7/10 ~ Fun Adventure
This show took on a bit cramming Walmart brand Aaron jaeger into the world of Higurashi, give him the powers of Subaru Natsuki and plot elements of Steins;Gate, and honestly pretty similar vibes to Shiki. Weirdly this show from about ep2 through episode 14 I was hooked, The story kinda sped up way to fast, adding bullshit reasoning to justify its plot to move forward, and then it just kinda ended. And the Ending... Disgusting, made me feel like I wasted my time, really you can just not watch the last episode and it probably better for it. I do enjoy stories
...
that deal with time, but they have to be really good. Kinda like Something like Sushi, you don't just want any sushi, you want it to be a certain quality or its not worth it and could make you sick. The way time was used in this felt top notch on some parts of the story, and for others like a coinvent excuse to move the plot forward. Its also pretty strange that on one hand I felt like the middle section was pretty bad and I wanted to stop watching, but on the other hand rushed and It needed another 10-20 episodes to really flesh out alot of the points of the plot. Could simply just be the story boarding or directing. Bit hard to tell.
Pros:
- Minus a few CGI stand outs the show is really well animated, surprisingly so.
- First half of the show is a pretty good mystery thriller, the real thing you are trying to figure out is what is going on lol
--the mystery murder parts were far superior to the battle Shonen it became, how very YYH of them lmfao
- the whole magic system is all pretty interesting
- how writer lady uses her phone to talk to the other character is really interesting
Cons:
- Over sexualization of women, atleast the first ep is plagued with it so you know what you are getting into
- Like Re:zero it has too much excessive gore that feels pretty unnecessary
- some of the English VA are really bad and they stand out too much
- too many plot elements that they assume you get with the cast with little to no explanation that are easy to miss and are frankly confusing
- Stupid teens "liking" one another, yawn
- Man I normally dont get confused with who is who in anime, but towards the end it was mad confusing who they were talking about in regards to some charecters
- 2nd half felt really rushed
- too many because we say so rules to the power/magic system were added in the 2nd half...
- the villains intentions actually made no sense, probably would have been better to just say they were crazy
- never felt that the MC was in any real trouble because they kept adding convenient plot devices to get him through
--how many times he could die kept changing
- MC was boring, but his love interest and the secondary MC was just the best character.
This show is the type of show if you turn off your brain its a pretty fun ride, and I know most people like a good happy ending and wont have the same problem I had with it, so its easy to recommend. However due to the over sexualization of women, excessive gore and Japanese culture tropes its not something I can recommend to non-anime watchers. Anyone who enjoys Higuashi, Re:Zero or Shiki will probably enjoy this one. Over all I would say this show was just good, but far from the 8.5/10 it has on MAL

5.25/10 ~ More of the same Disappointment
If you made it through Season 1+2 then you know what to expect at this point, Poorly Animated fights, Bland Characters, meaningless injuries/deaths, over complicated plot that you could honestly cut out 1/2 of and it would make just as much sense. I and I know many share this opinion; that this show is judged so harshly because it does not stand up to the Manhwa at all, and that takes something that could possibly be rated at a 6-7 and it get squished down to a 4-6 by most people. However anyone who made it to the end
...
of this 2.5 season will probably stick it out to the end, whether we actually like it or that we are just masochistic and need to finish everything.
For myself personally this show weirdly checks a box because of my work where I sit at the computer for endless hours and I can split my attention ever so much to watch mid anime, the anime tho cannot be overly complicated (unless what you miss does not matter) and cannot have too much emphasis on the visual as either of these points will distract me from my work. So this show being fairly long, and pretty mediocre is weirdly what I am looking for. That being said its quite bad and I would not recommend anyone watch this lmfao.

