The pacing of this anime is not good. I think this whole series could have been completed in 16 episodes MAX. Most of the action happens in the first half of the series and it is drawn out with people standing around doing nothing and repeating dialogue they already communicated in 4 different ways which really puts a damper on the intensity of tense moments. The second half has less action but it has a lot of philosophical dialogue that does not lead to much more than perhaps trying to get the watcher of the anime to think about some of those topics. This philosophical ... dialogue does not do much to progress the story besides reinforce themes.
Overall, the series was sad, drawn out, and kind of boring yet disappointing. If the pacing was fixed, this could have been one of my favorites.

I dropped this anime 12 episodes in. I think this series is okay, but what made it bad for me was the logic. There are too many times when characters have terrible logic and the plot contrivances took away all suspension of disbelief and made this series unwatchable. The other issue I had with this show was the pacing. It can be painfully slow.
What I liked about it was the humor and the premise. The premise was set up well like Erased or Steins Gate. I love a scyfy power or technology that allows time travel and an MC doing it and making emotional ... and physical sacrifices to save a loved one. That is a powerful character motivation to make for a convincing plot. This premise allows for character development, redemption, and seeing how characters react when they are emotionally and mentally pushed to the limit. It is just that the execution of this premise in Tokyo Revengers was terrible compared to the other two series I mentioned.

As a competitor in wrestling and BJJ, this story really connected with me. The excitement and anxiety of preparing for a competition and the pressures of not letting your team down as well as suffering and overcoming hardships with a team are conveyed very well in this series. It has similar themes to Eye Shield 21, so if you liked that, you may like this. The matches always excited me and I love the character interactions. It is also realistic. It has typical shonen cliches, such as hardworking and the power of friendship will help you overcome all odds, but this is challenged as the ... opponents also have those same shonen powers so it is believable for the main cast might to lose at any given moment. This series is inspiring and heart warming. If you are a fan of grappling or Eye Shield 21, you will probably enjoy this.
