This is going to be a short review to express what i think from the first 3 chapters that i have read of imouto-akane.
First of all, its about two siblings that have no blood relations splitting up 3 years prior to the story. we find out that they split due to their parents dying. Now the Older brother has promised that he will save 1 million yen, and then retreive akane. whom he has left in the custody if his aunt and uncle.
the basis of the story i have no problems with, your sterotypical "no blood relation" sibling love (which is hinted may i
...
enphasise as there is no evidence shown yet). however this falls downhill from the start, when he finds her its all downhill from there, we see scenarios of student teacher bullying, attempted rape. and scumbags sending akane to a brothel to pay debt.
for someone that has read and enjoyed yume de aetera (same author) this fails in comparison, the light hearted simple yet cute romance is bludgeoned with fraudsters, raping perverts. and this just didn't suit my tastes
Art however is a different story, nice and crisp, different to what you see from most manga's and generally feels nice to read. the artists impression of characters also clearly show you their personalities and traits, which for me was dissappinting as the main character looked like an ass. in addition to that, the "baddies" in the story up to now, looked like middle aged stalkers on drugs, the worst thing is that up to now, almost all the characters fall into this catergory.
I really cant say i enjoyed this manga as you can tell from the points i have given it, by all means give it a try and have a feel for it. because im pretty sure it'll lead to a fairly decent romance/drama and comedy manga, but for now, its definately not meeting expectations.
Ill keep reading for another couple of months and see how it goes, hopefully it'll become a good manga in the future.

This review is a direct result from watching 12 episodes of the anime, and will likely not be of much use apart from expressing my fairly negative opinons of this anime.
First of all i would like to say that the backgrounds for the story is gene starwind the main character of this anime who starts of as a bounty hunter of some sort with his sidekick james. this then leads on to them taking on oddjobs and becoming bodyguards of hilda, leading to the rescue of melphina and the control of the most advanced ship in the galaxy later
...
to be known as Outlaw Star. The basis of the storyline is actualy fine, a crew of people searching for the galactic leyline and Genes own vendetta with the macdougall brothers and adventure ensures.
The overall art is fine in this production and may arguably be considered brilliant during the time of when it was produced 1998. this has been taken into consideration, but compared to animes such as Fullmetal Alchemist or Bleach, it falls quite behind. As for the sound of Outlaw star, i really cant say i have too much complaints, and it doesn't really affect the rating overall imo. the OP and ED are fine and they're nice to listen to not much more comment is needed.
NOW as for the character which has directly lead me to drop this anime and give a fairrly negative experience. I cant say i have much sympathy for Gene, he's rash, ignorant, emotional, retarded and sympathetic all at the same time. which makes it MUCH worse, considering i dropped the anime 20 mins of writing this the feelings are quite fresh in my memory, and are till going on as i speak.
When you find a person that is trying to kill you, laughing his head off at you and acting ignorant, i would personally shoot him a couple of times in the leg, kick the crap out of him, hold him at gunpoint, maybe spit on him a few times. get the information and KILL him. but no, our main character is nice, he stands there watching the anti-protoganist hack into Outlaw star, and then push him aside and run out into a long STRAIGHT corridor. this leads to gene chasing him and shooting him once which MISSES. I cannot accept the fact that gene a supposedly great bounty hunter can miss a guy who is apparently 3 metres ahead of him wounded, and then not give chase and finish him off, its crazy.
another retarded character is aishi, she talks a load of bull, and attacks people on the grounds that they know a person she dislikes, this then leads her into many awkward situations which i think is supposed to be funny? but i just think is retarded. she redeemed herself once, but i dont think it was enough.
sorry that i have spent half of this review bitching off gene and aishi, but other than those 2 characters the rest are fine. but because of those 2 the overall experience for me was poor, and i dropped it. if anyone knows me, they know however bad an anime is, i tend to see it through. but gene was just too much for me to handle, and i was close to strangling myself to watch his reactions and decisions.
another negative which is only on personal level is the science included in the anime. considering the age of humankind has reached that level, i was expecting a more advanced means of space technology, my own mind just cannot recognise in 1000 or so years time, humans will still need a space suit from the first ever space walk, corded telephones, poor calculations of planetary gravity pull and speed of movement, and an AI computer that goes "hhmm, o" before saying that that there are missles which are going to it in a couple of seconds.
if you have read to this point im happy you've been brave enough to bear through the ranting, and i hope i haven't wasted too much of your time
if you can bear with gene's attitude or even sympathize with it watch it by all means. and overall its a good anime to watch. just not for me, as i was expecting more of a romance orientated and not a retard fest.

