Villainesses reincarnate into their past selves just before or after they are indicted for various crimes or evils in their worlds. They begin to lead a more generous and wiser way of living - and are then revered for such in their societies - in contrary to the wickedness and corruption they were known for previously. Runa and Mia's stories of growth coincide with an ever-evolving world surrounding them - politically, economically, and socially - tasking them to prominent roles in society in order to steer away from their, and the world's, future demise: Runa becoming an owner of a conglomerate in Modern Villainess, and Mia taking her position seriously as first-in-line to the throne in Tearmoon Empire. Runa and Mia tend to share similar personalities too, due to both sharing similar backgrounds and older mental ages than their physical selves. They show great wisdom and maturity amongst their peers, but also enjoy childish activities suitable to their reincarnations. While they are often seen as kind, Runa and Mia may still enjoy picking on others who annoy them and tarnish their names and those of their friends. Note that Modern Villainess explores more in depth the economic situation of Japan, Asia, and the rest of the world in the 1990s and early 2000s while interpreting important financial crises and events in a fictional lens, whereas Tearmoon Empire creates an entirely new world to dive into various topics, like monarchies, foreign relations, and similarly finances.

Vanitas no Karte

Main characters meet mysterious bookkeepers who possess a powerful grimoire (with a similar name of their own) capable of aiding vampires in Vanitas no Carte's case, or could seal away similar powers of its own, such is the case in Dantalian no Shoka. Set in similar time periods with a steampunk feel, the main cast embarks on a journey solving anomalies that appear. Dalian and Vanitas are also very expressive yet troublesome, which allows them to compliment the main characters well. As a plus, both anime share great music which fits the atmosphere superbly.

A struggle to learn the truth. Shiki and Shinrei Tantei Yakumo follow detectives who do their best to solve crime cases - often risking their own lives - cases which haunt their city or area. The two series have their horror-like environment. Both series are also somewhat episodic, though each episode leading towards a bigger situation in the series. The cases are based off of supernatural circumstances, with Shinrei Tantei Yakumo having a broader scope, while Shiki revolves around vampires. However Shiki takes this further and looks into the morals and beliefs of humans and vampires (often placing several characters in the spotlight), which makes it quite the unique vampire story.

Peace - a goal that the main cast from Princess Principal and Jormungand both share. The main characters from Princess Principal and Jormungand follow a powerful woman in order to make the woman's goal come true. Angelica's goal, being to dismantle the Wall that separates a fictional 20th century London in political turmoil to obtain peace in its country. Koko's goal is simply peace in a world dominated by tension and violence - as a gun dealer. They try to achieve this goal through the variety of missions they get, all being either violent or passive work. Jormungand deals with a lot of gun-related topics, often the guns being realistic to its real-life model. While in Princess Principal, it is mainly undercover and tailing work - staying true to espionage. These two series are also accompanied by great music composers which amp up the action scenes.

New Game!
add

Though New Game! does not focus on any romantic relationship compared to Saekano, the main cast in each of the two series are video game developers and go through the enjoyment and struggles of character design and software coding. As a side, the two series have some extra comedic scenes and may go off the main story every now and then. Another thing, the main cast of Saekano are all high school students, while those in New Game! range from high school graduates to professionals. So expect an office workplace (formal) in New Game!, compared to an informal environment like the school or the main character's house in Saekano. Saekano also adds a lot more drama due to relationships, which heavily influences the story especially later on in the 2nd season. New Game! has a bit of drama surrounding game developing, but not exactly comparable to the former. As an addition, both series have the same music composer who does a fantastic job in setting a mood and adding in any special touches the visuals would not often create.

In general, Non Non Biyori and Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge are very calming series, and both portray the iyashikei subgenre very well. Characters from these two series are often found doing whatever they feel like doing, and the atmosphere simply accompanies them throughout any situations they find themselves in. The friendships in these series are very friendly and warm, with Tanaka-kun ever-so slightly developing a romantic relation on the side. Non Non Biyori details well childhood/adolescence in a rural countryside, and Tanaka-kun in high school - always emphasizing the importance of friends and people you care and love. The music composer also works on both Non Non Biyori and Tanaka-kun, so expect the same comfy and cozy soundtrack in every episode.

Gamers!
add

The romance between gamers in these two series are quite similar. Despite Gamers! taking a much more shorter approach pre-love relationship compared to High Score Girl, they both delve into how friendship could turn into love between acquaintances in gaming. These two series also feature a love triangle, with the main characters as very knowledgeable in their games. In High Score Girl, the era is set in the 90s, specifically the "golden age of arcade video games" (so expect many retro game references), while Gamers! is set in the present time. To add, both series like to exaggerate and emphasize on situations throughout the story, which makes scenes quite melodramatic - that may or may not influence one's enjoyment in the series. High Score Girl especially makes creative use of video characters as a way to express emotions. Also, expect the animation of High Score Girl to be mainly done with CGI. Though it does it fine, so for those who have experienced CGI anime should be somewhat comfortable with this.

One would often find the comedy and the characters almost similar. From reserved to an outgoing main character, you will find these traits in the characters of Lucky Star and Joshiraku. These two series follow the daily lives of a primarily female cast. While Lucky Star is about high school students (and no, not elementary students) Joshiraku is centered among young adults as rakugo tellers. Often the discussions each of the characters have from both series are tied to Japanese literature, culture, tradition, or any of the sort. Note that the comedy in Lucky Star relies mainly from parodies of other series like Full Metal Panic! and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu (some of the original author's favourite series), while Joshiraku would be enjoyable for a larger audience.

Hyouka

Gosick and Hyouka follows two main characters in which the deuteragonist (in Hyouka's case, the protagonist) are both lazy and like to conserve energy while doing their own things. A fated encounter between both main characters lead them to tread upon several mysteries that they have to solve, whether they like it or not. While Gosick's mysteries are based around more serious crime cases and unsolved mysteries dating back decades around historical France, Hyouka follows a more slice-of-life approach and solves things in and around their high school area. Gosick also features a more developed romance, so for those who were unsatisfied with Hyouka's romance, look no further.

Tsurezure Children gives many personalities and different compatibility between young adolescences, while Kaguya-sama builds on a singular couple, both with amazing scenes and moments. Many situations and scenes in both series can change the atmosphere of confession or love, either for good or bad - resulting in a beginning of a relationship or never confessing or talking for a period of time.
