I really wanted to love this manga. There were a lot of things I liked about it, but there were things that were disappointing. Maybe the other reviews had me believing it would be deeper than it was, I'm not sure, but I was sad after I finished reading it and couldn't say that I loved it... Let's talk about the good/ bad!
---------------------------------------------
STORY 5/10: As the other reviews said, there isn't really any story like this one, but it isn't completely new either. While I love unique stories, I had to rate this one much lower because I didn't understand exactly what was happening half
...
the time.
As someone who is also a comic artist, I saw there were many flaws in the way the artist did the panels, making it hard to follow along. The issue was that there were NOT ENOUGH panels to clearly understand what was happening in each scene, and this was happening all the time! I kept going back to previous pages to closely analyze them in an effort to understand, but I still couldn't always. I could get the gist of the story, but if that is the case, it makes it much less enjoyable.
There were interesting things in the story, but others that seemed randomly thrown in without anything leading up to it or even hinting at it, like Kohaku's issue with one of the teachers at school. The way that Kohaku's power seemed out-of-the-blue was a little off-putting. There was no indication of anything supernatural before getting into his backstory, which I believe was a big mistake. Even just a small incident with Kohaku, showing there was something supernatural about him before uncovering his backstory would have been compelling! However, waiting to show his face until the final chapters was a great decision! It was much more impactful that way. There was also a good reason for him picking up Ichiko in the beginning of the story, like he saw himself in her. So you can see... there were decisions that the mangaka made that I loved, while others, I wondered why they made them?
CHARACTERS 6/10: First, the character designs were great! An adorable, petite bob-haired girl and a tall, long-haired guy who always wears a mask and never shows his face... I LIKED that! I think those two had really great chemistry when it came to romance. I wished it was explored more, though.
*SPOILERS* (you can skip)
I liked the idea of Ichiko running away from home because of her loneliness and unease in her own home. The reason for her leaving, which was accidentally kicking her sister's baby, causing fear/anger in her home, was a unique idea! I liked that! However, I think it was over-dramatized and I thought if they had just taken it a step further, it would have been more interesting. For example, if the baby was actually very injured, or if the baby died because of her, there would be much bigger trauma and reason for her to stay in that house with the other characters. It still would have been an innocent accident, but it'd be a much heavier burden on her and would match her situation more to Kohaku's so that they could connect more as characters.
For Kohaku, the idea of him wearing the masks because of his abilities was a good move! BUT the manga didn't make it clear why exactly he needed it? I thought it kept him from seeing spirits, but then he was still acting like he could see/talk to them... Maybe it was because he resembled his mom and they were trying to hide that? The manga shouldn't make me question the reason of that so much. It's not bad to leave things open-ended, but when the reader is just confused, that's no good either. It would have been nice to see more development in Kohaku's character, from a scared child into a man. That development was not very clear to me.
The love rival... gosh... the love rival. I don't even remember his name, and on top of that, I didn't even realize they were rivals in love! I could tell he was flirty with Ichiko, but he seemed like that with any girl? I could tell Kohaku would sometimes get jealous, but he didn't do much other than get a little jealous. At the very end, when the love rival was like "I lost." I was thinking, "What?? You were fighting to begin with? When did you develop feelings for her?"
*END SPOILERS*
The other characters were okay, but they probably could have been taken out (or at least some of them) and it wouldn't have affected the story.
ART 7/10: The art style was pretty good. I especially loved the way the author drew faces and eyes. The outfits looked cute too! When Kohaku took off his mask, I was enamored by his face and eyes!! The author made him so handsome and I took screenshots so I could try out that art style myself. When a manga does that to me, then the art feels unique!
On the other hand, the way they decided to draw some scenes were just so confusing. As I mentioned, there were not enough panels to show exactly what was going on. On top of that, the positions of the characters were not always ideal to understand the situation or feelings. I found myself staring at one panel for a while trying to figure out what was happening in that panel. It needed more dramatic poses, more close-ups to convey emotions, and a little more life to it because the characters felt a little static as far as movement goes.
ENJOYMENT (5/10): I spent hours on this manga, but I couldn't really enjoy it. I was struggling too much to understand what was going on. Maybe some of it had to do with the translation, but I just think it also has to do with the layout of it. The story could have been far deeper, which is what I was expecting, but it didn't get there. Not only was the pacing frustrating, but the mood was just all over the place. The most enjoyable moments, to me, were the romantic moments between the two MCs. You could feel their love for each other in the way that they always embraced one another for comfort and they were there for each other. That's why I'm so sad I didn't enjoy it like I wanted to.
