This is the most underrated show of the season. The world in which the story takes place is a world covered in a "snow sea" which true to the name looks like snow at the surface and behaves much like an ocean. The giant spire trees cover the world with a transparent canopy and provide societies with water, but for some reason they're drying up and those on the surface are warring against eachother over the scarce resource that water has become. The main character, Kaina, lives in a tiny village isolated from the rest of the world at the top of one of the
...
spire trees. When a princess from the surface narrowly escapes death by fleeing to the canopy, Kaina becomes involved in the ongoing conflict. It's a fantastic story which avoids most of the usual anime tropes while introducing an incredible new world as the characters struggle to bring an end to the conflict. If you're looking for something unique, love detailed worldbuilding, unusual characters, and underdog stories, then this anime is for you. If you can't handle 3D animation, sorry to say that this anime is fully 3D. The opening and ending songs are also fantastic.

This is a show that touches on several controversial issues, including rape, polyamory, and torture. Most people who love it seem to love it because of the controversy while those who hate it seem to hate it because of the explicitness or dark themes. If you get over both, you're left with a story about a slave who broke free from his captors, obtained extraordinary powers, and uses those powers to exact his revenge and enjoy life's pleasures. The main character Keyaru is intentionally portrayed neither as a good guy nor a bad guy. He's just a person with a goal, and he's willing to
...
do anything to attain it, though he frequently seems to question his own motivations. Frequently there's a situation where it seems that the objective should be to help people, but even then the goal of revenge reigns supreme. Anyone who is saved by Keyaru is merely coincidence. He's a great anti-hero. Beyond that simple basis, a lot of the themes are fairly cookie-cutter. There's a human kingdom which is oppressing the demi-humans. Magic is left vague, but the powers used by each character remain fairly consistent. The characters' motivations are sometimes used to good effect and sometimes seem like an afterthought. Overall, it's a fairly good show if you're into isekai and don't mind a bit of traumatic themes or hentai scenes, which is why I rate it a 6.

There's a reason that the world exists in its current state, a reason that each character acts the way they do, and a reason for the protagonist's problems, and knowing that reason can provide the solutions to the problems which are presented both to the characters and to the viewer. This idea summarizes season 2 of Re:Zero very well.
The first season of Re:Zero introduced many of the themes which are important to the second season. However, it fell into the same pitfall as Evangelion, where traumatic events are actually traumatic and lead to unhappy characters that make the show frustrating to watch. Psychologically accurate, but
...
not entertaining. The second season managed to largely break free of the grim-dark psychology pitfall. Instead, it focused mostly on character development and a bit of worldbuilding. For some, flashbacks that explain a character's motivations slow down the story too much and they're left impatiently waiting for the main plot to resume. For others, it provides a depth of reason behind the world, characters, and problems, which is often entirely missing from entertainment. This season spent a large amount of time telling each character's backstory, and within each backstory is more information about the world and how it got to its current state. For a casual viewer, being presented with a puzzle isn't their cup of tea, but for someone like me, it's hard to find anything of such high caliber in this department.
That said, a few issues still existed, such as Subaru's ability to magically know things which were only explained to the viewer, or his sudden aptitude for magic without any extra training. Having not read the source material myself, I can't say if these issues are in the source material or just the anime, but I suspect it's the result of eschewing things to make the anime feel more like a normal magic-and-friendship isekai. The feeling of impending doom continued in this season, but Subaru is much better equipped to deal with it and it doesn't override the events of the main plot as it did in the first season, giving it a fairly serious tone which isn't for everyone.
Of the many merits of this show, I found its portrayal of long-lived characters to be of particular note. Characters such as Puck, Betty, and the Witch are all given a certain aura of depth which is shown in their diverse reactions to various scenarios. They're characters who already know exactly what they're going to do in any given scenario, whereas younger characters such as Garf make things up as they go and are much more volatile. It can be very difficult to make age into anything more than a number when writing fiction, so the fact that the age of each character is so well portrayed in their actions is particularly impressive to me.
TL;DR: Great character development and worldbuilding, but a serious atmosphere and less action than your average anime. I like all of those things, so I think it's very good.

How much charisma can fit in one body? This is the question "Sakamoto Desu ga?" seeks to answer. It's very obviously not written with the intent of being a cohesive story, creating an interesting fictional world, or following the story of characters as they evolve through their adventures. This show is all about making jokes with Sakamoto's impossibly perfect charisma as the punchline. It does this single thing very well and I enjoyed every episode. However, as with all running jokes, it does get old after a while. One season is plenty of time for that to happen. By episode 8 or so I knew
...
what to expect and while I did enjoy the remaining episodes, they left something to be desired. I would file this one under "it's worth watching merely for its uniqueness". It's a fun show which is proficiently written and artistically up to par, which is why I rate it 6/10.

