My liking for this anime is mostly based on my connection to the subject matter. Rarely do I find an anime or even a show that captures the affects of bullying so well. But bullying can't account for all of the other social aspects that are presented in Koe No Katachi.
Depression and anxiety are the main themes that I picked up on. There are two different kinds of people with anxiety that this movie represents; those that hide from the world with their head down and those that face it head on trying to fake it until they make it. But ...

Orange: Mirai (Anime) add
It had been about a year since I watched the series and I quickly remembered all the emotions this anime gave me. They all came flooding back along with my love for the animation of this show.
The movie helped to conclude the show while stirring up conflicting emotions for the characters. The only complaint I have about the movie (and the show honestly) is the reality of what depression is. Granted, this is a movie about people that can write letters to their past selves but the show suggests that if you just spend more time with a person and show them ...

Ao no Exorcist gave me the feels from episode one. It starts off as any conflicted hero show with a tragic beginning but there is something about Rin Okumura's emotions and reactions that really grabbed my attention. He's a character that knows his weaknesses but powers through them. Even when others get down on him, he presses forward sometimes through sheer ignorance. The brother dynamic he has with his twin Yukio is also very interesting. As a sibling, I think anyone can relate to their emotions of jealously, protection and frustration.
I also appreciated that Rin wasn't simply the strongest character. ...

Mixed Feelings
A classroom filled with murderous little children whose teacher is an indestructible smiling octopus thing whose bent on destroying the world. I had such high hopes for this anime with a synopsis like that. But in the end, the show fell flat.
Ansatsu Kyoushitsu didn't break from common school themes that most anime follow. There were all the typical students with their typical dramas and woes. Then came the typical drama of falling in love with the enemy and internal conflicts that persist throughout the series. The whole thing became very predictable. There wasn't much substance to hold my interest ...

Akame ga Kill! grabbed me from episode 1. That says a lot when you don't have to keep watching a show to see if its going to get any better.
Akame ga Kill! is your typical anime plot of a character wanting to prove himself to everyone else who thinks they're not of value. However, Akame ga Kill! may have the look of an upbeat "go get 'em" show but beware; a lot of death and destruction is ahead for all characters.
Episode 1 really set that tone from the get go. I was expecting a journey like Naruto's where miraculously everyone ...

Handa-kun (Anime) add
Mixed Feelings
The only reason Handa-kun receives a 5 is due to my love for Barakamon. I was wishing so much for an amazing prequel for my favorite anime of all time, Barakamon. Sadly, I was disappointed.
I really only enjoyed the Handa parts and his voice acting. The overall story and other characters (that are not even mentioned in Barakamon) were pretty lame. It was pretty unbelievable that Handa was the most popular kid in school but had no idea that he was that loved by his fellow students. While in Barakamon he does have insecurities of being liked for ...

Toradora! (Anime) add
Toradora! is one of my more favorite romantic comedies. Anime tends to have a horrible romantic theme of being over dramatic but Toradora! brings enough comedy to the story to make the romance bearable.
Toradora! is a cute story between two students that are very misunderstood. Their looks and outward attitudes often scare people away. The story follows their struggles to belong and find love in a world where most people have already decided their fate. I found myself relating to the main female character; a girl that hid her insecurities by trying to intimidate others.
The character development is also very real ...

All Out!! (Anime) add
All Out!!! was like a mecha anime but the human bodies as the machine. I initially gave this anime a 6 but since then have rewatched this one twice and always find new reasons to watch it. For a sports anime, its entertaining and I actually learned a lot about rugby; a sport I seem to always end up watching on the weekends but never fully understood until now.
Besides being educational, the characters and their interactions were entertaining. It kept with a common anime theme of overcoming insecurities and difficulties then yelling "I got this!" or "I won't give up!". The ...

There is nothing more that I love than a well thought out and complicated time travel story. I loved the original Steins;Gate series from episode one and have watched it many times to find plot holes (which I still have not found and probably will never find because it is so amazing).
Naturally I geeked out hard for this movie. Without giving anything away, all I can say is that it did not disappoint. I cried and laughed like I do every time I watch Steins;Gate. I think I even cried more. I love seeing how they tied the show and ...

Barakamon (Anime) add
What can I say, I love Barakamon. I have watched it now over 5 times. Whenever I'm feeling lonely, stuck in a rut or even when the weather is just a little depressing; Barakamon brings me back to a happy place.
I was never one for slice of life anime until Barakamon. I was obsessed with Sailor Moon like story lines and even got into the gorey side of anime. Then Natsu entered my life (the main child character) and I find myself still looking for the next Barakamon.
Barakamon has the right amount of drama, comedy and "romance" a show ...
