Blue Lock season 2 was a complete disappointment. It's not just that the animation quality was garbage, or that the whole season is dedicated to pretty much only one match (though these points do make it worse), but, for me, the series has stopped working in season 2.
Season 1 introduced great characters, the concept of ego, and a competition dynamic. But season 2 feels a little like the series doesn't know where to go from here. The formula is starting to be the same: Isagi starts as the underdog and ends of doing something awesome. The supporting characters are interesting, but I don't think they
...
carry the series anymore. For example, I like Reo and Nagi, but their appearances in this season were kind of minimal, so I didn't feel as invested in them.
I've decided to stop watching this show because I think that, after this season, it's going to crash and burn. The plot doesn't have an interesting direction to evolve, from what I can see.
Add this to the fact that Eight Bit's animation is too stilted and relies too much on bad CGI and what do we have? A series where you have to watch hours of cringe dialogue just for couple of cool moments per season. Yeah, no, thanks.

This movie covered what was my favorite arc in the manga and it did a great job! The protagonist this time is not Yuuji Itadori, but a new character named Yuta Okkotsu. He's a great protagonist because, to me, he's more relatable than Itadori. Instead of being a happy-go-lucky MC, he's a depressed teenager with no friends. Seeing him grow is a delight.
The character of Yuta Okkotsu is similar to Junpei from season 1, so his story felt like an alternate reality for Junpei, which is something that I enjoyed.
Something else that I liked about Okkotsu is his power. In general, Jujutsu Kaisen's powers are
...
interesting, but his is my favorite so far.
Now, I suppose we should talk about the visuals and soundtrack: both were great. For the music and sound, what I can say is there was a scene near the end where the music and voice acting hit the mark perfectly and it made me cry. As for the visuals, this is Mappa, so no surprise there. But even when good quality is expected from them, they still made an effort to make the movie even prettier than what we saw in season 1.
There were only two things which I didn't like about the movie:
1. The plot twist from volume 0 was spoiled ahead of time.
2. Not specific to the movie, but I feel like the series is leaning too heavily on concepts of "destined people" and "inherited powers". While it hasn't bothered me too much yet, things can become too predictable if they keep going in this direction. Jujutsu Kaisen needs to be especially careful because it has an overpowered concept like domain expansion, which can make certain fights one-sided. For example, if Maki became hypothetically evil, we know that Gojo would stop her. There's no way for him NOT to stop her because she can't deal with his domain.
Anyway, that's just a side rant which I noticed in this movie. But still, I don't want to finish this review on a negative note. I did love the movie! It was full of great moments and it's an awesome complement to the main series. With anime movies, OVA, and other extras, sometimes they end up feeling like a cash grab, but in this case I feel like the movie was well justified and worth a watch!

Despite looking generic at first glance, Jujutsu Kaisen has become one of my favorite shounen shows. Initially, I wasn't interested in the premise: a guy gets super powers by eating a cursed object and joins an exorcism school. I've seen at least three similar shows that I recall: Bleach, Blue Exorcist, and Chainsaw Man. I'm sure there are many more, but Jujutsu Kaisen is special because of its characters, who felt real to me. At first, they appeared like clichés, but then their personalities got expanded and they became different than what I expected.
For example, Kugisaki is the main girl. Initially, she seems like the
...
regular girl who's headstrong and forgettable, but I liked her when she started to proclaim herself as "cute" and show superficiality. She's very confident, which is a fresh take on this kind of character.
Most characters are expanded throughout the series. The cast is large and varied. Each one has a different ability and it's interesting to see how they interact and fight.
The only one of the main characters that I didn't like was Satoru Gojo. He's the strongest character in the show, and he has a typical "funny-guy-who-can-get-serious" attitude.
Other than the characters, the story is pretty interesting. The pacing is fast and the author isn't afraid of killing characters when necessary.
The production and direction from Mappa are also great. The fights look amazing and I liked all of the characters' voices. The music was a little hit-or-miss for me, but it had some good tracks.
Overall, this is a very high quality shounen which deviates from the norm enough to be fresh and entertaining.
