Sherlock once said "I never guess. It is a shocking habit,—destructive to the logical faculty", a quote which any and every viewer of this particular anime should be able to relate... as Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace never will never provide you the time or opportunity to even begin guessing as to how a crime came to occur let alone guess who committed the deed. Unfortunately this mystery anime likely deserves to be tagged as a 'psychological' anime more than it does a mystery anime.


Story: 4/10
This anime annoyed me immensely as I really, and I mean really wanted to like it far more than ... I do after completing all 11 episodes. In all honesty each case had the potential to have so much depth and when combined with dark undertones in the art and sound I couldn't help but get a little excited.

However, every ounce of suspense and my excitement would suddenly dissipate in each and every episode (note that this anime fits every case into singular episodes with exception to the last case). As quickly as I could find my self getting slightly excited I would find myself being spoon fed an extremely underwhelming 'answer' that had been put together by a slightly haphazard trio in mere seconds. And I use the term 'answer' over 'theory' because every word of their theories would hit the nail so hard on the head that the culprit would just come out and admit everything on the spot without fail.

If it was that easy then why go as far to call it a mystery? Fortunately there is an under-lying plot regarding our prestigious but mundane detective Akechi and a person in his past, which links in well (credit where it's due) to almost every episode that may gain one's attention. But yet again there is hardly any sort of 'detective work' required and almost everything is spoon fed to the viewer. The only beneficial compromise is that the viewer is then able to focus on questioning the morals of the scenario but even with that the entire scenario felt over inflated in terms of it's impact on the world and the people who inhabit it. I was told to expect a mystery anime not a psychology lesson.


Art & sound: 8/10
I place these two together as when combined they were probably the saving graces of this anime.

The OP and ED music for me are perhaps the best of this seasons anime's and for me the most original; the ED especially managed to send a small chill down my spin the first few times I heard it as both of these areas have dark undertones. Refreshingly, there are very few bright colourful parts to this anime as it is instead filled with deep, rich, dark colours and 'mischievous' music which help to create a nice tension and theme for a 'Game of Laplace'. This somehow well crafted theme is most likely what was able to keep me going through all 11 episodes without making a complaint.
(Note: As I would hope from modern standards, I did not notice any drops in quality of animation)

Character: 5/10
The focus is primarily on 3 young boys who if I'm really honest, regretfully do little more than bounce off of each-other and the support cast to help provide a little life to the anime. If one were to look hard enough they may find a shred of depth among them but you might need to enlist Sherlock's help for that. As a result I'm left with very little to describe them with.

1st we have the young super genius, canned coffee drinking detective Akechi. I believe the 'anime' term that would best suit him is 'kuudere' (cold, blunt, cynical but might care slightly some-where with-in). However without providing spoilers and only having 11 over-filled episodes (1-case fitted into each 25min episode) there isn't much else to say unfortunately other than he does see a little bit of character development.

Next we have Kobayashi our bored gender trap (he's male) who finds murder cases and similar things fun. But unfortunately there is almost no attempt what-so-ever to help the viewer understand his unique character...

And finally we have Hashiba who is perhaps the most rational character in this anime... except when it comes to Kobayashi as it would seem Hashiba is ensnared in the gender trap; this helps bring some humor to the anime but again, there isn't much else to say unfortunately.


Enjoyment and overall: 5.5/10
I meant it when I wanted to like this anime, I really did. It brought a change of pace from the multi-coloured hair and everyone lives happily every after in a world full of big boobed girls anime that have come to swarm the anime industry in recent years. The art and music got me excited for a mystery or two with depth, and I might still download the OP and ED. BUT for me, with much remorse, Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace falls painfully short of the mark. All that was needed was to make it necessary for the characters to actually spend some time solving and struggle slightly with the cases..*sigh*-If only...

Where to start with this beautifully crafted 6 episode long (Yes I'm going to say it) masterpiece?

I suppose the plot is probably a good place to begin. Put simply the entire plot both revolves and does not revolve a singular quiet little café and scores a 1010 with ease in my book. "That makes no sense I hear you utter towards your screen' (that or i'm hearing voices inside my head) So let me explain, here the characters are all involved in a nationworld wide debate on how robots should be viewed and treated, but at the same time the anime hints and centres around ... the fact that various and the most basic of interactions, in somewhere such as a quiet little cafe, can make the most significant differences in the lives of everyday people (and robots - but I shouldn't differentiate between the two as per the intriguing rules of the café which helps set the basis of the anime).
Anymore and I'd be giving spoilers. But I will add that the ending is very satisfactory and well done in my opinion with most questions answered and plenty of room for more content (please by the power of god, grey skull, or anything let there be)

Characters: The characters are sublime and all have their own unique personalities. Eve no jikan excels in displaying how by negating outside social implications from people they can truely come to know and understand each-other where as they couldn't before hand. To summarise, there is a truckload of very well paced character development to be found here, especially in the two main male protagonists as they come to understand, accept and reject the world around them along with its people.