5.25/10 ~
If you made it through Season 1 then you should know what you are in for at this point. Tower of God is one of the most beloved Manhwas out there and thus was one of the most hyped Anime in the last 10 years. And Man did it crash for Season 1. When I heard that it was changing hands I went ahead and watched a recap of season 1 and binged this as I do with most things. Everything is about the same or ever so slightly better then S1 in my opinion but honestly its not enough of an upgrade
...
that sitting through the entire first season is worth getting here. So I cannot really recommend this one moving forward.
I however am a bit of a completionist and a masochist, and I work a job that I just binge anime for hours while I work, so its actually not that big of a deal that these "fights" are barely animated... literally almost every fight in this season are just 1 punch and over lol. Hell watch the charecters when they are not in an action scene, they barely move. So we are left with a fairly large cast that dont have that much personality to speak of. So lastly we have the world building and over all story board and Plot. And if you guessed it from Season 1 there's just a whole lot of low life people back stabbing one another to literally climb to the top. Its interesting enough I suppose, but literally everything mentioned above could be improved upon greatly.
Honestly the best thing about this show is Rachel and how nonsensical she is, definitely gives off the "try and fix me vibes", I really love to hate her character, but with the lack of animation and characterization sounding her actions its even hard to love her.
I unfortunately will be watching S2-Part 2... so Season 3, I would not recommend anyone to follow me in this journey unless I find there is gold at the end of the tunnel, then I shall come back and edit my review with new found information.

8.25/10 ~ I have a mighty need for a continuation
If I had to give a vague description of this show it would be: "Super-human young boy discovers he is a demisexual from his transexual -laser gun toting traveling companion in a post apocalyptic waste land filled with monsters"
This one made me very emotionally invested in the story/characters the entire runtime of nearly all 13 ep, it made me laugh and cry. I cannot say that about alot of anime. I really wish I could give this a higher rating, but the last few episodes were such a tease for the clearly much bigger story that
...
will unfold in subsequent seasons if this does get any type of continuation. However the first 8 or so episodes were an extremely strong start and if later seasons follow this trajectory I could see this going down as a cult classic for years to come. Man I really hope they don't fumble this one.
Pros:
- Great characters, the two MC's were extremely enjoyable
- Great world building that I believe will flourish with time, I suspect this is just a teaser for what is to come
- just the right amount of exposition to keep you guessing each ep
- very suspenseful show, with great use of foreshadowing at every turn
- extremely good at turning the fun and humorous nob all the way down to the dark, and depressing
- that was yao guai reference right?
- despite the ending being dark as hell and rushed it was truly bitter-sweet
- excellent use of side stories / side quests, you really felt for everyone whether it be a good feeling or just deserts
- the constant reminder that people are the real monsters in this world
- ep 1-8 was truly peak anime and I would personally rate it a 9/10 easily.
- Watching a truly adult piece of media, especially in anime felt weirdly refreshing... why are these so rare in this type of genre
- decent English VA
Cons:
- some of the gore and such was a bit unnecessary
- none of the Japanese text was subtilled... and was really important (like at the end of Ep 8)
- ep 9-13 was so much faster paced then the rest of the show where it felt like it was too crammed with stuff and should have been atleast 2x the amount of episodes if not longer. ~ rushed
- alot of the scifi parts were just "okay I believe you"
--yep all those car battery's and old gas would totally be still useable
- other then for foreshadowing the "facility" scenes felt completely useless filler and will probably only matter for future seasons, but for season 1 they felt like a waste of time and a tease... really reminded me of Darling in the Franxx... which probably isnt a good thing
- you could probably skip literally every fight scene and just know that there was a fight and nothing would change.
- the world only felt post-apocalyptic sometimes and that was frustrating
- there is no way they wouldn't have died if no one ever doesn't actually keep watch lol
Its weird the biggest thing if you look through the comments and reviews for this show is how the SA or sexual identity and when it comes up over and over. And most people who feel strongly about it seem to be either A. not SA victim or B. Cis. One thing this show does really well is take the point of view from either a child or just someone that was never taught anything about these subjects. I understand the MC really isnt Trans... but they might as well be for the context of this discussion. In a post apocalyptic world, and society breaks down one of if not the first things to be thrown out will be sexual connotation, and SA will unfortunately be rampant in a lawless society, and if you look like a female and have the parts, well you will be a target for such things. Now they probably could have just said X and Y things happened and not actually shown them... but this was for emotional effect, and if you didnt feel something albeit anger or sadness especially when you hear "hey... Where are my cloths" line, you should probably have gotten the worst sinking feeling in your stomach, and if you didnt... well you should probably get yourself checked out. And I think that was the point of all those scenes. I also think they actually were quite tame for what they could have involved all things being said but they had to more or less keep it M or R rated not AO. I will say the last like, 5 or so minutes of the show was extremely weak and really should have been drawn out considerably, that felt extremely rushed. But so did all of the last 3 episodes in their entirety not just the after math, so it was not surprising, people just care about this because its a touchy subject, but these things do happen in every day life and shouldn't be swept under the rung. Part of me wishes that this was not as censored as it needed to be, like make scenes as cruel as they need to be if that is what you want. But they understand that no one would ever let that be published so we just kinda get this middling pretty censored version and people are just mad that they included it at all.
This one clearly takes from both the last of Us, the fallout universe and perhaps the walking dead (hell I was waiting for 'heaven' just to end up being Terminus) , but really has made it its own story. If you like any of those IP, you will probably be at home here. Be warned tho this has some pretty dark tones to the story including Gore, body horror and SA. If you cannot stomach these things I would just unfortunately skip this one.

