STORY: This anime was not what I had imagined based on the title and cover, in the end, the title seems to be more of a question than a statement asking the viewer to judge for themselves Tanya's actions. Similar themes and commentary regarding war can be seen in attack on titan, humanizing the various combatants and presenting them all as relatable and their decisions as justifiable based on their knowledge, circumstances, and emotions. This anime like most others is a ramp-up to the manga, which I have not yet read, so I don't know what conclusions this story ultimately makes. Without spoiling it, the
...
basic premise of the anime is quite original, and refreshing.
ART: Decent, does the job. At no point did I feel as though it fell short of what was necessary to do the story justice, the animation made good use of the tools they had available and did a lot with relatively little, but don't expect anything amazing, as for the design of the characters and setting, nothing special, everything looks good.
SOUND: Alright, again nothing special, but gets the job done.
CHARACTER: There's a limit to the character exploration and development you can get done in twelve episodes, Tanya is the only one who gets significant consideration, everyone else is just kinda there, doing their thing, to a degree they are just obstacles for Tanya to navigate, but the show does occasionally break that constant. You'll definitely find yourself rooting for Tanya and against her arch-rival.
ENJOYMENT: This anime was enthralling, I wanted to see what happened next, but I only found it moderately exciting, you want Tanya to win but I didn't find a strong connection to her, mildly funny at points but overall the story seemed more interesting than eliciting any strong emotions.
OVERALL: So yeah, 7 stars, nothing exceptional to see here but it was worth the watch.
