Both are based on similar games (in fact, there was even a crossover game for the 3DS). Both are best enjoyed with previous knowledge of the main series, but can act as the entry point for their franchises. The Layton movie is definitely better as a stand-alone anime product, but fans of the originals will really appreciate seeing these characters in full anime. Some of the similarities between series are as follows: -Main character being very good at solving mysteries. -Co-protagonist for both series being a younger kid/teen who admires the protagonist in some way, and who follows them literally everywhere. -Plots based on mysteries (I think it was obvious) with logic-based and mostly well-written solutions and plot points. -Based off of visual novel-like game series from the Nintendo DS and 3DS.

They are both videogame adaptations that alter their sources' plot in order to best fit a 12 episode, low budget TV show. Their quality is similar, though that isn't necessarily a good thing, but should be a fun distraction to those who enjoyed playing the original RPG's. However, please do NOT watch them if you have ANY INTENTION of playing the games after completing the TV show. They are vastly superior in quality, but the anime could ruin important plot points from the games. So, only watch these if you have already played the games of have no intention of doing so in the near future.

Yakusoku no Neverland 2nd Season

Both are great examples on how to ruin an otherwise pretty good (in TPN manga's case) or outright top-tier (C;C visual novel) stories and turn them into inexplicably bad, cringe-worthy and rushed pieces of "entertainment" whose only value ends up being the decent animation. Chaos;Child anime is still way better than Promised Neverland season 2, in my humble opinion, but the letdown when compared to the source is comparable. The openings are both good, so that's that. I don't think I need to say this, none of the above applies to TPN season one at all.