There were good an bad ideas, but I think it didn't reach it's full potential with any category.

This shoujo manga pokes fun at many of the shoujo cliches while also being an adorable and sweet shoujo! I laughed out loud so many times from the jokes, I squealed a little from some of the cute moments, and I even teared up at the romantic parts (maybe I'm just easily moved). The thing that this manga did was actually make me care about and like all of the characters, which is a MUST for a shoujo manga.
------------------------------------
STORY (6/10): Not the most original, I have to say. It hasn't done anything that hasn't been done before, really, but it does it WELL. I was
...
never bored with the story despite the cliches because the manga was self-aware.
ART (8/10): The art is very nice. It also isn't the most original kind of art style, but I do love this style a lot! The use of screentones and the mangaka's style of linework make it pop! It is not boring-looking at all. It's very lively!
CHARACTER (8/10): As I mentioned before, all of the characters are likeable. Some side characters bugged me a bit at first, since they were rude, but they grew on me. They were mainly for comic relief and got quite a few laughs from me. As for the two main characters, I LOVED their development. Both the "prince" and the "commoner" girl changed throughout, and it was at a good pace.
The girl didn't have time to know how she felt about him in the beginning because she was just kind of thrown into crazy situations. The boy doesn't understand normal social interaction very well, he's just innocently interested in her and wants to get to know her. BUT he doesn't realize how much trouble it causes (due to his popularity and high status in society). He is so wholesome though! You can see the girl gradually come to love him because of his honesty and genuine desire to be with her, despite the fact that they are from different backgrounds. She notices that he does everything in his power to remove any obstacles between them, and finds herself wanting to try just as hard.
They are seriously adorable together because of how opposite they are, and they both change each other for the better. They weren't static characters and they learned from their experiences, which is what I like. Many shoujo mangas don't do this.
ENJOYMENT (9/10): It was never boring and I read it all within a few hours (at least what I could find, which was like 45 chapters.) It was a fun read and I enjoyed the romance aspect a lot. I seriously did tear up at the sweet and genuine things the prince would say and do for the girl. It's something anyone would want to hear from the person they love! (And you could tell she was moved by it too)
OVERALL (7/10): So it isn't the most original shoujo manga ever, but the characters make up for it for sure! I recommend it to any shoujo manga lover looking for a good read! The characters are too cute~
Sadly, I can't find any more chapters past chapter 45 as of 2021. I'm not sure if it is still ongoing or just not scanned and translated yet. Amazon only has it up to volume 8. Fingers crossed, that the rest of it will be available. At least it had a nice stopping point which tied together well despite it having a small cliffhanger at the end, indicating that there's more.

"I started watching this really good anime; it's about terrorists." my cousin told me the one day. I was a bit startled by her statement and didn't expect that I'd like 'Zankyou no Terror' this much!
---------------------------------------------------------------
STORY (8/10): Knowing that this anime would be about "terrorists," I was quite skeptical about what the plot would be like. I figured it would mainly be based on crazy action scenes and possibly under-developed characters but, boy, was I wrong! It turned out being completely different than I expected, and in a good way. The anime always had me guessing. Rather than pouring all of this overwhelming information
...
onto you, it reveals things little by little, making the audience think about it and come up with theories about the characters' goals. I was not bored at all and was immediately pulled in from the moment I started watching!
ART (9/10): 'Terror in Resonance' has some astounding art that really caught my eye and was a big factor in keeping my attention. The animation had a cinematic style to it and was very clean-cut, yet elegant. I love, love, LOVE the dramatic colors, lighting, and effects that were used, as well. It really helped set the mood for each scene and the show as a whole. From the delicately outlined animation, to the vivid city streets at night, the visuals never ceased to amaze me.
SOUND (10/10): When my cousin showed me a small clip from the anime before I started watching it, I was struck by the music right away! I don't know how many times I've told her how much I love the music from this anime. The music is by Yoko Kanno, one of my favorite composers who also did the music in 'Wolf's Rain', 'Cowboy Bebop', and more. The soundtrack includes the collaboration from musicians from all over the world, which shows that a lot of work was put into it. All of the different vocals are soft and calm, to match with the instrumentals. The opening is one of my favorites mostly because of the music. Aside from the soundtrack, the voice acting was spectacular. Each of the characters' voices were very mellow and pleasing to the ear. The emotion in their voices were very believable!
