Both anime are obvious of the Mahou Shoujo category. The characters of each are granted Magical Powers from an alien in order to collect items scattered about the earth from an accident to their spaceship. The main MC's of both shows are quite similar in the sense of being passionate about others and their self confidence in their abilities. They cross paths with an antagonist that also wants to collect the items for their own purpose. Instead of battling with them out of spite, they begin to understand their motive, gaining sympathy and compassion for them, and intend to save these individuals from their situation. Both series have a bit of quirkiness to them but also take their story-telling seriously in well expressed narrative and character depth. They also have a pretty good soundtrack and art work. Recommend watching both shows. Main difference is Nanoha is more focused on it's intensity and seriousness of social issues and combat. Making it much more dramatic. Where as HnP takes a more subtle approach with the same type of issues and combat, plus it adds a focus on light romance. Bringing a bit of a lighthearted atmosphere.

Shinbo may not have had a part in the Nanoha movie. But he was the director of the original Nanoha TV series. Keizo Kusakawa was an understudy of Shinbo at the time, and then took over with the rest of the Nanoha series including these movies. Both anime introduce a unprecedented amount of maturity and violence to the Magical Girl genre. Madoka being written with an objective to shock and awe with a graphic nature and complex story, while Nanoha focuses on a more subtle approach of a mature emotional narrative and intense action. Nanoha Second A's continues the series with an even better showing than the first.

Flame Haze are basically Gods of Noragami. Both anime have two MC's. One who is a God/FH, and one who is a human. Both God/FH have a katana that is the spirit of a human, that they use to hunt demons, aka Ayakashi/Denizens. Yato gets into fights with other Gods they the same as Shana does with other Flame Haze. Both human MC's run into the God/FH and acquire a power that allows them see and interact with these other worldly spirits, and get caught up in the middle of the fights. Main difference between the two, is Noragami has terrible pacing, vague character development, plotholes, very little action, poor soundtrack, and horrendous out of place slapstick repetitive comedy. Where as Shakugan no Shana is actually good, has an incredibly fulfilling story, great characters that have purpose, great music, action, romance, suspense, and great twists that lead to a very thrilling conclusion.
