Lately it's been rare to come across an original anime. One that isn't an adaptation of an anime of a novel. Making adaptation isn't a bad thing in itself but the fan base usually end up disappointed and compare it with the original a lot. With Guilty Crown, this couldn't happen. Guilty Crown tried to stand out on his own and it worked quite well in the beginning of the show... yeah, in the beginning. At first I wasn't drawn into the story that much and I didn't watch it all until recently. All I heard about Guilty Crown was that it was garbage so
...
I had to judge for myself.
''GC versus. CG''
That's one thing I've seen a lot while reading about Guilty Crown over the net. Why does it have to be one of the other ? While the score of Guilty Crown are usually ridiculously high or ridiculously low, I put mine at 5 - Average. I'll tell you why !... Apart from the beautiful animation, the catchy Intro song and Ending song both performed by Supercell (Egoist) for this show or the BGM.
1. STORY :: What the Fuck is going on ?
The universe of Guilty Crown is set in Japan after the outbreak of a virus called 'Apocalypse Virus'. Japan has been hit by 'Lost Christmas' a disaster where the virus went wild and lot of people died from it. For now, Japan is 'kind of' at peace with people living normal life. However, they need injection to counter the virus. After Lost Christmas, Japan lost its independence and became ruled by others. So far... Everything is good.
On day, the main character, Shu, meet THE girl. Inori is a singer Shu likes a lot but she is soon taken by the authority leaving him with something important she needed to deliver to someone. He decides to take on the job and end up in a rebel organization called : Funeral Parlor. That's where the story really begins.
Then... What the Fuck is going on ? Of course, they end up trying to save Japan, The World, Everything !
What is the problem with Guilty Crown ? When watching GC, you will have a lot of : ''Déjà vu'' from many other show. This is why many people compared this show to Code Geass and I won't argue about that. I saw the similitude between the two. Code Geass isn't the only show you can easily relate this one to. It doesn't stand out on his own two feet but takes on a lot of good thing from others show and was heavily inspired from it maybe. Probably. This makes a pretty messed up story where you seriously wonder ''Where is this going ?'' and all the thing happening to the heroes seems to be here for drama only and doesn't really flow correctly one with the other. While I found the first half of the show to be decent, the second half killed the show for me as the whole mess made by ''a litte bit of this and then a little bit of this'' was even more obvious. The second half of the story had no point whatsoever after the conclusion of the 12th first episode. Or should I say, after watching the whole 22 episodes, I asked myself what was the point of the first 12 then ? Nothing ! There was no purpose, all of it... for nothing.
I will refrain from saying anything from the ending except that it didn't seems to be the logical conclusion.
I gave 4 to the story as I liked the main idea with the virus and the beginning of it all... or the conclusion of it all but, everything else happening was a mess and the story kind of repeating itself in the second half killed the first half even tho I liked the way the first half was solved.
2.CHARACTERS:: Who the Fuck are they ?
Lately anime offer us a large variety of characters in pretty much each show. That's a good thing when characters stand out on their own and are interesting everyone can have a character they liked more and it's not just the Hero doing his shit and everyone else following with everyone being part of the 'Hero' concept. All the characters in GC looks awesome. All of them. The Animation is beautiful so it is to be expected. While they looks good, they have nothing else than Look. Almost all of them... I can relate to something I've seen somewhere else. I mean... Ayase = Karen much ? I could see Karen written all over her with her boobs bouncing while she's in her machine. Déjà vu, eh ? The characters are full of stereotype and while Shu tries to persuade us that Inori got some sort of personality for herself, I just can't see this personality. Where ? Where ? I saw nothing except a girl doing whatever she was told and moaning when he takes her void. Yeah, I noticed that.
Shu is your common hero / main characters. An ordinary boy running into a 'special' girl and getting thrown into a big story he doesn't really understand at first. He doesn't know how to fight but when he get Inori's void... I guess knowledge comes with it or something. He doesn't really have any characters development too and after the show end, I'm pretty sure he doesn't have any improvement.