6/10 ~
So a show like this that is very self aware on the fact that it is just some Harem Trash can only be so good, and my ranking does not compare it to simply other harem trash but all anime as a whole. If I had to actually rate it amongst its peers then it would probably rate pretty highly, probably because that bar is pretty low.
Pros:
- all the girls really vi for being best girl and are diffrent enough to make an impact
- thats alot of Yuri, kinda important in a poly type relationship that is almost entirely female, which... is
...
rare?
- this show made some jokes that I cant believe they made, the best one was "I am wet", I spit out my drink
-- the 1/2 of season 1 was funnier then it had any right to be
- was just dumb fun, very not serious and never took it as such
- wait... the mom too?
- character dynamics were weirdly kinda good...
- AI best girl
- animation was weirdly good
- English dub was good
- " I dont care how many men you love, as long as your love for me is real" or something was a great polly quote... weirdly progressive on that front, because at the end of the day what is a harem if not one big polycule... the answer is slavery... but this is the more modern harem not the classic.
Cons:
- plot bad, it was just a vehicle for the yuri
- I like a good Tsundere but my god she was annoying
-- I get the feeling nearly every 'Dere' Architype will be filled and thats kinda cringe
- MC was trash, pretty sure they only like him because of the magic system
- I HATE SCHOOL SETTINGS
- when it wasnt being funny it was just over the top in a pretty boring way
- thats alot of pediphilia
-- Diaper jokes were pretty bad
- rewatch value is extremely low unless one of these girls is your wifu... kinda weird choice but you do you
- at the end of the day this is just brain rot and I cant really recommend it to anyone that wants anything but
- omg just have sex with them already
At the end of the day I am only here because Mothersbasement did a pretty good video on it and I was like... sure I ill give it a shot, and alot of what he had to say was pretty spot on to be completely honest, so go watch his video on it to get a better picture. I would only recommend this to anime-watchers, and people who really want to watch a good harem show... which is alot less then you would think vs the amount of support this genre gets.

8/10 ~ Its a great metaphor
This was a great 12 minutes, a touching tale at the end of someone life looking back at where they come from. You can probably extrapolate more from this short film but it really just is a look back at life, each brick is just a moment of his life and hes just about at the end. The lack of dialog, paired with somber music and a very realistic artsyle was a joy to watch.
Now, I dont understand how this is considered anime, but AtLA, Rohirrim, and Arcane are not? bit weird if you ask me.
I would
...
recommend this to probably just adults, anyone good with self reflection on their lives. I really dont think Kids, Teens and Young adults will enjoy this one, but dont let me stop you from watching!

