I preface this review with the source material is always by far superior. This is definitely true of P5tA. If you have played Persona 5 (or like me, played it twice within 2 months of its release), this show is a satisfactory reminder of the fantastic experience of playing the game. The music is all either true to the game or new but suitable. That in itself is a pleasant surprise - I found myself getting goosebumps when certain familiar songs started to play.
Much of the story is also pretty surprisingly true to the source. However, as with all past and present Persona animations, the

Golden Kamuy
(Anime)
add
Golden Kamuy is a series that has a lot of potential as it continues forward to season 2. I think it narrowly missed some of the potential regarding character interactions, growth, and general direction in season 1. It certainly had some high moments and episodes, many laughs and surprises, but there was always a higher potential beneath what was portrayed.
The highest point for me (mild spoiler alert) as someone who recently played Hakuoki's numerous releases was the reveal of Hijikata being one of the main nemesis characters to the series. This tied the series into Japanese history and other popular titles in a way ... Mar 6, 2018

I'm sure this review of an old anime won't be of help to many.
However, I had to post my feelings on this show. This show is a work of art. Watching it, I thoroughly enjoyed it throughout. It was hilarious, it was thoughtful. I was planning on giving it 8-9/10. Then I got to the final episode, and I realized that it was truly a masterpiece. I realized how amazing this show was, and I had to tell others about it. This show is unique from so many others. The characters are well fleshed-out, the story is touching, and the art is strange in the best of ... Jan 20, 2018
Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica
(Anime)
add
Madoka Magica is a unique anime for many reasons. Despite its benign genre of mahou shoujo, it manages to break many typical tropes and stand out on its own as a masterful reimagining of a classical anime genre. It is full of despair, dread, misconceptions, misunderstanding, deception, dread, angst, and above it all, hope. There has never been an anime of this genre quite like it, and that is precisely what makes it so distinguished and enjoyable. Although I can't deny that the ending is utterly ridiculous, it manages to adhere to the story and characters that have developed throughout this show.

Although I doubt this review will be found helpful by anyone almost 2 years after airing, I had to share my opinion on it. It is a work of art, from start to finish. Seasons one and two. Everything about this show is amazing and awe inspiring. I have watched this show three times in its entirety, and every time I've watched it, I have admired it more. I can't say enough how much this show affects me, as almost every episode has me clutching my chest and saying aloud "this show is so good."
When I first watched season 1, I gave it 9/10. ... Dec 9, 2017

The source otome for this anime was the first otome I've ever played, and I just finished it 3 weeks ago. If my boyfriend is right about animes based on otomes, this show is not unique in that it is a hollow shell of its source material. If you are even somewhat considering watching this anime without having played the otome, I'd strongly urge you not to. The source material was ridiculous, ludicrous, utterly insane - but that was what was so good about it. I loved every ridiculous storyline of the game. However, this anime series was utterly disappointing.

I will always be a huge fan of shows that can give me "feels." I watched this show first on my own and then again with my boyfriend, and both times the final episodes made me burst into almost hysterical tears. I do feel the characters were less genuine than I felt they could have been, which is why the score is 9 instead of 10. Otherwise, this show hit me in all of the right emotions. One of the best emotionally charged shows I've seen in years. The realism surrounding friendship disintegrating years after tragedy, the difficulty of rekindling those emotions...I could probably watch

Angel Beats!

I am going to express my firm (but apparently unpopular) opinion in saying that this is one of my all-time favorite animated shows. I can see others' point of view in expressing this to be a show that tries to illicit tears, though I do not think this is the only strong point of this show. The main character may be moderately generic, though the other characters are creative enough to make them feel realistic. I found myself brought to tears at least three or four times during this show, and that is one of the biggest positive criteria I can think of. I like

Shimoneta was a funny and enjoyable show. I really appreciated the fact that there was a lewd show with sexual jokes that wasn't fan-service-y. Nothing bothers me more than enjoying a show for a few episodes, then the show deciding to go with panty-shots and nudity. This show was perverse and, for the most part, did it in a way that made it purely comical and did not try to be sexy. I enjoyed it most prior to the "Gathered Fabric" arcs, but it still managed to be entertaining even afterwards. It was very self-aware, and for that it deserves credit.

I love the concept because I think we all have some aspect of our past selves that we'd love to pretend didn't exist, but usually comes back to haunt us. Season 2 is a different type of enjoyable, (fan-service-y) but still worthwhile for the open-minded.