3. ENJOYMENT :: Why should I care ?
Guilty Crown isn't bad. It's easy to enjoy it. I watched all the episode one after the other and I liked it. I can't say I was bored. I wasn't. Guilty Crown is an entertaining show with Action, Mecha and the story is decent.
If you've been watching Anime for a while, you might be a little bit bored and have a bunch of Déjà-vu from other show. You won't see anything new in this show. If you haven't seen a lot of anime show yet, watching Guilty Crown is a good idea. As a blank page, with nothing else in mind to compare it to or relate it to. You'll enjoy it. Maybe more than I did.

When I saw the letter K on the list of anime coming out this autumn 2012 season, I was curious. I'll be frank, the animation in the trailers are very appealing. Trailer being what they are, they do not tell you... What is K ? Forget the Shiny Animation and I'll try do to a review without falling in the path of the fan-boys/girls or the haters route.
What is K ? K is an anime and a Manga. Both are fairly news and I had never heard of the Manga before the Anime came out. I do not really get the title of K.
...
Why K ? It's not as simple as understanding why Naruto is called Naruto. The letter K does come out as the first letter of each episode's title and about the various themes you can find in the anime.
The animation of this show is... beast. I'll admit it. I have nothing to say. Probably the best animation this season and year. It was very pretty. I'll also add that the soundtrack were top notch. The OP was decent and the ending... well, seeing a main character naked all the ED isn't really my thing and doesn't suit the show at all.
1. STORY :: What the Hell is going on and where is this going ?
In the universe of K, there's seven 'kings' given particular power. Soon enough we are introduced to the Blue King and the Red King but, later in the show, you will get to see more of them. The Kings give some of their Power to their clansmen and make their little 'team' and do their things with their clan. Homra (Red King) is similar to a Street Gang while Scepter 4 (Blue King) resemble more some kind of police... -ish. The Story begin with the Main Character, Shiro. While doing an errand, he is attacked by some people he doesn't know and learn (He sees a video of it) that he killed one of their clansman/friend. He doesn't remember any of this and try to find proof of his innocence... and/or fix this mess somehow.
In itself, the story isn't that bad. Some part might feel similar to Durarara!! but, it's not such a bad thing. Personally, I liked the mysteries about this murder and this is what made me watch more of it at first as the mystery regarding this event would clear up little by little. Kings giving Power to their clansmen is something I had never come across before, it's pretty interesting and it is giving the feeling that we will come across some pretty nice fighting scene between different Kings and their Clans.
However, the pacing end up being annoying very quickly. Usually, people would complain that the pacing of a show is too quick near the end. Rushed. In the case of K, it was the contrary. The First few episodes had a good pacing. Not too Fast. Not too Slow. Everything was slowing getting in place and then, it goes from 'Good' to 'FUCKING SLOW'. I watched episode where I'm pretty sure 50% of it was useless. This is mostly dude to this show trying to do so many thing at the same time but, I will get on this topic in a few. With all this slow pacing, sometimes, you really start to wonder where is this going anyway since this seems to be going no where at all. I wouldn't say the ending had no point. There was one. The Story itself was solved. The conflit started with the video of Shiro killing a member of Homra and THIS was solved at the end. Yes, it was. Linking the way it was solved or Hating it is up to you tho !
2. CHARACTERS :: Who the Hell are those guys ?
Exactly... Who are they ? This is one question that is left unanswer and this is also the reason why the story failed. What K tried to do tho, is giving up one main goal to achieve and then putting many character around it with different issues.... I'm one of those thinking something like: the 'Story' is similar to a background. It is true in this particular case where the 'Story' is a pretext and you just thrown in a lot of characters and they will build your story. I believe this is where K failed. Yes, the 'Pretext' is solved but some many little 'Stories' making the big one were left unsolved. We were left with our Hunger. I feel like there was much more to solve.