Art and sound: The art was very good and I had no problems what so-ever throughout the entirety of the anime. The sound complemented the art beautifully and set a unique air/feeling (meant in a brilliant way). I really don't think they could have done a better job.

Overall enjoyment:
I was almost immediately captivated by this anime which I will have to rewatch again in the near future. It was an anime that got me thinking but did all the thinking for me and left a slight grin on my face by the end of it. Not only does it reflect how much of a problem social stigma is but also how easy it is to overcome (and give into). Not only did it make me cry it made me smile. Not only do I view this anime to be good, I view it to be one of the greatest pieces of work I may ever see and will recommend it to anyone at the drop of a hat.

In other words this is a must see for anyone who respects good story telling and I am overwhelmed by the fact that I only came across eve no jikan by chance.

I've read a couple of reviews bashing IS2 quite heavily now and whilst I feel that many of their points are justified and I agree with most of them... I can't help but feel the need to throw this series a life-line. For a summary skip to 'enjoyment' section.

Story: 5
The only word I can think of to describe the story in IS2 in a nut-shell would have to be 'filler'.
The story is effectively non-existent consisting mostly of the girls (Ichika's harem - which he remains completely oblivious to as is now a custom with harems echii or not as it would seem) throwing their ... boobs and panties thrown in every possible direction with the occasional fight here and there... (here it comes) ... HOWEVER... whilst this season is effectively fan-service there is a small plot running throughout that left me wondering 'how long until #### goes down' with a sense of excitement.
In addition a number of the antics that were thrown into the mix left me laughing or giggling at the very least and I liked the art quite a lot too.

I think the issue people have here is that things don't 'go down' until the end where things finally begin to heat up, but even then there isn't a conclusive end to the arc... This leaves me with the feeling that the producers are planning to develop it in a third season (or at-least I hope - I'm not sure how closely it follows the manga either). I know its hopeful but it really could pull the series back into perspective story wise.

Art: 8
Nice art work which felt fluent and well drawn throughout the series with some nice detail on the IS's (which are used more than you might think they would after reading comments about the story). The characters looked fairly good including in any echii scenes for those who are interested.

Sound: 6
Sound was average in all honesty with ok intro and outro music. Although some credit has to be given to the voice actors who did a decent job (I'd be shocked if they didn't considering some of the talent there).

character: 5
All of the characters remain the same throughout this season as you (probably and if you haven't then go look at the first series) saw at the end of the first without any character development what so ever; even the 'near-ish romantic' bit is completely forgotten about for all those hopefuls.
The only glint of development from season 1's characters arises from Ichika's big sis which is towards the end if at-all.
The saving grace (if it can be called that) is the introduction of two new characters of which one shows some development over a few episodes.

Enjoyment: 8
Overall despite a stagnant story, very little character development and feeling slightly let-down from season 1 as a result... I somehow really enjoyed this series to put it bluntly. I loved some of the scenario's however cliche some of them may be simply because of how they were executed. I liked the well-drawn art style and loved the battles that were included in it (though I wish the battles were focused on a little more and I've seen more 'epic battles' in other anime). I can't quite explain it... All I can say is that despite its criticisms IS2 is still worth a watch & that I'm still left wanting a season 3.

So this is my first review after watching 40+ anime but I guess I've got to start somewhere.
Green Green is probably the most cliche, poorly animated, poorly voiced, poorly scripted (admittedly I watched it in English dub) but one of the most enjoyable anime's I have seen in a long time. In other words its so bad its good(ish) and I probably only enjoyed it because I just went through a spell of anime's with serious & depressing story lines...

The basis of the story is that a boarding school in the middle of no-where which was (& still is technically) an all boys school recently ... thought of combining with another school & becoming co-ed; as a result a group of girls come to stay & study there for a month as a trial-run. No points for originality but its fair enough for a echi harem romance right?

Oh and there's some forbidden love thing going on but you needn't care about that (seriously its the most awfully executed thing in existence)

The issue is that for these to work you need to at-least have to have 1 of two good things (preferably both) 1) depth to the characters 2) Enough detail in the character design and enough fan-service for people not to care about the characters... though even then it can be very distasteful...
Green Green unfortunately has neither... The characters personalities are as bland as their design (I think water might have more flavour). There is little-no character development and even the main protagonist only gets a minor back story... and minor efforts in his design.

The only saving grace for this anime is that whilst the main plot is sooo easy to predict that you'll eat your shoe if you don't get it right, there are 3 support characters (the main protagonists best friends) that save the day with unpredictable but sometimes cliché antiques (but be warned some of them will scar your eyes for life and everyone of them can only be described as cringe worthy).

Overall this anime is almost a cliché abomination with almost no effort put into it; however if you want something to drop a bomb on a pile of deep deep emotions from anime that are weighing you down, simply want something with a lighter tone, or want an anime that can easily make another one look good then this might just be worth a watch.
