I watched some of The D. Gray anime in middle school and seeing that it got another anime adaption I decided to finally check out the manga and it was worth it. I ended up reading all the chapters that are currently published in one weekend.
I typically don’t get into that many shonen series’ as to me they’re too long and drag out the series to the point repetition and retcon character development.

I was entranced by the simple yet lovely premise D. Gray Man has set up in the beginning, while the pacing can be odd at times the characters are strong and ... are distinctive and I can relate to their emotions.

The characters aren’t just their archetypes they feel real, and one of the most important part of a story, to me are the characters.

The visuals get better and better with each chapter to the pivotal emotional moments or the stylistic change in art style during a comedic moment.

The story can be complicated and sad but also fun and interesting.

Bungou Stray Dogs at its core is a series about wanting to be a better person and finding a reason to live against all odds.

It has an easily digestible story and relatable characters that are fundamentally flawed. The art and sound is emotional and helps paint a scene of melancholy and nostalgia. The backgrounds and scenes feel full of life or a un named feeling that feels like coming home after being gone for a long time.

The music by Grandrodeo and Luck Live is not only emotionally provoking the vocals are provided by the Seiyuus of Chuuya and Atsushi respectively, it feels ... like having a bit of insight into how they voice their characters and how they see them.

Granrodeo’s music is rock and roll and loud very much like Chuuya while Luck Live is pop and has a low melancholy, music box feel to it much like Atsushi whom is a naturally sad person.

I will admit the initial premise is overdone, humanity is wiped out by a disease, random foe comes forward and protagonist feels the need to kill all of them because they hurt him etc

without going into deep spoiler territory, the story, while being complicated can feel overwhelming at times but this is far from a lighthearted series so that is to be expected.

While I find myself relating to both of the main characters (Yuichiro and Mickeala) I can’t help but feel detached due to how the writer just wants to progress the plot by letting Yuchiro talk his way out ... of everything by declaring someone is his “family/friend” and moving on.

The conflict in this way feels inessential because no matter anyone does the protagonist will forgive them and will continue to do things the same way with little to no consequences and or development.

So while the story is poor in some aspects the characters I still find myself fond of along with Yamato-San’s art work.

Overall = Six (fair)

It’s okay and the plot is decent, the characters need work but it’s enough for me to enjoy without dropping it completely.
It’s not anything new or ground breaking to me it’s just, ok.

To start off Sherlock, the original Sherlock Holmes stories are held true to my heart. It’s quite difficult to find an adaptation of Sherlock that stays true to the characters while also taking a unique approach, that’s where Yuukoku No Moriarty comes in.

Having a story from Moriarty’s point of view is deeply fascinating, I am fascinated both by this and the concept that accompanies it as the story addresses the fundamental problems with corruption within the upper class and the police enforcement.

For me this concept helps me draw away from my growing frustration of
“really another story in the Victorian Era?”
because the ... author is actually doing something /with/ the setting rather than just have it be that, a setting.

Despite the initial premise of the series it doesn’t get too formulaic, the characters have a deep motivation whether seen as “evil” or “good” the interpersonal relationships between the main cast fuels the story for me, their development away from their characters as we the audience knows them from Conan Doyle’s stories.

Yes, they’re different but they’re also familiar in a way thats inviting.

Along with that is the rivalry between Sherlock and Moriarty which is the most interesting part of the series, this take on the two shows them as flawed people, as humans. We see Sherlock outside his act as the “Master Detective” and Moriarty outside his “Master Manipulator” act.

It’s a refreshing iteration of beloved characters and I’m honestly in awe that this series isn’t more popular.

This anime was recommended to me by my brother, I had time to kill so I thought, why not?

I’m not a fan of the Battle Royale/Survival Game genre which has been on an uprise lately. High school settings in particular don’t do it any favors.

I admit i’m no match for the “Assassin falls in love with their target” trope but it just wasn’t executed well here.
The dorky pink haired anime protagonist is annoying and I just don’t find her interesting, more than half of the cast is more interesting than her. ...

I trudged through the episodes because the other classmates were infinitely more interesting than her! There’s nothing memorable about this anime other than it makes no sense story and character wise.

If anything I would have liked to see an anime focusing on the poor teacher’s life and his perspective because he seems way more interesting! Or even the main character’s former teacher ! anyone seems more interesting than the main cast.

English is not my first language so I apologize for any grammar mistakes.

I’ve personally never been a fan of sports anime, but Skate Infinity definitely changed that for me with it’s comedic characters, emotional story telling and overall fun vibe.

Avoiding any major spoilers or events that happen in the anime, I like Skate Infinity because it knows not to take itself too seriously. There are times for jokes and times for heavy emotional scenes, Skate does a good job of balancing these aspects while keeping the overall experience fun and interesting.

The characters are enjoyable and have interesting backstories that let you sympathize ... with them but not to the point of making it their entire character, at the forefront, Skate is both an anime built around interpersonal relationships and comedy.

It’s wild and hilarious, it’s sad and it’s dumb, it made me want to actually try out skateboarding although I have never tried sports out in my entire life.

The story is enjoyable and easy to follow. Its well rounded and well written. There are some moments where comedic moments fall flat in order to juggle the dark aspects of the plot vs the comedic element but overall it does a does a good job of maintaining this balance.

The characters are lovable and well developed they feel realistic and you can't help but want them to win no matter what situation they're in, you might even end up cheering for the bad guy, because the bad guys are written well just so they're lovable enough but you still want them to lose as ... well.
