Time and time again you will at some point hear someone say that Claymore is "shonen Berserk" and I am here to tell you that such a statement is true. Some of the influence is extremely obvious with a few of the monster designs and plot point or two but most of the overlap is the genre and setting. Dark fantasy in a medieval world and plenty of violence.

Majo Taisen: 32-nin no Isai no Majo wa Koroshiau
|
If someone told me that Majo Taisen was a spinoff of Record of Ragnarok, I would definately believe them. The series basically goes out of its way to demonstrate how much RoR inspires it. Both are even serialized in the same magazine. Tournament of historical figues fighting to the death and strong backstories that tie into the philosophical theme of a fight. Also plenty of great character designs and powers that draw from the real life history of a character. While RoR is comprised of male figures from myths and history, Majo Taisen has a female cast. What makes Majo Taisen stand out from being a clone is that it has a clear protagonist and a visible overarching plot which contributes to a thematic narrative on greed, desire, and purpose.

Yuki Tabata said that Bleach had a huge influence on him. Of all the shounen manga that Black Clover borrows from, Bleach is definitely the most prominent. On a side note: I've never understood the "Naruto ripoff" claims that BC gets. Any similarities between them are superficial tropes applied across the shounen demographic. The biggest influences are very obvious and BC doesn't try to hide them; Bleach, Berserk, and Yu Yu Hakusho.

I'd rather not spoil either series but I will say that both deliver a masterpiece finale centered around a global threat. These are the kind of anime that leave you speechless when you finish them. Plenty of philosophical themes too.

Dandadan

Aliens, absurd humor, high school drama, ESPs, and realistic backrounds oh my! Take Gantz and throw it into a blender with the Ghost Stories English Dub and you get Dandadan. To any Gantz fan reading this I cannot recommend Dandadan enough as it is filled to the brim with emotionally powerful moments for the characters but spliced in between the most wacky and amazing fights you can ask for. To any Dandadan fans reading this I beg of you to try out Gantz as it strips away many of the shonen elements found in Dandadan and replaces them with a much more seinen approach.

If you have read and enjoyed one of these then I'm sure you will love the other. Both are about a coming of age story with a young girl and an android companion set in a post apocalyptic world. You can read either one for free because they are jump+ titles so you have no excuse not to read them. The two have a rushed ending in common as well, so there's that.

Gantz and Kaiju #8 share some similarities with their general premise: -Monster tech in the form of power suits and weapons = Alien tech in the form of power suits and weapons. -Overwhelmingly powerful monsters that are large-scale threats = Overwhelmingly powerful aliens that are large-scale threats. -MC has a childhood friend who he wants to be like and stand alongside = MC has a childhood friend who he eventually wants to be like and stand alongside. -MC can't risk revealing his secret power = MC can't risk revealing his secret alien hunting sprees.
