I love myself a bit of 'opposites attract' so naturally I was quite drawn to this. If you're into that sort of thing then Cherry Magic is totally worth your time. The back of the manga literally says something like 'Clean-cut hottie x Virgin with self-esteem issues.' How much more 'opposites attract' can you get?! Also, the side ship follows the same formula: Cute younger, extroverted dancer with bleached hair x introverted, older, tall, dark-haired, glasses-wearing author?! Yes, please :>. the entire cast and premise are fun to be with. A great watch for all fujoshi, fundanshi, and fujins alike!
I also really appreciate a good story about finding love a little later in life. Workplace romances in anime generally aren't the best, so this felt like a breath of fresh air. A big theme in the latter half of this show is communication in building a relationship, and it's generally executed well. Of course, it wouldn't be anime without a few instances of grown adults communicating like teenagers, but overall, I liked it, and there wasn't anything that severely messed with my viewing experience. Overall, the premise is interesting and well-explored!
Animation has its highs and lows (trust me when I say this. The highs are SUPER high, but the lows are disappointing). A lot of the budget was clearly spent on the beginning of the series and the important scenes involving Adachi and Kurosawa. Sometimes the characters can look a little stiff and facial proportions can be inconsistent, but it didn't take anything away from the series for me as I was pretty invested. It did hinder my enjoyment but ONLY A LITTLE! Also the art style is very nice and appealing! I love their lashes lol.
I've never written a review, but I just had to because this series has been such a great run! Hearing the first note of that intro every week has brought me so much joy. Disappointed that there will likely be no season 2, but hey! That's what the manga's for, right?! Overall, a good series; the first half is a bit better than the second if you ask me, but that's for you to decide...
