about this anime in terms of story and things of that nature it's what I would call just one of those guilt pleasure anime. Not a very good plot/story and nothing really special about it but still enjoyable. However one thing I liked that you don't see with alot of anime of this type was the little thing they threw in of having the male and female mcs be roomed together at the school for the entire anime. I have thought about this many times before in anime and wondered why they don't take advantage of the chances to do this considering how many more options and choices it gives them for different scenes and relationship building among other things. Seems every time the few times i've seen that they do it it's more the "angry raging or oh you perv *slap*" type girls and it's not really taken serious and is more there just to be a joke and cause corny humor. It was nice to see the male and female mcs be roomed the whole show and it be done more normal and less comedic. You see male and female charries and mcs roomed together alot in normal rooms or houses living together but not roomed alone together in a school/academy setting.

Other than this not much to say really. If your looking for a deep intellectual masterpiece or great story then skip Duo. If your looking for a fun show with good charries,art,sound then give it a try. Overall I give it a 7 and probably should even be lower but I give it an 8 for enjoyment and that's what I like to go by :p.

Charlotte (Anime) add

Well to sum it up I was first excited for Charlotte but got a bit disappointed because pretty much everything that I seen from people about it was very negative especially about the second half of the show. So going in I was prepared to be let down however I was not. The show isn't really what most people make it out to be.

I'll start off by saying while yes there are some things wrong with it It is a good watch and I recommend it tho if your mainly looking for romance like with most Key shows. This one isn't as focused on that. ... It is more focused on the plot though there is hints through out and a good relationship is built. Without spoilers there is a slight bit of romance at the end as well.

Now for the actual review. The first half of Charlotte is pretty much a building block for the plot and world as well as getting you attached to the main charries and learning about them. It is much more out right and what you would expect from most anime as well as a key anime. However there is a huge twist mid way through that completely flips things upside down. This twist is what I mostly seen people complain about because it pretty much makes the while anime do a 360 in tone,direction and everything you can thing of. I also don't blame them because at first as it's happening. It is quite confusing and if you were enjoying the feel and tone of the first half can annoy you quite a bit. I was kind of thrown off myself at first and didn't like it but after a few episodes thinks begin to make more and more sense and if you stick with it. The turn actually becomes quite good and the show does return to it's roots later on. Pretty much there is 2-2.5 episode stretch tho where it's chaos after the twist and very rough. Make it through that though and it's becomes very good once more.

I don't really like to rate shows based on very technical aspects like sound and so on. I prefer judging based on how I enjoyed it as well as how into it I got and things of that nature. However for this reviews sake quickly. The art as you can see from previews and so on is very good. Nothing amazingly new character design wise but they all look good and it's well done. It's also a style I prefer.

The story is unique in it's own right. I don't need to really give you a description as those are already there for you but long story short. Good looking conceited and selfish kid with a power/special ability uses it to take advantage and accel in life not caring what ti does to others. He thinks he is the only one with a power. He gets taken in against his choice by a group of other teens with powers and forced to join a student council for their own school which is made specifically to catch people with ability's like them and bring them into this school safely so they won't be caught by others and in the government and so on. Without spoiling its far more detailed but some of the charries already have had many horrible experiences with thi type of thing. The mc begins helping them. Realtionships grow though it's done very well especially with the two mcs. It's not just slung into a quick I suddenly love you type deal.Then of course the huge twist happens and chaos ensues for awhile lol.

With this show you almost have to break it into 3 parts. The first part which is like the first 5-7 episodes I forget the exact number then when the twist happens and about 2-3 episodes after that then the rest as the third part. The first part is pretty common and the most normal of how things go in the usual anime of this genre/type and is decently paced maybe if anything a slight bit slow. The second part is chaos. It's hard to even put into words but I guess you could say it's slow and to fast at the same time? It happens way to fast but they also have it take way to long to start making sense and I think that's what through people off. Until your shown differently it looks like the show [not gonna spoil] but is gonna take a horrible route. It comes back on course however and you see it didn't go the way it was looking like it could. Now the third part is not bad but very very very rushed. The last episode especially. I expected this though as almost all anime with a decent story are rushed today being 13 episodes and not getting a second season. I'm not exaggerating when I say VERY rushed lol. The last episode in 20 minutes literally contains the start of the whole final task the whole anime has been building up to. The task itself that is a large task that could fill episodes itself. Then a return as well as a wrap up with the other mc lol. The ending is well as I just said very rushed lol. It's not bad but for some will leave a bitter taste in your mouth as alot of these kinda endings do. It's a sweet decent ending not bad really. But if your looking for the epic and dramatic I love you kiss and hug into the sunset your not going to get it.

Honestly overall with the story. Though I liked it and it was good it seemed that it was just something that was built for 2 or even 3 seasons and they knew going in they where going to have to rush only having one and smashed it into one. Which is where I think the chaos plot twist comes in because they had to do it with so little time.I think they could have made a 12-13 season with the first part of things easily before the plot twist then a 12-13 episode season when the plot twist occurs and all the events and everything after that and then a 3rd 12-13 season with the mcs final task wrapping it up and the ending. But instead it's all smashed into 13 episodes. That I think is the biggest bad mark on Charlotte. Kind of amusing to considering this was supposed to be an attempt by the creator of Angel Beats! to make up for it being so rushed lololol. Creators never learn.

The main thing I loved about the show though was the charries. I love the female mcs attitude and personality and so. Also the male mc while dislikable at first is weirdly likable as well at the same time if that makes sense lol. I probably wouldn't like him in another anime but in this story and he and the female mc mix so well that it works perfectly. The other charries while likable aren't really remarkable.

The sound is very fitting for the show and while nothing jumped at me other than the music in one scene that I thought was great. It's solid.

I give Charlotte an 8 but in all honesty am more at about a 7.5. I liked it and would say watch it but be prepared for that 2-2.5 episodes of confusion and badness as well as a rushed pace. If it wasn't so rushed and things where wrapped up a little better I would give it a 8-8.5 and if that little stretch of chaos wasn't done so badly possibly even higher. In my opinion Charlotte ended up being a show with the story/art/sound/ and potential to be a great/amazing show but ended up being a slightly above average with some flaws one.
