Ahh, Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru, another crappy CGDCT show, right? No.
What may at first glance seem like another run of the mill SoL is actually on deeper inspection a hidden gem, a unique anime in the sports genre that is both informative and humorous, a show that helps educate about the sport of bodybuilding, and takes you on a roller coaster of emotions as you root for high school girl Hibiki Sakura to put down the pizza and pick up the dumbell. Being a helpless glutton, Hibiki devours yummy foods like she’s got no time to waste and has as a result been gaining plenty

of weight, which motivates her to start going to her local Silverman Gym where she meets a couple of friends, all them being people with their own unique and silly personalities. Now if that didn’t entice you to watch, this show’s got it all- light hearted drama, balls-to-the-wall, knee-slapping, gut-busting comedy, top-tier, life changing fitness motivation- you name it this show’s got it! Surprisingly in this anime you can find really good advice about bodybuilding strategie, which is why I extra recommend this anime for you if you’re trying to lose weight.
Now, I can’t let you leave this review without warning you that this isn’t an anime that should really be watched with your family because it does contain quite a lot of fan service which can get uncomfortable at points. However, I actually watch this with my dad who enjoyed it a lot, and he's very into the gym, so he told me that the anime actually is very very accurate in its bodybuilding advice. He also thought the OP of the show was fantastic (I guess he is where I got my good taste from), and fun fact it's sung by the same voice actor who played Jolene in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Stone ocean, who is also the same voice actor for the main character of this anime.
If you want a show with an ending, this isn’t the show for you but you can check the manga out when you finish it. Last thing- I recommend the English dub. I watched both the English dub and the original Japanese with English subtitles, and I have to say that they are both funny, but all the jokes in the English dub are translated into the English culture and way of speaking so I found it funnier.
