Story/Character/Overall: 9-10
Monster is a 74 episode epic following Dr.Tenma and his quest to... (redacted) only through (redacted)... are they able to work together to (redacted)... and finally they live happily ever after... or do they?
Dr.Tenma's story is intertwined with a number of other professional, relatable, and most importantly: human characters as they look to uncover the mysteries surrounding the antagonist. The characters are top notch and the dialogue and interactions are
...
very intelligent and (most of the time) very believable.
With a 74 episode runtime the plot is interesting and layered, however some episodes can get a bit muddied and/or boring. Thinking back, most of the boring episodes were for characterization, and work to show us a deeper view into a character's mind/personality.
Unfortunately, some sections of the story borders on unbelievable and unreasonable.
Its a long show and there is a bit of filler, I would recommend watching at 1.2-1.5x speed. Chrome has an extension for doing this.
Since there is no legal source for this show you are forced to search for dvd copies or more unsavory methods.
Art: 5
The art is dated, but sufficient for the story. It fits the time and is fine.
Sound: 4
The sound design is alright, I can see what they were trying to go for with the opening and ending themes, but I find them loud and boring. The voice acting is fine in the dub, I would recommend it over the sub.
(The Art and Sound aren't enough to take away from the overall enjoyment. This is due to it being heavily focused on story and character)