7.5/10 ~ Extremely strong start
Ranking of Kings is a show that really grows on you, it takes a very classic tale of the "Emperor's new cloths", but really builds on it in the most anime way possible, mix in the the art style of something similar to 7DS (and add the ENG VA of Meliodas) pair him with ProZD and Vegeta, add in some fantastic directing and camera work and you get This. However my biggest gripe is right around the time that Vegeta shows up the show just turns into a battle Shonen and really goes down the tube, but most of the main
...
charecters are compelling enough that its kinda worth the slog.
Pros:
- Not every day a Shonen type show makes me cry, this one did have some real touching moments
- most of the cast were enjoyable and or interesting
- the begining 10 or so episodes was extremely strong
- really enjoyed the very stylistic but simplistic art style
- ProZD was the MC of this show, not the little boy lol, don't let people fool you
- always enjoy a good heroes journey
- I think alot of the classic European fantasy tropes were used quite well, Magic mirror, fantasy beasts, the nothing to something/becoming king, etc
- some of the art style choices were fantastic, like malleable helmets and masks to show emotions
- English VA was excellent to the point where its probably the optimal way to watch this
- despite the 2nd half to watch I think the pacing was pretty good throughout
- wait... did that 12yo just ask to marry his step sister? what the heck am I watching
--> logistically how does a human women have a child with a Giant man, this is some Skitty x Wailord math going on
Cons:
- 2nd half of the show once all the actual fighting starting being the focus really took a turn for the worst, I blame Vegeta
- The story was somehow really straight forward but also really confusing, and I love political stuff normally, but peoples actions just didn't make sense over and over and some of the justifications were... idk she was crazy at the time?
- during most of the show when the 2x MC's started crying it felt like when sitcoms hit the " audience laugh button" but for the viewer to cry... kinda cringe tbh, but some of the moments did hit right, but there was too much crying for most of it to be effective, gotta use that stuff sparingly
- they made one particular character a bit to OP to the point where nothing really seamed to matter...
- for being Deaf and mute... it really didnt effect much especially since ProZD just relayed anything he had to say... and the hearing almost never came up to the point it felt stupid to even add this to the show past 'check box for childhood character development'
Over all I do not think this show stands up to the hype, but it is a good little fun adventure that teaches some pretty good morals and lessons that everyone should probably learn. This one really feels like something I would want to show my theoretical future children, as it has a Pseudo family - Ghibli vibe to it. I think this one was just pretty good and im sure I will recommend this one to plenty of people in person but by no means is this currently a "Must watch" or anything, however please keep in mind I rate on a 5/10 is average (as god intended) and anything over a 6.5/10 is worth mentioning.
This is good enough where ill hit up the weird not - season 2 and if this ever gets a sequel ill probably continue with it.

8/10 ~ Hosoda's 2nd best movie... so far
This year I decided to go through and watch Hosoda's entire discography and this was pretty much the last one. (Skipping Coo because I know its bad). Honestly with the exception of in my opinion his best work, Wolf Children, all of his work has progressively gotten better almost chronologically by release date. However he still seems to have this one problem with trying to cram too much into a movie, man just make a series already so you can put everything you want in them. Because of the format that are 1.5 -2 hr movies there has
...
to be alot of restraint on what they can include, how far in-depth they can go into background, development and theme past 1-2 main focal points like a main charecters actions and experiences. Belle, the movie, struggles mostly with every single character that isnt Belle, the main character. Hosoda really needed to pick a lane of, Best friend, the love interests, her identity-crisis/career path, Family (dad and old ladies), or the cyber world. There may be more lanes but all of these were pretty underdeveloped in my opinion. However the focal point of depression and anxiety that the main character underwent was done pretty well for a 2hr movie. I have to point out that I am not a big fan of musicals, but this one did not bother me so much for whatever reason. If you did not realize this is very lightly based on 'Beauty and the Beast'. That being said this one took more from 'Summer Wars' then Beauty, which is quite silly. I wouldn't be surprised if this is some sort of off shoot or indirect sequel to 'Summer Wars'.
Pros:
- This movie does the extremely rare thing of using mixed art styles/mediums to depict diffrent worlds. Heavy 3rd animation for Cyber space and more traditional 2D looking anime for "real life". I really wish other anime did this more, been asking for this for YEARS
- OST was pretty good
- English VA was great
- depiction of depression and how childhood trauma lives with us every day until its resolved was... well that was too real
- Extremely rare time where the rewatch value is insane on the 2nd time watching it Subbed Vs Dubbed and switching to the other. I cannot think of a single example where this is the case for another film (that is not humor related)
Cons:
- English dub did not subtitled all the texts and things written out or texted in Japanese to other charecters, forsure lost alot in that
- the ending was VERY rushed... just kinda ended lol
- fight scenes were very unnecessary and not very good
- not sure how this one will age with technology as it is more of a futuristic 'what if' of the near future with cyber space
- the mouth sync on the English dub is noticeably bad... that is really rare in modern anime
- See all points above for too many plot devices in 2hrs
- I really dont like when I have more questions then answers at the end of a movie (unless they are thought provoking, which these were not)
Over all I think Belle is a great movie, and it falls under the category that most Hosoda's work fits into that is very approachable especially to Non-anime watchers, which I think is a big feat and important to have these pieces in the medium. This is forsure a good one to watch with the family or a loved one, but really anyone that enjoyed 'Wolfchildren', 'Boy and the beast', 'Mira', or most Ghibli movies will probably enjoy this one. Honestly this movie probably fits more into the sub category of anime films like 'Silent voice', 'your name' and 'weathering with you' more then his own works which is kinda interesting.
I am very excited for 'Hateshinaki Scarlet' that apparently should be airing sometime later this year, hopefully he can break his streak and overcome the mountain that is 'Wolfchildren'!

