It’s a fun, easy read. It is very shounen. It’s good for clearing your brain from daily stress. It is a SOLID 7. And we NEED 7s like this! It is like the trash TV, it’s fun to watch, but too much will make your brain melt.
I recommend if you want to clear your brain and relax. I also mostly recommend this to 14-19.
I don’t recommend if you're looking for deep and interesting story with strongly written, well rounded characters and world building.
Review:
Art: Great stuff. 10/10. Amazing poses, line work and panelling.
Design: Good stuff: 8/10. Original and consistent character design. Negligible world design.
Characters:
...
Poor stuff: 3/10 Most of them are on dimensional except for one or two, that are a bit more than 1 dimension. Not unique or interesting.
Story: Decent stuff: 6/10 Superficial, fun and simple. it’s about fighting, shock value and plot twists. Nothing about any deep and complex characteristics of human values, nothing about moral dilemmas or grey areas. Doesn’t go deep into feelings and emotions.
Theme: It changes drastically around chapter 80. Loses the adventure theme, becomes too sensationalistic, full on action. Like a typical 90s hollywood action movie.
Pros: art, character design, fighting, action
Cons: superficial, lazy writing, over reliance on plot twists and shock value, one-dimensional characters.
Rant:
1. Bullcrappery. Around ch75 a lot of things change, tHe PlOt TwIsTs. It becomes too plot twisty. By ch 90, you have no clue what’s going on. Too much mystery, too much unanswered questions. Probably they are explained later. But this made me just loose interest. Maybe I’ll comeback to it later.
2. Superficial characters. Even Denji is very simply written. All the women characters are one-dimensional, sexualised. It becomes bleh really fast. Author does know his audience well. In addition, characters drop like flies. I can’t even call some characters - characters. They are more like just plot points.
3. Sensationalism and shock value. Ah yes, gore, bla bla bla. After 10 chapters it doesn’t even feel like gore. It is used so much that it just becomes dull. It becomes just a cool hack and slash story.
4. Too many plot twists. There’s a plot twist on every chapter more or less. Most of the interests comes from that. Without the plot twists, this story wouldn’t be. At a point you just start saying to yourself in full saracstic tone: “omg… no way… who would have thought… I didnt see this coming at all… oh wow… Anyway”
Lesson for story making:
The writing and worldbuilding doesnt have to be well made to be popular. Bar minimum is just enough. Worldbuilding, interesting, well written stories and characters are not the only elements for making a successful story. Sexualistation, gore, and sensationalism sell!

TL;DR
After 1/3 of the story, it became less of a mystery, I lost the curiosity. And I felt it was starting to mold into political/factional thing, which I have no interest in. No characters that were developed to be interesting.
(small spoiler ahead)
Value:
Great Art.
Great Shock Value.
Decent story. Kinda lost a bit interest when more was revealed about how they got to the room and if they died or didn't.
Bellow average character writing. After 3 months, I don't remember anything about the main character.
Then the 'vampires' threw me off. After they were introduced, I got bored and kinda just forgot to read this manga.
...
Lesson for story making:
We are very curious creatures, and mystery will compel us to explore and follow the story.
Once mystery is dispelled, what keeps the reader in?
I bet - The characters! We have no interest in other people that much, but we like hanging out with our friends and other close people. Same for any story. If you have a character that we like to 'hang around with', we gonna stay!
1. Hook with the mystery
2. Reel with the characters

Best Written story of all time for Action/Adventure
I consumed this story in various forms: anime, manga, YouTube videos, podcasts.
Features, why it's worth your time:
- Perfectly written characters (More details below)
- character depth and complexity
- Balance of light and dark themes
- Perfect speed and amount of world being revealed and introduced
- Relatability (More details below)
...
Great features, but not the reasons One Piece shines bright:
- Great Japanese voice actors
- Great soundtrack. It ages well
- Great world building - still is original
- Good humor
- Decent action and fight scenes (From ep 890 it gets amazing)
This anime is loses quality because:
- cheap animation (gets good starting ep. 890).
- poorest pacing of all time (Do not check the bottom of the review, if you're interested in version of One Piece with better pacing)
More in detail:
Characters
The whole set of characters are carefully planned and written to complement each other traits and flaws. Not only the main characters, the supporting ones, the villains and the antagonists, and the whole world itself. Everything is written so, that it brings the best moments for all the characters and specially for the main character - Monkey D. Luffy. All the victories, struggles, loses, dramas, action and humour are placed perfectly. Creating most enjoyable journey physically and story-wise, but most importantly journey that only happens within the characters. Speaking of growth, you will witness that for all the characters over 1000 episodes. I did not know it was possible to create such an epic-length growth. I'm just used to seeing movie length character growth or 50-100 episode character change. This is truly a spectacle.
Relatability
Whatever you're going through, you will find a place within the crew. (didn't mean to rhyme). The vast difference in characters casts a large net. It reaches these flaws: recklessness, naivety, greed, pride, anger issues, loneliness, darkness of depression, anxiety, fear of: loss, rejection, change, failure, uncertainty, lack of conviction, overprotectiveness and lack of self-wroth or self preservation, fear for loss of freedom, self-doubt (I'll stop, the list is never-ending).
It brings you into the world to experience these crimes against humanity: Discrimination and different effects on the victims: either against individuals people or groups, slavery, human-trafficking, both themes including children, supremacist ideologies, genocide, corruption.
If you're someone who values freedom, who strive for their dreams and goals, who value friends and family - you will feel right at home.
TOP TIP:
I DO NOT recommend googling One Pace, please don't do it! There is no need for group of people, who altruistically edit One Piece for better Pacing so it would fit the manga better or make it more enjoyable. The Anime itself has no problem with pacing. In fact One Piece anime is better than manga. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT google One Pace. They are not worth of our love and gratitude, and I definitely do not thank them from the bottom of my heart, and I don't think they are absolute legends.

