I've played Azur Lane (the best waifu collecting game) for over a year and I have to say, the anime is just straight disappointment.
I'm going to keep this short and explain as to why I think this anime is very disappointing and how it could have been better.
Story 2: The story is just bad. Even in the game it's really bad because this game's main objective is to collect ships (waifus) rather than focusing on rich story line. I gave it a 2 because it DOES have a story, it's just that the story is not enjoyable (for me at least).
Art 4: The
...
art itself is actually ok, but the animation is pretty awful.
Sound 3: There aren't any flaws with sound, they're pretty much in sync but there aren't any good music or soundtracks.
Character 9: This one was amazing. A lot of the characters had the same VAs from the game, they were just like how I imagined them to be. Except for Enterprise, she's kind of cringe. Not her VA, but the way Enterprise acts in the anime is not exactly how I imagined her to be. But it was still awesome to see her and other characters like Unicorn, Laffey, Belfast talking and moving in the anime instead of just seeing them in the game. As a player of the game, I was very satisfied. Brilliant. (Unicorn's unicorn being alive and running around was an excellent touch, and that one scene with Unicorn flying around on top of her unicorn too)
Enjoyment 3: Even though the characters were fantastic, I just cannot ignore the flaws behind this anime. Just couldn't enjoy it.
Overall 4: If you haven't played the game this anime is just garbage, just skip it. If you have played the game this will go two ways. Either you love it or you're just disappointed. People who love it are the people who read the dialogues provided in the game and have enjoyed the story. People who are disappointed are ones like me, who just doesn't care or doesn't like the story and just plays the game for the sole purpose of collecting waifus.
In conclusion, I think this anime could have been better if it focused on comedy and slice of life aspects rather than focusing on action scenes and its story. I also don't think the studio had enough budget to make decent action scenes in the first place, I mean the animation is just so awful. Azur Lane's story is terrible, but many of the characters are just so dynamic and full of life. Could have been made into a pretty good slice of life/comedy anime but lost its chance, sigh.