I can name a lot of characters I wished I had the chance to understand and know more. The only one we got the chance to understand a little was Shiro and it was sloppy. I think I understand and know what the fuck is Sasuke in Naruto doing more than Shiro! What the hell... ? I can tell right away this is wrong, ahah. The whole show, they gave screen time to Yata Misaki and Fushimi. They even gave screen time to flashback about them. I mean, they made me care for this duo of friend/foe but, nothing was solved after all. Yeah... Nothing. Can anyone explain to me the purpose of this last flashback in episode 13 ? Except for the Fangirls, tho. Still wondering.
I didn't feel any 'affection' for any characters in this show at all. I had interest. I did. A lot. Characters dying ? Alright! Bring it on! ...since I don't really know them anyway. Who haven't seen Clannad and cried for Nagisa ? We knew Nagisa and Tomoya very well and liked them Otherwise, no tears would have been waste on it.
3. ENJOYMENT :: Why should I care ?
This is the most subjective part of anything. Enjoyment is subjective. I might like Roller coaster and maybe you don't. We all have different tastes and our enjoyment might be influence by things we like. The 'Why should I care' is personal to everyone. This part is pretty interesting when we're talking about K tho. This is the part where everyone goes :
''K tries to be so many thing at the same time !''
Do you like Ecchi ? Do you like Mysteries ? Do you like Moe ? Do you like Shounen ? Do you like Shonen-Ai ? Do you like Panties shot ? Do you like Boobs ?... Either way, whatever you like, you'll find it in K ! Isn't that cool ?... Not really. If I want to watch boobs, I'll watch Highschool DxD or whatever. Being too many things makes you get a lot more viewer probably. That might be true a first. If you liked Shonen-Ai, you enjoyed the Shiro blushing in first episode and enjoyed the Love/Hate relationship between many Red and Blue members. If you liked Moe, you enjoyed Anna being a cute all the time. If you liked Panties shot, you liked Kukuri. If you liked Mysteries, you liked the murder incident and trying to guess who really is Shiro, like myself. If you liked Shounen, you liked the fighting scene. If you liked Boobs, you liked Seri. There's no end to this !
but if you liked Shounen, you were probably annoyed at the Love/Hate relationship. If you liked Shonen-Ai, I dunno but maybe the Panties and Boobs weren't that interesting. It works either way.
I can't say I didn't enjoy K. Everything is part of the enjoyment and there was decent thing in K but nothing will make me remember K in a few months and this will probably become another anime in my List I don't even remember what it was about.
Trying to be good at too many thing usually doesn't let you shine in one...

If you're going to watch Umineko no Naku Koro ni... Do NOT expect any answer to the Mystery you are going to see. You won't have any answer. Is this a Bad thing ?... It can be but, if you watched Higurashi before... by now, you should get it : This is how the Story is told ! So... Yes, i am telling you. After 26 episodes, you still won't get it.
What was great with Higurashi it's that even after 26 episodes, you had a little bit of the answer... not all of them but, still. AND... there's another season of Higurashi. Umineko don't
...
have any... and I'm not sure it's going to have one so... you will propably never have any answer to your questions. You will want those answer really bad tho !
And that's where the Sound Novel comes in !
Umineko is kind of 'like' Higurashi in the way the story is told. You will have the 'Question Arc'. Four of these. That's where the anime stop. Those are just... completely... Confusing.
For the Answer... you'll have to rely on the Sound Novel and that's not a bad thing because the Sound Novel is awesome.
- STORY
Let's be honest, Umineko is having a really original story also very complex and that's what's getting you into the story asking yourself all the question you should be asking yourself until the Answer Arc. The Anime failed at this part. To have a change to get the mysterie, you need details. You need to know the character. You need to know everything. Who's wearing the Golden Wing on his outfit ? Who isn't ? Who was where at this moment ? Who could have done this or that ? It's a Mystery and if Battler wants to say Beatrice isn't the culprit... he will definitly need a real culprit. Then... Who is it ?
Lots of thing were left behind making people misunderstanding that show. They sure had to cut stuff because they're so much more in the game but... maybe they tried to do that too much or cut the wrong stuff. I don't know.
