Both of them are dark magical girl animes where pure and innocent girls fight to defeat powerful enemies that can cause destruction in the world. The fighting takes place in an alternate dimension which can have affects on the real world if things go awry.

Both animes are about people teaming up to fight a limited number overwhelmingly powerful enemies that require a lot of planning, strategy, effort, and risk to take down. Enemies tend to appear one at a time and each have their own "gimmick" that makes them sound almost impossible to kill, such as only being able to kill 3 enemies if you strike them all at the same time so they can't regenerate, or an enemy that's made of air and is impervious to most attacks.

In both of these animes we see relatively innocent lolis working in teams as part of a large organization to take down monsters such as Daemonia or Dragons. I won't spoil much of what happens in Genei, but it follows a similar theme to each girl having a unique match. Unlike Fafnir, Genei seems to be less focused on having overwhelmingly powerful enemies and instead focuses more on darkness and the people manipulating Daemonia and what mind games they use. Unlike Genei, Fafnir has more of a harem vibe because it features a leading male character. Genei has no male protagonist.

Gakkougurashi!

Before I start, I'll say that you should watch Gakkou Gurashi ***without any prior knowledge***. Don't even click the "read more" button below on this recommendation. (There aren't really any spoilers, but yeah). The simple explanation about both animes is that they're both very happy (yet not entirely) shows with cutesy loli animation, lots of feels, and a bit (or a lot) of twist. If you like animes that have lots of feels, mix in very happy moments, and mix in very traumatic moments, both are good watches. ______________________________________ Kotoura-san focuses mainly on romance and Haruka Kotoura's traumatic past. With love and drama between her and the relationships she has with various people, almost every episode brings me tears of either joy or sadness. If Satori Komeiji is your favorite Touhou character, this is 100% a must watch. ______________________________________ Gakkou Gurashi focuses on the every day school life of a group of students in the School Living Club, with plenty of thrill and feels as well. Even if you hate moeblob, Gakkou Gurashi is a little bit different from that. The first episode will drag on for a long time for you, but at the end they reveal what it's actually about.

1. Enemies from unknown origin take over the seas. 2. Humans fight back. KanColle: More lighthearted + sorta dull aside from some cute slice of life. Fine for spending free time on if you have nothing else to do. Treat like any slice of life. Ars Nova: Exciting, intelligent, better fights, better usage of CG animation, better character development, better "powers", etc. Main downside is less yuri. I don't really care much about the ship girls thing, but this anime was a real "page-turner" when it aired. KanColle was more like "oh the next ep is out".

In both anime, people fight against gigantic abstract enemies that share the common characteristic of having unique abilities and a final "core" to destroy. In Yuuki Yuuna, they're Vertexes, and in Devil Survivor, they're Septentriones. There are ~9 Septentriones and 12 Vertexes total trying to bring destruction upon the world that must all be defeated.

Both anime have these 'space quakes' in which beings from another dimension seem to appear from. The cities where these quakes have adapted to them happening and people otherwise live their same old lives since before they started happening, though people do have to evacuate every time they happen. Oh, and some really weird people tend to come from that other dimension.

Terra Formars
add

Both anime take place in a future where humans are fighting highly evolved alien enemies. The fight is to determine the more dominant species and the loser is just vermin. Suisei's future is far after humans had abandoned earth (thousands and colonized far out into the universe. Their ships shoot lasers, warp through space, and have sentient AI. However, the main story of this takes place in a lost colony and is relatively lighthearted as our space fleet main learns to communicate with a lost culture, until he finds and has to fight the alien species again... and learn their true origin. Terra Formar's future is 500 years later where mars is starting to support life and humans traveling to mars is still a big deal. This anime is gorey and much more combat/survival oriented. Though Suisei does have a good bit of fighting and struggle, the humans in Terra Formars are constantly in danger of dying.

I'm not suggesting them because they have similar story lines or tropes. Rather, both of these anime feature very unique art styles / animation / coloring. From Hamatora's comic-book rainbowy flashes whenever people use abilities, to Black Rock Shooter's colorful paint bleeding dream world.

