So, I'm going to be pretty blunt here, and it's not a review at all, more of a PSA to anyone who wants to watch this series.
The first season of Kimi ni Todoke is a complete waste of time, unless that's your initial motivation for watching the show in the first place. The first season moves at such an horrifically slow pace it's a wonder that I actually got through it all. My motivation for doing so was the linguring hope that: "This will be the episode where something happens! I know it is!".... Well, that moment never came..
Though the artistry, the CGI and character
...
development is pretty solid, it just isn't enough to justify a higher mark than what I've given it (3/10). The thing that is consistent throughout both series is the realism of the characters, they certainly reminded me of people whom I used to be affiliated with at school.
With that said... I highly recommend the 2nd season of this show, it was such a refreshing change of pace. And although many people seemed to sneer at the introduction of a the new character [Kento], I found that it actually kept things interesting and although initially you may not take to him too favourable, I think he was pretty vital in keeping a casual, fun atmosphere to each episode. With Ryu and Pin supporting.
There are plenty of flash-backs in the second-season that link back to the important moments of the first, that there's no reason to watch the first 25 episodes. You will not be missing out of the plot development... Simply because... Well, there wasn't any.
But ye, go watch the second season, it's good fun and pretty fucking cute, you'll be content with the ending I assure you, but there is certainly a possibility for a continuing season where we can see where the characters develop in the future. After 35 episodes leading up to the climax, I think we're owed a season that shows how their decision manifests for better or for worse.
I just want to say that the star of this show is Ryu, that guy made it pretty etertaining throughout the series, he provided solid comic-relief when it was needed, but he wasn't just a one-dimensional character, he's somebody that I think everybody knew at their high-school. So of course it's fun to reminisce about the good ol' days of high-school.
Sorry for the shitty, monotonous post. Just don't want people waste their time with watching this season, so go watch the second!
Peace, Circos.
