Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is one of the highest rated anime of all time, and as someone who finished the series I can see why. Real stakes, real characters, and real fun. I've been excited to write this review for a while, so let's get into those juicy details.
Story (9):
The story of FMAB is very coherent and I was never once confused during the story. They expanded upon the universe and each of the important characters very well, and they always did a good job of weaving each of the arcs together. As someone who never watched the original Fullmetal Alchemist, I was surprised that I
...
was never lost in the story besides the first few minutes of the first episode. All of the arcs were exciting to varying degrees, with the most 'boring' arc being just a 7 from me. The story kept getting better and better with each episode, which only made me more excited to keep watching. I can't talk about the detail of the ending, but it was really amazing and definitely worth the journey.
Art (9):
The artwork for this series is great. The metallic colors and shades as well as the duller pastels really added to the more serious tone of this anime. FMAB does have some comedy moments, but the art style perfectly represents what it was going for; a more series anime that wants to make you FEEL the stakes. The artwork and colors do a great job of reminding us of the intents and purposes of this anime.
Sound (7):
The sound for this series was really good and did what it was supposed to do, but it wasn't anything too special. I noticed the sound, such as metal clanking or gunfire or Alchemical noise, and it always fit the occasion and did a good job of drawing attention to what was happening on the screen, but I was never like "woah that's some awesome sound" I was more like "this is good, but I am too focused on the art to notice this".
Characters (10):
The characters in this anime are really perfect. I always either felt a strong attachment and relatability to the struggles of some of the "good guys" like Edward or absolutely despised the "bad guys" of this anime. I really like how even with the "bad guys" of the series I actually was able to understand WHY they were doing the things they were, which made them relatable in a way too. This is something many series miss out on that FMAB really did well. I could understand the goals of every character in this anime, which made it all the more investing.
Enjoyment (10):
As I think I mentioned earlier, this series kept getting more and more exciting with every episode. Each arc seemed to improve from the previous one, with the exception of a couple moments that felt a little off for me. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed this series as a 10 despite its flaws because I understood what it was going for and that happened to be something that is right up my alley.
Overall (10):
If you like lighthearted series, you probably won't like FMAB. This series is more serious than most anime around, and while it does work in its favor, I realize that's not for everyone. If you love high stakes, intensity, and sometimes even a feeling of powerlessness followed by overcoming all odds, you'll probably like this series. Don't let me choose your path though, if you want to watch it, just go for it. You can always drop it later if you don't like it, but I think you'll probably enjoy it, but if you don't, well, I am sorry.

I think based on my review; you guys got a pretty good idea of what I think of this anime. Gurren Lagann is an anime that I adore and an anime that got me out of a really tough time in my life, so naturally I will admit I may be a bit biased in this review, but I will do my best to keep my own personal life outside of this review and just explain why I think this series is worth watching.
Story (8):
From the underground village to the end, the story is clear, coherent, and overall, just a really fun ride. I
...
loved seeing Simon and Kamina overcome challenges before them in the most hype way possible. There were always threats in front of them, and the past experiences helped the characters overcome their most difficult fights. I think for the kind of goals Gurren Lagann is going for, this type of story is just perfect. It's a hype show, so of course the story needs to keep placing the hype before us in a way that makes sense. That being said, I do feel like they could have done more with it. I know they did a lot in 27 episodes, and I agree with that, but there was still so much more I wanted to see from the story, like things I can't mention in this review due to spoilers but you guys who watched the series probably know what I am trying to get at.
Art (10):
The art style for Gurren Lagann is, how do I say this... absolutely frickin' awesome. The art style is as excessive and extreme and insane as possible, making it perfect for the kind of hype that it goes for. The orange dim yet not dull pallet of colors makes the visuals absolutely beautiful for a 2006 series. I can't say how much I love the colors for this series, they are nothing short of beautiful. The character designs for some of the characters might seem bland up front, but I was surprised to see how much detail was put into Simon and Kamina, as well as the Gunmen. In addition to that, if you look closely there are a lot of funny gimmicks and jokes about scale and size that were done purposefully by the artists, which did give me a few good laughs throughout the series.
Sound (9):
The sound design for Gurren Lagann is really, really good. The intense booms and crashes always make the gunmen feel like they have weight and power behind them, almost too much power, which only does the series even more favors. The sound design really compliments the art in such a great way that it's hard to describe without watching it first. Both the art and sound are intense, which adds to the hype atmosphere that the shows going for. The feel goods really come out when you hear a gunman explode or slam into the ground. That boom is always just too satisfying.
Characters (9):
The characters in Gurren Lagann are pretty world famous if you ask me. Let's first start with the fan favorite, Kamina. This living embodiment of hype is exactly what keeps the team together. His outgoing nature and his natural leadership skills as well as his lack of fear makes him super exciting to watch. He always keeps the timid Simon on his feet and gives him a reason to fight. Simon, on the other hand, is almost the other side of Kamina. Simon, unlike Kamina, is a timid, fearful boy who hates fighting but has a gift for drilling, making him the imperfect-yet-perfect pilot of Lagann. His development over the series is so heartwarming it's one of the main reasons why I come back to this series constantly.
While the main duo has a lot of importance, they wouldn't go anywhere without the rest of the great cast. Yoko, who on the outside seems like a stereotypical fanservice girl, is actually the biggest badass of the series. She makes sure to always keep the team on their feet by using her exceptional rifle skills and her semi-harsh nature. She makes sure to keep the team alive and she can easily go head-to-head with most enemies without fear. The rest of the cast we meet along the way are also amazing in their own ways, despite having a couple that go a little too far with the stereotypes (people who have watched the show know what I am talking about) they always seem to fit into the story nicely and they all have their roles to play.
Enjoyment (10):
This series is just so much fun. Through my entire watch through, there wasn't a moment when I wasn't feeling some kind of emotion. I was always at the edge of my seat, wondering what kinds of crazy stuff would happen next. I definitely scared my neighbors at least a few times by accidentally yelling out something at my monitor in excitement during some crazy fight scene of mecha evolution.
Overall (10):
If you love being hyped up to the extreme, you'll love Gurren Lagann. If you love extreme and over the top humor, you'll also love this show, and if you love crazy battles with things that don't really make much make sense, you'll love it too. If you look at the logics of everything/take everything seriously, or you aren't a fan of over-the-top hype stuff, then I don't think you'll like this show too much, but don't let me tell you what to do, check it out for yourself. Trust me, it's worth at least trying.