I would have done 10 for sure in the Novel but since the anime screwed up it's going to be a 8.
- ART
I liked it. The Troll face were nice ( I'm thinking of Eva-Beatrice and Beatrice herself here, eheh! ) It's definitly not the Best Art i've seen but it was good. Really good if I think about the horrible art Higurashi had...
- SOUND
I have nothing to complain about the sound. They took the music from the Novel and put it into the anime and the Music in the Novel is good. It's not called a Sound Novel for nothing, eh ! The only thing I would complain about is that they put the song at some random moment at time but it wasn't out of place really it was just... different. I'm thinking about Mirage Coordinator. That song wasn't played at the Scene with Maria and her mother but it made the scene epic in the anime somehow.
- CHARACTERS
This is probably the place were everything went... an horrible way. In the anime, Battler looks like a Kid arguing about something he can see. He looks ridiculous even if some scene still show him the 'badass' way he actually is when he's all mighty in front of Beatrice. Then, he goes down to crying like a crybaby and it doesn't make any sense in the Anime when actually.. it does !
Let's make something clear right away...
This goal of Battler isn't to deny magic everywhere. It's just about denying magic at this moment on this island. He doesn't care about what's outside. He's not fighting for that. All he wants to show is that this could have been done by a human therefore he have to suspect someone ! Until then... Magic can exist at this moment in this island.
All of this wasn't made clear at all in the anime making people confusing about stuff they shouldn't be worrying about but instead use to understand.
Beatrice just looks like a Tsundere Girl it can be annoying at times and she looked maybe too kind at times.
And let's not talk about all of the relatives... None of them got enough air time to make the viewer understand them, know them and finally love them and reach Battler's issue : Being unable to believe one of his loved relatives killed the others !
- ENJOYEMENT
I don't know if that's just me but... I loved the show. I wanted it every week when it came out. I could watch the same episode twice and finally, it made me try to be able to play the Sound Novel.
Now... Let's talk about the Ending of the Show. I said before the ending wasn't suposse to, and isn't going to, answer any of your question. Actually the Ending of the anime feels like a joke. Everything ! All of it. That's where the lacks of character developpement couldn't help the ending at all so... it failed. I would recommend another ending if found on youtube. It was kind of Fan Made I think but it was awesome and really helped.
Anyway, I'll try to find it back. Tell me if you want the Link. It was much better and closer to the actual ending for the 4th Arc.
I hope this review won't scare you because you really should give it a try ! and if you like it... Maybe you could play the Novel !
I can garante you won't regret it.

If I was told : 'Hey, there's another season of Pandora Hearts' I would believe it...
I feel like something is still missing after 25 episodes. If I was to delete the few last episode from my mind and write this review, I would have been able put a way better score. I often say : When the Ending is bad the whole thing becomes bad. This 'rule' apply to Pandora Hearts. In fact... it's like it is made for this show.
Pandora Hearts had a lot of potential !
The First Episodes were mysterious and I had a lot of question on my mind. I have
...
to say many of them are still unanswered or I feel like the given answer is lame. [WATCH OUT FOR POSSIBLE SPOILER!] Oz sins was his very existence ? Why ?... Because his father never wanted him ? So he send him into Abyss ? And Also, he send him into Abyss because The Will wanted him ? Is that me or that's a lot of Coincidence !?![END OF POSSIBLE SPOILER] I was really disappointed and that's only one example of the Weird Answer. Somehow I feel like the 'Tragedy of Sabrie' is also REALLY Lacking. It was mysterious and interesting and that's a good thing but as a writer you have to answer the questions in the End. Pandora Hearts didn't.
I get the main idea... I think but I had to 'Guess' many of them from what we see. I would have like to know more in details what happened and more importantly, the WHY of those event. The Baskerville killed all those people following Glen's order but why ? Why did he order that in the first place ?
Maybe I should read the Manga but, seriously... Do I want to reach the same ending ?
