Goodnight PunPun is the weirdest case of a series for me. It is one of my all-time favorites, but at the same time I absolutely hate re-reading it. The series is extremely heartbreaking beyond any and all expectations I had heading in. Watching the story of PunPun from all the way back in elementary all the way to young adulthood...it was so good, but so tragic. PunPun and Aiko, though one of THE most toxic relationships in manga, still had me very attached. We all know with Chapter 139...up there for the most heartbreaking chapters in manga history for me.
"Good vibrations" all around, as they

say. I think part of why PunPun is such a masterpiece is the fact that it is SO real. Every scenario in this manga, somebody out there surely can relate to it in a very real and personal way. No punches are being pulled in this story. It tells you how it is, and the grim reality of the world and adulthood.
Part of why PunPun is one of my favorites is also the time I read it. I'm currently exactly 20 years old, and the emotions of PunPun's struggles through jumping into the adulting world strike me personally at this very moment in time. I'll always remember the exact time I read this manga.
This manga had me hooked chapter-to-chapter, but at the same time was so exhausting. And somehow I mean that in a great way. Again, this is NOT a fun read. Not even one bit. It's the first manga for me to really almost "regret" reading in a way, even though it's an absolute masterpiece. The writing attaches you to everybody so well in quick fashion.
To me, Goodnight PunPun is fitting at the least enjoyable masterpiece in manga. I find a few flaws with it through the middle of the story, but overall it's an outstanding story from start to finish, and doesn't overstay its welcome.
