After being introduced to studio Gainax and their work, I became excited to see this anime. Since it is probably the highest ranking Gainax anime and I wanted to see why it deserved that ranking.
At first I thought it had an over the top story but had a deep hidden meaning behind it (like FLCL). But then I finished it and most people say that it is just as over the top and nothing more. But I think it was more meaning.
Story:
The story of TTGL (Yes, I write it like this. I don't want to write the whole name every time) strats really simply, but
...
slowly it keeps growing in this insane epic chaotic adventure. You can compare it to a drill in some way (small at the beginning and slowly becomes bigger). The story has themes like friendship and 'never giving up!!' and those who have watched enough shonen can understand that these aren't the most unique concepts and can feel very cliché. But TTGL gives the theme an twist to were it really became a story that motivates people. If you want to motivate someone then let them watch some of this anime.
Also the construction of the story is very different. Parts of the story that you usually expect to happen at the end of a series, can already happen when only a handful of episodes have been watched. That is what makes TTGL also unpredictable and makes you excited to see what will happen next.
Characters:
Characters in TTGL are very lovable and colorful. Every person is great in their own way and the characters that you first don't seem to like will develop later in big badasses or at least cool characters.
Even in a show about being as over the top as possible (I can't emphasize that enough) the character still feel very real and you can relate with a lot of them. That is a strong point in this anime.
Art:
Most anime show the typical art style that modern anime is known for. Real slick lines and fluid animation, but some series want to show they're different. TTGL is like that. At epic moments that you expect insane animation you get very dynamic with lines that look like they were made with brushes.
All with all I like the series and if you want a show that makes you feel motivated and make you think you can do the impossible, then this is your show!!!

Hunter x Hunter (2011) is one of the greates pieces of (shonen)anime I've ever witnessed. I feel bad that I had it on hold for so long. But luckily when I strated to continue watching it I got pulled into the World of Hunters!
Story:
The main goal is very solid and easy to understand. It is the journey towards that goal that counts the most. Gon and his friend Killua travel across the world to find Gon's father, but along the way they find new friends, enemies, troubles and above all: An new adventure!
Also this show has the most interesting and varying arcs I've ever seen.
...
From one arc to the other you end up in a crime-thriller arc or a video game arc or a epic war between two different species. The arcs never seem the same of boring and still it is part of the same main goal that the series is all about.
Art:
For those that are familiar with the art of the HxH manga know that the art in there sometimes sucks. It is sometimes even comparable with a concept sketch. But as bad as the art sometimes is, so beautiful is the art and animation in the anime. Never seems the art to disappiont.
Character:
The amount of characters in HxH are big but this is in my opinion a good thing. The characters have creative powers, unique designs and really fleshed out. Every character could be the center point of a new arc and it would be awesome to see. Even if it would be minor characters that usually don't get any spotlight. That's when you know you have great characters. Still wished more cool characters got the spotlight they deserved.
Overall the story is as close to perfect as perfect can be and achieves more in 148 episodes then most shonen are able to get after 400+ episodes. Also, the music/OST is phenomenal. The opening is super motivating and catchy. It is also one of the few japanese songs I can sing completely. The endings are really beautiful and bring you feels after an episode has ended. The OST is just as amazing and I would really recommend to buy it if you can. It is just that great!
The manga hasn't ended yet (and won't end any time soon because of hiatus) but the point where the anime ended couldn't be a more perfect moment to end the series on. I think that if this all we will when it comes to the anime, then I can live with that.