Both anime constantly mention something about "The secret to this world" And indeed seem to have an interesting secret... Flag is more haremy and Little Busters is more of friendship with only one real romance.

Both anime feature highly emotional girls, fantasy girls that fight for the sake of those girls, and a story with a creepy and dark psychological undertone. Many of the girls are very lighthearted, yet have very traumatizing situations thrown at them. Some girls are brought to emotional/mental insanity or worse. Some girls are extremely malicious or controlling. Both of the main characters are fairly stoic, hate scary things, but aren't affected by them much. Each of the girls in both anime have a color that represents them and that means something about them. Fights between alter-ego/card girls within both anime have heavy psychological effects on the girls in real life, whether it makes people happier and new friends come together, or if it mentally breaks a girl. Black Rock Shooter definitely seems to have more effort put in to a unique and interesting artstyle, however. Black Rock Shooter has a very colorful fantasy world and fighting, whereas WIXOSS usually only shows a meek, dark, and simplistic battle field and even more simplistic battles.

Both anime feature a "Highly intelligent, plans everything that's happening, everything everyone does is part of his plan and benefits him" type of character. In Log Horizon, it's the main character: Shiroe In Blood Lad, he's only a support character: Braz D. Blood Lastly, you could say Braz is basically a vampire version of Shiroe. The way they are drawn is extremely similar. Same glasses, nearly the same hair, similar height, etc.

Both anime feature monsters, magic, and a halloween themed world. Blue Exorcist's main character, Rin Okumura, is a demon who was raised as a human and chooses to get stronger to protect humans. In Blue Exorcist's world, the demon world and human world are in constant conflict as humans try to protect themselves from malevolent demons. Blood Lad's main character, Staz C. Blood, is a vampire who is the leader of a gang taking up a territory the size of a large city. He meets a human girl for the first time but lacks the desire to simply eat her, and ends up wanting to protect her. She immediately dies and becomes a demon ghost, so he decides to do whatever it takes to revive her as a normal human. Both main characters have extraordinary power that makes them potentially more powerful than most others within their own universe. Both characters tend to act like they can do whatever they want, or at least want to act that way. Neither character likes to think too hard about what their doing, but in the case of Blood Lad, Staz seems to easily and immediately pick logical choices while Rin is a bit more of a "think later" type of character.

Both anime feature battles that take place in an "alternate reality" that only a select few know about. People are required to partake and win battles for prizes and to "stay in the game". In C, if you lose and can no longer stay in the game, it is likely that you will die or something so bad will happen that you'll want to commit suicide. You don't lose your memories related to what happened, which in turn makes it all the more traumatic for losers. In Selector, you lose your memories related to the game. In addition to that, the wish of the selector becomes tainted into usually the opposite of what they want, which is similarly traumatic and near suicide-inducing as what happens to people who lose in C. Within both anime, features a relationship between a "player" and a "familiar" that the player owns/plays with/talks to. It just so happens that both anime feature tiny girls that appear to move in cards.

Within both anime, feature the main character being thrown into battle before knowing what's going on, and people who try to abuse that early on in the story. Both anime involve humans with superhuman abilities who pair up together and an encased world that is cut-off from anywhere else. Darker than Black has contractors and dolls while Black Bullet has initiators and promoters. There's also neat fight scenes between superhuman characters in both.

Both anime feature the following: A modern world in which humanity is near extinction and trying to survive. Genetically superior/modified humans (mostly girls) that are resilient to the source of extinction and fighting to save humanity. Differences: Black Bullet's affliction is a virus that mutates people into giant monsters, and Coppelion is simply the aftermath of a giant nuclear explosion and people surviving areas with nuclear waste. I am more so recommending Black Bullet to people who watched Coppelion, as Coppelion seems much less interesting to me. Black Bullet seems to be more action packed and has a bit of romance and a loving loli. Coppelion is more of rescue operations being performed by girls who can survive breathing toxic air within nearly abandoned ruins of urban areas, though it does have some gunfight related conflicts between humans. Both also do have some conflicts between superhumans. I suppose I would say Coppelion is more emotional and in a more devastated seeming environment. As a side note, I would describe Black Bullet as "Attack on Coppelion".