CHARACTER (9/10): This is one of the things I was worried about before watching this show. I was afraid that the characters would be underdeveloped and that it would be mostly focused on the action, but each episode seemed to develop the characters very well and made me really care about them. Before starting each episode I was excited to know more about them and see what would happen to them. The fact that they are "terrorists" (without the killing?) made me wonder if I would be on their side, but the way that they were portrayed made me want to know more about them and hope for a happy ending for them. Anyway, the characters are realistic, understandable, and play a big part in the uniqueness of the anime. Most people wouldn't think to view it from their side of the story.
ENJOYMENT (9/10): Because it was so entertaining, creative, and very well put together, I give the enjoyment a 9/10. Some parts were a little confusing before it revealed things, but it was never too much to handle. When a new episode would come out, my cousin and I would be really excited, but also scared, because we didn't know what would happen to the characters. It's an emotional roller coaster, but an enjoyable one!
OVERALL (10/10): 'Zankyou no Terror' is very different from most animes in which it focuses on a point-of-view that most would not think to see. I like it when you can see from a non-cliche perspective that questions views of society. The anime definitely exceeded my expectations and is probably one of the best that I've seen in a while. I enjoyed every minute of it and I loved the characters. It was artistically done by very talented people and a talented director. To me, this anime was a masterpiece. If you like a unique way of story-telling and a mind-capturing plot, then this is a must-see. However, if you are sensitive about topics like terrorism, you might not want to watch this. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants something new.

It's been years since I first reviewed this, so I want to change my review a bit! When I first watched it, I didn't quite understand the context and the culture surrounding it. However, I always find myself returning to this anime as I am personally attached to it for many reasons. It is truly a hidden gem.
---------------------------------------------
STORY 8/10: It starts off at the Kumano Shrine in the Kii Mountains where Izumiko Suzuhara lives. She lacks self-confidence and does not feel like a normal girl. Any technology she touches stops working. (Spoiler I guess?) -> It is soon learned that she is the next
...
vessel for the Himegami, a powerful goddess which causes many struggles for her. This is why Miyuki Sagara is sent to protect her from people who want her powers.
(Non-spoiler) So it's a nice concept based off of a book series, which I have not read. Everything seemed to flow smoothly until around episode 4. Things start to get confusing and many things are unexplained (or rush through explanations). I think they were trying to fit several volumes of the book into this short anime, not sure that it would succeed for another season. So some of the conflict was not very clear the first time I watched it and I didn't feel like there was much danger when it came to the threats at school. Other than this, it is a great coming of age story about a girl wanting to grow up normally but must bare the burden of the Himegami. It's very centered around Shintoism and Buddhism, which is very interesting.
ART 10/10: I was quite impressed with the artwork in the anime, especially the setting. The backgrounds/scenery were gorgeous and set a perfect mood for a Japanese culture-based anime. My favorite background art would probably be when they were in the Kii Mountains, surrounded by nature, or the spirit dimension/plane. The style of the characters were also well done! It had soft, neutral colors and lighting. The clothing design also really fit into nature-centric feel of the anime. I especially love Izumiko and Miyuki's designs. The cover art for the anime is gorgeous.
SOUND 10/10: First, the music is wonderful. It is one of my TOP soundtracks PERIOD. It was very masterfully done with so much emotion and set the mood perfectly in each scene. This is also one of the things that kept my interest because of how dramatic it sounded. I suggest anyone who likes instrumental music to look up this soundtrack and just listen to it on a pretty day. The opening song was also good, but I prefer the closing song the most. It's a very cute song (I memorized the lyrics, I love it that much). Aside from the music, I love the voice acting in this anime (Japanese). Izumiko's voice is so gentle and soft, yet has a hint of maturity and strength.
