Until I was a highschool student I haven't watched a single anime and in my third year (2016) one of my friends said “You are an art student and you haven't watched anime before?” And he made me watch Tokyo ghoul. I've been a huge fan of anime since, and my favorite anime was Tokyo Ghoul until I saw an anime on netflix named “Beastars”.
I, personally, LOVE animal characters and movies like “Sing, Zootopia ect…” and I just thought I could give Beastars a shot so I started watching it.
First of all,
OH MY GOD.
I fell in
...
love even before the show started. The opening was just SO good!
When the anime began, I saw that it was 3D animation and first, it made me upset because guys… Have you ever watched Ajin? Man..What a horrible animation. Ajin’s anime is like “how to fuck a beautiful manga and a great story up”
So, at first I had prejudices in a bad way. But the moment characters showed up and Legoshi came to the screen I saw how 3D animation can be managed professionally. It looks SO real, and SO fluid that I found to watch the show so enjoyable.
The main character is a big gray wolf Legoshi, who is obviously a carnivore. Legoshi is actually a really dull, silent boy and hates to get into trouble. He always acts so polite to herbivores and tries to be gentle as much as he could be. Yet even though he tries hard, his nature is wild, and his look with his big, tall, masculan body is very frightening.
The second character is Haru, who is a tiny dwarf rabbit. Haru gets bullied by other bitches (sorry girls) and always alone. She thinks of herself as a helpless, lack of strength animal.
One night Legoshi feels a quite attractive scent at the garden and he finds himself where he loses his control and traps tiny Haru into his claws. As he tries to get his mind clear, Legoshi fights with the will to devour that little rabbit. By a great chance, one of the other students calls out Legoshi’s name and he lets the tiny rabbit escape from his arms.
The story starts with that strange moment between two different types of animal students. Legoshi’s complex feelings and desires he feels towards Haru confuses him big time. He just wouldn't be able to decide if he wants to devour her, or if he is in love with her.
I LOVE the word “desire” so much! I think it's one of the most strong feelings a human (or animals like Legoshi :) can have. Desire makes you begin to hate yourself for becoming so obsessed about someone and so wildly, in fact obscenely yet you can't talk about it to anyone because desire is something you don't easily talk about. It's basically embarrassing, Vile, that sometimes you can't even reveal it to yourself either. And that's exactly what happened to Legoshi. He loathed himself for being obsessed about his schoolmate Haru. It's fascinating, all this absurdity that goes in Legosh’s head when he desires Haru yet still doesn't have the courage to come out and say so. And it's so troubling that he be like; “Should I speak or should I not speak?. What if I say hi? No I shouldn't, it's weird. Should I ask her name? Should I ask her out?”
And I LOVE how a huge animal like Legoshi is this cute and hysterical. When I remember the scene when Haru tries to get laid with Legoshi and the way Legoshi runs his way out from Haru’s cabinet was So cute!!! I fell in love with his character right away!
Though I love this show so much, I just can't love Haru :7 Because she is, in my opinion, a character who hurts Legoshi’s feelings oftenly. I'm watching season 2 right now and she still can't figure out if she still loves Louis or likes Legoshi, like… C'mon gurl! Make up your mind already!
You may think “How can someone score an anime 10 out of 10 in every category. Well I did! Because Beastars was an anime I've been looking for. The music, the art, the character, the plot… Just perfect. And when I finished the season one I was like, “fuck! I bet season 2 will be bad because it can't be better than this”. But people… Beastars season 2 shows you that it can!
If you haven't watched Beastars yet, go start right now because you will not regret <3
Peace out.