4.5/10 ~ So much children crying
I really wanted to like this movie because when the good parts are good they really hit right. However this film has to be like actually 30% just 1+ children crying/screaming/complaining, Yes I understand that this pretty accurate, No I dont have to enjoy it. All I could think about is damn, they should have used more protection especially after they had their first child.
This movie tried to do the thing that like many Ghibli movies do especially well, capture the point of view of the world through the eyes of a child and really bring out that
...
magic that only children can truly experience. Most of the scene where the MC experiences the wounder were pretty well done, the everything else was just annoying and or just dragged out.
Its a real shame because I really enjoyed the visuals, the animation, even the general story boriding was done well enough, but my god you hear a child screaming like once every 3 minutes or so on average and its really annoying. And it really sucked me right out of the emersion from when the film was good.
I think a parent that has had a few children, an older sibling that has had to take care of a small child or grandparents will probably enjoy this movie more then once, I do not check any of these boxes so it may just not be for me.
Just go watch WolfChildren already lol

7.75/10 ~ Great movie but far from perfect
If you read through the comments there is a pretty common factor among most who have watched this one that the 2nd half of the film is not as good as the first, and I would agree with this. The start of the movie is incredible, engaging, interesting and you just want to stay in this world. The problem I found is this should have probably been a short series of 3-6 smaller 1-2 hour movies, the first 50-70 minutes or start really has some fantastic pacing, there is a time skip and all of a sudden the
...
pacing goes out the window and the content covered is the equivalent of 2-5 more parts that could have been made all lasting about an hour or so. Instead we got all of these moments, sub plots crammed into this small hour moment. Its a real shame because the movie over all is really a banger and I would recommend this one wholeheartedly. I personally have the need to compare this to the directors other works and this one falls pretty short compared to Wolf Children, in my humble opinion. as someone else in here said "Spirited Away meets Jungle Book. But not as cool as it sounds." I would agree with this except I hated the jungle book and yeah its very sported away adjacent.
Now lets talk about the movie as a whole,
Pros:
- The visuals are probably the best part of this movie
--Incredible camera work with those banger wide shots
--amazing scenery art style, the world really feels lived in
- I enjoyed the MCs and the overall main cast
- This movie made me cry, in like a happy good cry several times through the movie
- English dub is very good
- pretty good story for a young person to understand depression and how to deal with it; its have support and believe in yourself if you didnt get that lol
- very little weeb/anime culture in this move, which is extremely refreshing as I HATE that stuff
Cons:
- Music is kinda whatever
- as per mentioned above, the pacing goes from top notch to kinda garbage in the half way point
- because of the pacing the love interest part is kinda botched
- ending past the climax is pretty meh
- the antagonist could have had more build up, lost to bad pacing :/
Overall I really think the good parts of the movie out ways the bad, and the 2nd half isnt inherently bad, it just wasn't enough content and this never should have been a single 2 hour movie. Unlucky. This movie falls into the same category as most Ghibli movies both in the fact of how it blends mondain life with the mystical but by the fact that this movie is very approachable to non-anime watchers and that is always a great thing. Great for the family, or a cozy night with the SO.
Happy watching!