CHARACTER 9/10: The two main characters are mostly the reason that I enjoyed this anime so much. I'm sorry to say that the other characters didn't mean as much to me. I did like the triplets, but it was more like icing on the cake. The triplets weren't that interesting or unique as far as personality in my opinion. Izumiko and Miyuki were great, though, with so much development from beginning to end. Izumiko starts off as very shy and lacks self-confidence, but she becomes a lot more confident and strong after going through her struggles. Miyuki starts off hating Izumiko and hating who he was, but in the end, he becomes protective of her. Their relationship is what I love most in the whole anime and it literally made me cry. I like both of their backgrounds which were probably the most carefully explained thing in this series.
ENJOYMENT 9/10: The first time I watched this anime, I had trouble following a lot of the information in the story. As I said, they sometimes either don't explain enough, or explain too much that it's too hard to keep up with. I recommend researching a bit about the World Heritage Sites, Shinto legends, etc. to understand some things. I have been to Japan since the first time I watched this and I have watched it 3 times, and I have to say, the last time was much more enjoyable because I understood much more. I especially enjoyed watching the interactions between Izumiko and Miyuki because it gradually changes each time.
OVERALL 10/10: I may be biased since this anime has a special place in my heart. Maybe it was just not written to it's full potential because they were unsure if they could make another season so it had to be condensed. I think that the art, music, cultural factors, and concept were very creative and different than I have seen in any other anime. I feel attached to it because of this and that the main characters influence me in my own writing and artwork very much. I recommend it to people who like romance, Japanese culture, and fantasy. People who are impatient with story progression or prefer more action would most-likely not find this anime amusing.
I plan to read the novels someday because I am a huge fan of the anime, and even bought the DVD.

Characters in any good story make mistakes and learn from them. That is a fair statement, in my opinion; however in "Bokura ga Ita" I felt like I was watching the characters make the same mistakes countless times. In the beginning (let's say about 5-6 episodes) the story seemed fine, but as the story went on, the characters kept arguing and fighting over the same things: distrust, past relationships, lack of ability to convey feelings correctly. I kept going to the next episode in hopes that they would finally learn from their mistakes, yet it never happened.
After each fight, they would make
...
up and the same thing would happen again. Neither one seemed to try harder to make it work. They just wouldn't get it into their heads what they needed to do. Both Yano and Nanami were making me frustrated throughout the whole anime. Yano wouldn't let go of the past and Nanami had major trust issues. In order for their relationship to go farther, they needed to fix these flaws and it was quite obvious.
Anyway, you get the point that they had problems. It was majorly disappointing to see their pitiful relationship. I just could not enjoy the story and I did not have feelings for either of the characters. Rather than enjoying the anime, it was as if I was being socked in the face over and over with the painful drama cycle. It would have just been easier and a lot less miserable if they broke up and never got back together if they're just going to contiue fighting. Nanami and Yano didn't seem to have true feelings for each other, because if they did, they would want each other's happiness. This was no romance anime, it was a war zone.
I would be lying if I said that I didn't like anything from it, though. It had nice music and the art wasn't too bad. There was some good comedy in there as well. But if I knew of all the craziness I was getting myself into before watching this, I wouldn't have touched it. It's probably a more realistic view of high school relationships, but I think I prefer ones that I would enjoy. If you like drawn-out drama and heartbreaking romances, then you may like it.

This anime is the perfect example of a masterpiece. It was short, yet sweet. To me, it shows what true love and friendship really is, and it is a very rare but pure thing. I like how the character is introduced, telling a story of her childhood and how she grew up. The bond between the two characters, Gin and Hotaru, became stronger throughout the movie and that is one of the most important things that makes a story or movie good. The dramatic buildup was impeccable, because once the climax is reached, it leaves the audience with a wave of emotion and sympathy
...
for the characters. In fact, I cried at the end and any anime, book, or movie that makes a person cry shows how well written it was. If it impacts a person that much, it means that it was a very good piece of work.
Aside from the story and characters, the art, animation, and music were equally beautiful. When watching, I felt like I was actually there because the background art was so well done. The scenery and sound effects were amazing. The music set the mood of each scene, especially at the climax. That piano melody was perfect.
I suggest this anime to anyone who loves stories with emotional impact, lovable characters, and a memorable story. If you don't like drama, don't watch it. The bittersweet end makes it dwell in the mind for a while.

After watching a few episodes, I came to the conclusion that this anime is extremely corny. Yes, there are many corny anime shows, but this is one of the corniest I have come across.
