Dorohedoro is unlike any manga that blends gore and comedy together in a splendid way.

Story: 7

The manga series is unique to say the least. Dorohedoro has astounding world building, which is significant to the plot. The biggest issue I had with the story is the pacing in the second half of the manga. I felt that the pacing was too slow until the very end when the pacing shifts to being too fast. the mystery, in my opinion, is the best part of the story

Dorohedoro has exceptional art. By merely using images, the author was able to convey significant information ... regarding the characters and the story.

Characters 8:

The characters are very likeable, and their isn't really any characters that I dislike, and that is saying something since there is a large cast of characters. Nonetheless, there was no unique character that stood above the rest.

Enjoyment 7:

The manga series is pretty enjoyable to read. Although, During the second half of the series, I felt that I was forcing myself complete the series. That was due to the pacing issues I mentioned, and the constant switch of focus between characters that I cared less about.

Lastly, the series is unique and is worthy of reading. There are a few pacing issues, but the mystery is what keeps the pacing to not truely affect the series.

Dorohedoro is a series I have put off reading before the anime was even announced. The cover of the MC with a lizard head put me off of giving the series a chance. Now that I have watched the anime, I plan to read the manga which is what any anime should strive to do.

Story: 7

Originality is the essence of what makes the anime enjoyable and interesting . To be more precise, the mystery is what keeps the audience intrigued to very end. The only negative aspect of the show is a few episodes do lose track of the plot and become a ... bit more filler. Those episodes are still enjoyable and the anime does bring back focus to the main plot quickly.

Dorohedoro is how an anime should do CG. Th colour of the characters (especially the main character) is fluid, which is something I don't usually notice.

Sound: 7

I am not fan of the opening as I usually skip it, but the background and the sound of fights are exceptional.

Characters: 9

My favourite aspect of Dorohedoro are the characters. Do not get me wrong. Their isn't a character that is exceptional then the rest but rather, the pool of characters in the series are great. Pretty much all the characters in the series have something about them that is likeable, and have a place in the story.

Enjoyment: 8

I enjoyed Dorohedoro more then I thought I would. The series contains serious to comedic moments, and it isn't done in a way that confuses the audience. After watching the episode, I immediately want to start the next. Unfortunately, it is only 12 episodes and I would have liked it to have at the very least 24 episodes.

Overall, the series was very enjoyable to watch. After watching the series, I instantly want to read the manga. Don't think I can wait until the next season is released.

This is my first review of any series in MAL.


Story: The story of 'Dear Boy' lacks in originality. The series is a revenge tale that simply exits to make the reader feel a plethora of gratification as the revenge tale takes place. The pacing of the series is decent. The Webtoon has two seasons. I felt that the first season ended strongly, but then the story continued. The second season felt like filler and unnecessary for the most part. Throughout the first season concepts surrounding bullying and revenge were briefly mentioned, but the second season tried to further explore those topics. Unfortunately, I felt ... that the second season did not accomplish what it tried to convey to the readers.

Art: The art is the best part of 'Dear Boy'. The black and white colours fits with the tone of the Webtoon. You can feel the intensity of the fight scenes and the expressions of the characters blends well with the atmosphere.

Characters: Excluding a few characters, most of the cast are one dimensional. It isn't a negative aspect since 'Dear Boy' takes advantage of the readers a feeling good when the bullies 'get' what they deserve. The MC is badass, and serves well as the protagonist of the Webtoon. The main antagonist felt one dimensional at first but by the end, you understand him, but do not sympathise with him.

Enjoyment: The enjoyment of 'Dear Boy' comes from the aspect that this series gives you a feeling of sadism. You feel good when the bullies get pummelled. The issue is that the series kind of speaks of revenge as an acceptable response to bullying. I mention 'kind of' because the series dabbles between whether it is the right or wrong response. The answer is never clear.

Overall: In conclusion, I enjoyed 'Dear Boy' for what it was. A revenge tale with great action scenes. The first season was well developed, but the second season felt lackluster, and more like filler. Some characters lack in personality but the main characters are given a plausible reason for their actions. Overall I give this series a 6, which means it is above average.