Well im not gonna give this movie a review straight tens. nothing's that perfect >_>, but im not gonna slaughter is and give it 1-2's, ive seen far worse.
Lets start off with the Story, zombies roaming around? leon and claire kicking some ass? include a new character here and there and bring back the favourite bosses from resident evil 2. There you have it 1 movie ready to go.
Although it wasn't a brilliant piece with the story, it was acceptable, going with the trend of main character leon rampaging through zombies with abit if bullet-time motion wasn't bad at all. i admit, this was'nt
...
the masterpiece that obviosuly some people expected, but it was a valid sequel to the games. world is on the verge of crisis, and you have the main characters defeat bosses, and whole horde of zombies. worth watching for zombie/resident evil fans, but dont expect too much.
As for the Art, in terms of CG i have yet to see better. i personally found this absolutely outstanding. but saying that, the fact it isn't played by real people tones down the horror to the movie. From the games i got huge suspense and true horror from playing leon and claire, even with resident evil movies i got scared slightly. you wont get the same feeling with a CG movie, it's all for the action. we'll just have to wait for next gen CG when we can't tell the difference between real acting and CG!
As for Sound, i dont know if it's because the animation was molded to fit japanese speech, but most of it was fairly poor voice acting combined with CG. most of the time, both of which never fitted together. sayign that though, leon's voice was acceptable, it fit his chacacter and it was more or less the same to Resident evil 4, far more mature.
And for the music at the end, it was a poor song overall. i dont personally like it, but im sure some of you out there might like it. nothing to put you down on watching the movie though. (i dont think most of you will put off watching a movie because the credit music was abit rubbish, right?)
Well, coming from a movie i dont really expect much chacacter development. but for claire i felt deeply disappointed. she played such a big role in the games, and sometimes cooperated with leon as well. i really wanted to see that incorporated in the movie. she was also really played down as a self surviving woman. the producers most of the time didn't give her a gun or proper weapon? she was more of a damsel in distress! (but most people know she's amazing in the games).
Leon i dont really have much of an opinion over, he kept to his protognaist role and did a fine job of it, more than happy with that. as for the "new" characters one word that descibes them best "lame" and maybe a second, "sterotypical". you have a bossy stuck up senator. Arnie cop that wants all the point blank shots and gets owned >_>, and lastly the hot cop that fills the role for claire. saying that Angela wasn't bad to look at for 2 hours of the movie lol :P
Overll, i really enjoyed this movie. that's probably because im a zombie/horror/action movie fan, but regardless it's definately a movie worth a watch.

Story
The story follows up from the first season, i have to admit that the pace at the beginning is usually quite slow, unlike the first season with plenty of action and fighting scenes, this may have put the orginal fans of shana season1 in quite a dilema since it was like watching another anime, but after episode 12, the flavour of season 1 truly makes a great entry and i feel this starts the fireworks for season 2, bringing back what we liked best from the first season.
Art
In my personal opinion there are no complaints on the art of shana, its quite bold, flashy,
...
and flows well with the rhythm of the anime itself, and later on in the anime this also becomes apparent during the fight scenes where you see shana's flame and wind effects which in my opinion challange animations from kyoto animations
Sound
not much to say here, the music overall is very good throughout, creating ideal moods for the relevant situations in the anime. only disappointing thing is that there is no new opening after episode 13!
Character
Comapared to the first season, this time round the beginning of the anime is totally based on character development, the audience can feel more connected with the characters, and they see quite alot of "slice of life". you know eating, drinking, socialising, theme parks, school, w/e .
Duriing this period you can really see shana and yoshida "mature" from the first season, instead of the constant bickering, they learn to understand each others situation and independantly try to gain yuji's love.
in my own personal opinion, definately a bonus to see yuji learn to develop his skills at the beginning of each episode. (they were my highlights :D)
Enjoyment
now that the stories gone back to the fight scenes and action, i am now definately complelled to watch the rest of the season, arguably by some of the more "mature" audience its a definate improvement of shana 1, but personally, i thoroughly enjoyed it going "back" to the action like shana and hope it continues to do so.
Overall
Great Anime to watch, definite for the romance/action audience out there, and definately for the people that have seen the first season
2 thumbs up!