The Ending was ridiculous. Was it the lack of a real enemy the whole time ? In the End, you reach a point where there's no real enemy and maybe that was the problem with the whole story. They couldn't find a way to end it so they ended it this lame way by making Oz's Father and his chain the 'Temporary' Bad Guy.
I still would 'recommend' it for the interesting plot but sadly it was rushed and the ending solve nothing at all. Oz say it, in the end. He said he would still search to 'solve' the mysteries. That's why I said, I would believe if someone told me there was another season. Sadly, there is no such thing and this... This was the Real Ending !
Therefore...
STORY:: 6
Moving on to the Art. This looked like some of the First Naruto Episode. I remember them... Do you ? They were 'OK' and it was years ago ! Pandora Hearts isn't that old and the Graphic are horrible. Some scene were good but other... they were horrible. I'm thinking of the Scene at the End where he sees 'Griffon' his father's Chains painting or something on the wall. He's all shocked staring at it. Seriously... His eyes are juste getting 'BIG - SMALL - BIG - SMALL' and his hair darker on his forehead. But Still, I can deal with a Style that look more 'Old' or 'Out of date'. That really isn't the thing that screw thing us for the Show.
Therefore...
ART:: 6
I have nothing to say against the Music. The Intro was good. The second ending felt a Little out of place but it was Ok. The show wasn't all dark either so it's ok. The Soundtrack were good. Kajiura Yuki's music is always good and was going great with the show. However, the song were nothing new. I remember the song from 'Mai-Hime' and they sound really similar. I feel like I can hear 'Mezame' everywhere in those almost. I think the only song from her that are slightly different are those in Xenosaga. But this review isn't about her music ! Eh-eh.
Therefore...
MUSIC:: 9
How can you make people love character they don't know and don't understand. I love Break and... Hey, that's the only Character we were given real answer with ! Oz is annoying. Nothing to say about him really. He's the main Character. He keeps saying that he doesn't care if he dies. Then why should I care ? Is he really important ? He doesn't get anything at all. To me he was just a selfish young boy. And, Good News everyone ! His Fate is still unsure cuz, he still have the Symbol on his chest and he will surely dies when it's full even if Gil helps him slowing the process down. Maybe, that something would have been something good to add in the ending or something...
Alice was a good character... until they made her do some totally random stuff. I get it she's suppose to be the Tsundere character but, seriously ?... Her character became ridiculous at time and then it's hard to take her seriously. Also, I wish her background would have been put to light more than that with Jack and eventually, leading to the whole Tragedy thing and then... To Oz. The pieces are still messed up for the story it's no different for the Character. Vincent and Gilbert are also totally in the darkness for me. To me, Vincent is still a murder. He killed Alice and asked the Will to save Gil and him and Gilbert doesn't care about what happened ? How did he get hurt like that anyway ? I wish we knew more about them. I felt like they were somehow important.
And the character that really needed more airtime... Glen ? and probably, The Will. They tried to make us think.. 'those are the bad guys' without giving us any real answer as 'Why ?' and then.. 'Why not ?' Glen is the Bad guy. He made the Tragedy happen. We barely know why we barely know what happened between Jack and him. Why calling Jack a Hero ? He died without doing nothing... no ?
I've read somewhere someone saying the Pandora Hearts has the best character development and all. Makes my day. I would have believe it but... The Ending rushed thing for the Character also and makes me still wonder stuff about them so no... The Character are incomplete as well.
Therefore...
CHARACTER:: 7
Did I enjoy Pandora Hearts ?... I did. Yes. I did. I was hooked. Every episode, I told myself that's the Last One for today and I still watched another one after ! Yes, I enjoyed it but as I was reaching the End, somehow... I wasn't that interested in it anymore. I would still recommend it... and I will probably add the Manga to my 'I want to read that..' List for some other time.
Therefore...
ENJOYMENT:: 8
However... The Rushed and Lame ending force me to throw...
OVERALL:: 7
Maybe I had expectation too high on the ending and got disappointed by my own fault...
Who knows !