I have to bow my head to animators and draftsmen once again. Brilliant fight scenes, great choreography, great direction, great pacing.
Art, the concept, the general atmosphere is very well done.
I am happy finally with this anime, it finally became dark, the deaths did feel heavy, the drama was tasteful, and most importantly, the main characters became real.
Finally the trio is no more obnoxious and finally the main character feels and acts like a main character!
Spoilers:
I really liked the loud girl character, the one from Marley, idk if she’s going to be important to the plot, but she acts as a constant
...
reminder of the weight of Massacre that occurs in this season and the main theme of this anime - death! Adding this character to the story was actually a good shout
Finally the obnoxious comic relief is gone! Sasha’s death, i think, is like symbolism that tv show is taken to the next stage! Only darkness from here!
Rest in piece superficial character, you will not be missed.
I appreciate the approach to all the moral/ political dilemmas this piece brings. Not taking any sides, no rights or wrongs, just purely focusing on emotion and how it makes the people feel, how the emotions is brought down the line to the next generations. And embodiment of that is Eren, not taking any side but his own, it’s almost like his rising above all, dilemmas and problems, deaths and life, almost feels like the writer has some narcissistic tendencies.
I surely think for the next season, Eren will be RIPPED down from his high horse and this anime will end even in a darker and a tragic tone!
It leaves me wondering, how tf did they managed to pull the characters together? What exactly happen, that the thing that made first 4 seasons forgettable is gone in this one. I do now have hopes for the finale

Another note for my future self
Second season seemed more settled down and inline with itself compared to season 1.
OBVIOUSLY, the production and post-production departments did an amazing job. Absolutely love the animation. The use of 3D or reuse of shots is very understandable and well done. The strength and the backbone of this anime are the animators and the draftsmen.
This time I don’t feel like ranting that much about the anime
Unfortunately, one thing is for sure - this anime is forgettable.
Logically, the memories are based on emotions. The stronger the emotion, the more memorable the moment is.
In filmmaking, to create a
...
memory, a connection, relation, to touch one’s heart/ soul/ believes/ the essence of one’s existing you use characters. Fictional people that feel real more than anyone else in real life, they become the embodiment of our dreams and values.
This anime has none of that. None.
Without characters, plot is just like reading a chapter in a history book about certain period.
It is fun to watch, for plot - very captivating, for animation - THRILLING, but all this hard work comes to waste, as you don’t remember anything of it.
This anime like a beautiful, magnificent vessel, that is hollow and empty inside.
The writers binned it. no soul, no love, no passion from their side.

I dont do reviews, doubt anyone gonna read this, so I’m just gonna leave this for future self as a note.
Obvious:
Art, Design, Concept, Animation, Editing, Directing, Sfx, music are all 9 or 10 depending on the episode.
Selling point:
Action and concept idea is it, overall plot is very intriguing and interesting even when I watched it the second time.
BAD PART:
The part that made me cringe, get bored and even skip/ forward some parts.
...
The written characters and the dialog. At points when the dialog and monologues are about the main plot it’s all golden good.
when the Dialog is about charcters it gets dull very fast. Most of the characters are superficial, do not feel real. A lot of the stuff that happens to characters and how they react is mostly repetitive, for example:
RANT ALERT
“I’m done, this is it, im dead/ humanity’s end/ etc”
30seconds later
“Never don’t give up!”
Dies or dies later
And who was that character? No clue, some side- character/ one liner/ plot tool/ something unimportant…
The main characters:
They have this one trait and they will always act upon it, like a random npc in video game (they have their main line, that they always repeat)
I get it, EREN, you said that killing titans is your dream only 5867 times in these 5 episodes. Funny, after 25 episodes, it still doesn’t feel like it’s his dream/ goal. Probably because they had hard time showing it/ developing on it (because they had to spend all that time on trying to inTroduce all these side characters, and make us relate/ feel for them), so they had to use mostly un-creative words and sentences.
Strength: Determination
Weakness: no-one special OH WAIT
Misaka (i think thats the name), actually felt more human than the rest of the crew, probably because she didn’t run around shouting her goal list every 5 minutes, has no weakness tho imo. Eren did not felt like one.
Armin had more inner dialog “I got to be stronk” moments than eren. And all of them sounded the same. And most importantly- FORCED, not by plot, but by the writters.
That’s how I felt really, like the writters are showing the character ‘development’ down my throat and screaming, that they are showing character DEVELOPMENT down my throat.
A lot of cliche/ anime power moments that stands out like a sore thumb, not subtle at all. NOTHING IS SUBTLE in this anime, considering writing characters.
idk if its the manga author or the tv writers, but it is L A Z Y writing.
And all these factory made side characters with their own ‘feel for me, before I die’ Anyone remembers Marco? I do, because it was shoved down my throat. I never cared for him tho. The blond sideburns guy - nope. Even Eren’s mother.
I could rant forever, Too much throat shoving for me.
END of rant, gonna go shove something down my throat