----------------------------------------------------
STORY (3/10): The struggles of the group were kind of silly and melodramatic. It would have been better if each of the members had very different backgrounds and were not all that popular. The struggle would be them working together to become different and reach their dreams in music as a group with Nanami to influence them; Trying to be original yet popular in the process. They should have each
...
used their own personal talents and abilities to contribute to the group, but they all acted the same.
ART (7/10): It was good. Not anything amazing or particularly cinematic about it, but it was very colorful and the characters themselves didn't look bad. I didn't care for some of their hairstyles, but that's my personal preference.
SOUND (3/10): Usually in every anime, I like the music, but with this one, I didn't find any of the music that good. . . and the show is supposed to be about music. Why don't I like it? Well, to me it sounds like a generic J pop group with similar songs. It needed more originality. That could have been the reason why they become popular because their music is different from everyone else. The music should of had some sort of twist, maybe to convey the hardships of Starish as a group.
CHARACTER (4/10): I would most definitely like it more if the characters had more distinct personalities and problems. Sure, each of them were a little different, but I couldn't find myself being emotionally attached to any of them, and that includes the heroine.
I felt like everyone revolved around the heroine and Starish, like the principal, for instance. He followed them everywhere and did all kinds of things for them and I couldn't help but wonder, 'Doesn't he have an entire music school to run?' Also, the heroine really wasn't very interesting or relatable when it comes to her dreams and struggles.
I'd say the most developed character in this anime was Ichinose because he changed throughout the season.
ENJOYMENT (3/10): I was honestly suffering through this anime, trying to force myself to finish it. For some reason, I watched both seasons just to see if it would get any better. It did NOT need another season, I'll tell you that. It was more annoying than enjoyable. It's cliche in every way possible.
OVERALL 3/10: If you're looking for a cute romance, an original plot, deep characters, something moving or emotional... you can look past this one. I find High School Musical to be much more entertaining than this.

I am a huge fan of Corpse Party. I loved the game and the Corpse Party: Blood Covered manga, so I was really looking forward to this anime. Even if it was only going to be an OVA, I felt that was a great opportunity to capture the best moments of the game animated!
--------------------------------------------------------
STORY (4/10): When it came out, I watched it and the first episode was great! It was true to the game and the manga. But then it all went downhill around the middle of episode 2. The story became incredibly out of order, so many things were going on at
...
once, and it was just crazy. Now, I understand that the anime had to move at a faster pace due to the amount of time for each episode, however it could have been done much more efficiently. They didn't focus on the right things to make the story make sense.
What I love about Corpse Party the most is the characters, their relationships, and the overall plot. I feel that this anime just twisted it all and distorted the whole meaning of it. My take of the game was that it revolved around the idea of friendship (I mean, it's a game about a group of friends that are trapped in Heavenly Host Elementary and have to work together to get out). The anime did not portray it that way and focused more on the gore and shock factor than the aspects that I find to make Corpse Party unique.
ART (8/10): The animation was beautiful though, and they also did a very good job with the atmosphere and backgrounds. The gore/horror scenes were very well animated.
SOUND (9/10): The music was great (the opening song is amazing) and the fact that they used the original voice actors from the game was a plus for me. The sound was the highest point of this anime, I would say.
CHARACTER (6/10): *SPOILERS* (you can skip)
Since most of the characters died, including the ones that were not supposed to, originally, I wasn't happy. I was so upset when one of my favorite characters that was not meant to die in the true ending... died. I know it's Corpse Party, but the true ending was so interesting and one of the best parts! The decisions that the characters made who actually survived carried the story in the game, but those characters didn't last the anime, so the cool character moments/plot points were missing.
Major relationship and character developing scenes were cut out, such as the pool scene with Ayumi and Yoshiki, and the end where the characters realized that they were the only ones to remember their friends who died. Those were impactful scenes and should have been included rather than some others.
*END SPOILERS*
ENJOYMENT (6/10): As a fan, I enjoyed it in the beginning, but I am more interested in plot than I am in the gore. It may have been great for gore fans, but those who hold more importance in story will probably have a hard time enjoying this. The plot is just gone by episode 2.
OVERALL (4/10): So, overall, it was nowhere near as good as I was hoping, but it did have its positive points. However, those good points were not enough to make the destruction of the plot better in my opinion. I don't suggest watching it if you are a big fan of the original game and its story, but if you love horror and gore, and don't mind the character development much, then go for it!