Ansatsu Kyoushitsu aka Assassination Classroom aka AssClass (my personal abbreviation) is one of the most unique shonen series that I've ever read/seen.
Not many long-running series have the courage to be so short and STAY short. Many stories suffer under the rule that they have to be strecthed out as far as possible but AssClass shows that the short stories can be just enough and still impactful.
As a person who gets easily attracted to stories with a random synopsis I was immediately hooked with this. I mean where do you find a story about a octopus teacher who runs a class of assasins who have
...
to kill him. But later I saw the bigger picture behind the tentacle jokes and random premise.
Story:
The story of assasination shows that every story can be a good story no matter how weird it may sound. This is a manga that you shouldn't judge by its manga cover. Not only does the beginning show exactly what the story is about, it also stays with it and doesn't write itself into a corner to end up like a 600 chapter manga with plotholes as big as the moon. No, AssClass knows what the end goal is and keeps working towards that goal.
Art:
The art in AssClass is in most moments okay. When not much is going on the art isn't really something to talk about but when important come about, then it's when the art shines! The mangaka was able to make boring moments like: 'making a test' fascinating for the reader by depicting it like a big gladiator fight or something like that. Or make someone look very intimidating by making him/her look like a terrifying monster. It is this approach of drawing visuals that makes the art something else from other shonen manga.
Character:
This series centers around a class and this class has many different students. 28 to be exact. For any story, especially a story this short you could think that it is very hard to give all of these characters the characterization and develop that they need, but AssClass shows that it is not afraid to try it. Of course some character get more attention then others but at the end you can know the names, talents and characteristics of all students if you want to. Also Koro-sensei is one of the best characters in the show and makes you wish teachers in real life could become big yellow octopuses
Overall, this manga is a shonen that, after not even a year has won my heart. The story is mostly a comedy but knows when to grab at your heart strings. The foreshadowing in the plot is insane and really shows that the creator knew the story that he wanted to tell in his head. Also the ending is the most fitting kind of ending for a coming-of-age story like this. It couldn't be any better in my opinion.

An ironic fact about 'Deadman Wonderland' when I was reading the manga, was that I was reading the manga of 'Elfen Lied'. The reason that I think this was ironic, is because certain things in these two series look similar:
- The gore (Elfen Lied perhaps a little bit more.)
- They have both a protagonist who come in contact with a girl with a split personality.
- There is a power and its users are seen as monsters.
- Also the boy protagonists were childhood friends with the girl protagonist but later don't seem to remember them.
Then starting with the 'Story'.
I think the story is original. It
...
had my attention all the way to the ending. The 'second' part of the manga in which the situation change when it comes to the villian, but it didn't change the enjoyment for me.
The 'Art' of the story is dark and detailed what is really necessarily for a manga that users gore. The black and toners in the panels really make the situations in the story darker.
The 'Characters' of the series are all unique in their own way. Especially the deadman and other supporting characters all get their background stories. Also it shows how the characters develop/change during the course of the series. Every character, whether they are the protagonists or antagonists, has its unique personalities.
Then I liked the fact that the story has forms of symbolism and the references to other known stories. Also the ability that people in this story use is basically the same, but is used in different ways.
I think the manga has sort of a open ending, but at the same time it doesn't. Still the ending was good for me.

When I first heard of Elfen Lied I knew two things about: 'Nudity and Gore' and that was before I even started watching the anime. After I watched the 12-episode anime, I continued with the manga.
The 'story' is special because it goes about a new species, except for that they are using an already existing species/kind of people like ninja's, pirates, demons, etc. The Diclonius and their powers are unique. Something that I haven't seen in another anime/manga before. The story of the manga shocked me, made me emotional and took my interest all the way until the end.
The 'art' of Elfen Lied is
...
nothing special. It has its own drawing style, but that style wasn't really that special for me. I don't say that the art is bad, but it's not really that detailed or has any special thing to mention. I will not remember the manga for its art, but for its good story.
The 'characters' of Elfen Lied are very different for each other, what I like. But for a series that is famous for its gore, you can expect that some (favourite) characters can die. That isn't really my problem, but the nudity -part of it and the characters around that. I mean with this the 'pairings' that come and go in Elfen Lied. For example Elfen Lied has pairings, or certain situations, that include incest or pedophilia. Not sex but kissing and intimite moments that made me feel uncomfortable. Every character has good development during the manga and gets good closure.
After finishing the manga I had no regret of reading it. I became emotional for the ending and even more when I heard the ending of the anime on my smartphone. I have some questions about how some characters could return at the end and the 'happy ending'. It is a combination between a sad and happy ending, but I liked it!
The manga maybe have its flaws like the art, the disturbing pairings, but overall I like the story!