I didn't realize I was watching a shoujo anime when I started watching this. "3D Kanojo" makes it sound like it was written by some socially inept otaku guy who can't get a date. It wound up following the same path as other shoujo anime in that the relationship advances fairly quickly and the majority of the show is about love problems. However, it didn't follow through like other shows. The relationship starts up and moves forward, but it basically plateaus for the rest of the show without any major developments. The interpersonal relationships are relatively simple and the problems encountered by the characters are
...
often pretty easy to solve, but every character seems to lack initiative or intuition, so it's easy to get irritated with the characters and story. Parts of the show such as the character's motivations and reactions are somewhat difficult to believe on occasion, but nothing stands out as blatantly unrealistic. All-in-all, it's not a bad show, but I wouldn't call it particularly good either. Thus, I give it a rating of 5. As a shoujo anime, I definitely have a slight negative bias since I'm not the intended audience, but I can still appreciate good writing when I see it and the writing in this show was somewhat mediocre.
As for the technical aspects, the art was pretty good, but it was occasionally difficult to tell which character you were looking at due to similar-looking characters. The music was typical for a shoujo, which means I didn't like it, but it wasn't actually bad by any means. The voice for Itou in particular felt overdone, like they were trying desperately to make him a complete shota character and sacrificed voice quality for it. These aspects can break a show if done poorly and can be the best selling point if done well. For this show, they were up to par, but not so extravagant that they should really boost the rating, which is why my score of 5 is based almost entirely on the story aspect.

Incest stuff can be interesting. This one is not. The characters aren't believable in the slightest. There's no storyline to speak of. The art is sub-par. This anime has only 2 selling points: it's occasionally funny and there's a lot of fanservice. So, for each thing it didn't completely fail at, I gave it a point (pretty generous really). That said, I did watch the whole thing, so it's not so bad that I had to drop it immediately. If you're looking for something mindless to stare at, it works well enough.
More specifically on the characters, the main character is portrayed as an irredeemable perv
...
who does nothing but look at porn, beg his mom for money, and generally gets dragged around by randos. His sister is, for some reason, totally obsessed with him and constantly tries to make him fall for her. But at the same time, she seems to be perfectly fine with him falling into romantic situations with other women. One such other woman is a "childhood friend" who stalks him and acts as if he's her lover (for some stupid reason). As new characters are introduced, old characters just kind of exist in the background and don't react to the situation until it's convenient for the writer. It's really just bad writing with panty-shots, so if that's your thing, enjoy.

Since this show is still airing, I can't speak to it in its entirety, but I did watch 6 episodes, and that was enough for me. This show has good artwork and some hilarious one-liners. Beyond that, there's not much to be found here. The characters as just cookie-cutter stereotypes with no real motivations or thought processes. The setting is a school which is divided in two based on which main character each person is affiliated with. The plot is just a bunch of random events, such as a sports festival, where the characters are somehow thrown into conflict, where they obediently stay, using whatever
...
excuse necessary to avoid actually solving the problem at hand until the appointed time. In short, it's just lazy writing with a few good jokes thrown in on occasion.

What started as a typical gamer isekai story has become one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. Even in season one, this show impressed me by how it implemented an internally consistent magic system, where there's none of the "I surpassed my maximum power" nonsense. The strategies used in battle and the negotiation tactics implemented create very realistic situations which are difficult to produce in fiction. With much of the story focusing on side characters who lived in the world before Ains Ooal Gown appeared, it crafts an image of what the world is like before, during, and after its encounters with Ains Ooal
...
Gown. With each decision made by Ains Ooal Gown, we're introduced to questions. Are the people in this world NPC's or humans, deserving of rights? Is it wrong to subjugate people by force if the ruler will rule justly? How can you appear just while also appearing strong and uncompromising? And, with no ultimately defined goal, how would you act with near-infinite power? These questions arise naturally within the world, and this fact makes the story believable and immersive in a way that I've rarely seen. This rareness of depth is why I determined that the show deserves a full 10/10 score (a score I don't give lightly). Clearly a lot of time and care went into the creation of this world and story.

I'm not very good at writing reviews, but I figured this anime deserved some acknowledgement. Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou was a serious breath of fresh air in the world of anime. There are so many anime that rely on eroticism, cookie-cutter characters, relationship problems, etc., but this one didn't follow any of those expected trends. Every episode of this show is light-hearted and leaves you satisfied, making you want to savor it more than simply get to the next plot point. All of the characters have their own unique driving attributes, giving the show more depth and intrigue. With most anime of this length, the
...
ending feels like a rush to the end in order to leave the viewers somewhat accepting of the ending. This anime didn't rush or try to resolve everything last minute, but rather continued at its natural rate of growth, and it also somehow doesn't make you feel like you're left hanging. I'm definitely going to be picking up the manga after this little taste because I can't get enough of this. Would definitely recommend this anime, 10/10.

I kept seeing posts of Date A Live and I thought the artwork and costume design was fantastic, so I decided to watch it. After a couple of episodes, I realized that unfortunately, the artwork was about the only thing going for the show. So, with that in mind, I watched the rest and got about what I expected. While the storyline had its moments that were humorous and enjoyable, overall, it was just disappointing. If you enjoy a good fight scene with special powers, this show has a few of those, but for the people who want a good, thick plot (not the kind
...
you pervs think of), this show probably isn't for you. If you're a romcom lover, this show has aspects of it, but it's really more of a harem since most of the show is about how to lead girls on. Granted, the second season isn't out, so it could yet pick up the pace and get better, but as it stands, I'm giving this show a 6 out of 10.
