Girls und Panzer is definitely a show that cannot be described with words. An anime that takes itself way too seriously for its very simplistic plot, weird and wacky situations that the characters in the show don't even bat an eye about, and finally the overly detailed tanks and abundance of historical references spread throughout the show. GuP stands out for how it just doesn't give a crap about anything. Girls drive WWII-era tanks and shoot live ammunition at other girls in WWII tanks, check. Tanks shooting other tanks has officially become a sport, check. A cast of bland, cliched yet endearing, and charming characters, ... check. Said characters live on aircraft carriers, check. Each character is based on a stereotypical view of their country based on their tank, check. A plot that could rival any average isekai anime, check. Nothing in the show makes any sense and I love it. If you are an absolute history buff, like I am, give this show a watch. Every time I watch GuP I notice something new and interesting that relates to some historical event. But where GuP shines most is its comedy. GuP portrays each character as a stereotype of their country, the Italians are incompetent and love food, and the German school is serious and cold-blooded, the American school is rich and likes to cheat. These are just some examples of how GuP makes fun of each major country that fought in WWII. Watch this show, you won't regret it. And better yet, the movie and das finale are even better. Watch it, just watch it, you'll thank me later.

Ah Clannad, a story lauded by many, but fails in so many aspects (mind you this review is only on Clannad itself not Clannad: After Story which I consider to be a near masterpiece). Clannad follows the trials and tribulations of your stereotypical high school boy. Tomoya, the main character of this show, is quiet, moody, and has daddy issues. Throughout the run of the show, Tomoya goes around solving other girls problems for them. Now the biggest issue I have with Clannad is not Tomoya or Nagisa, the other main lead, but almost all of the other side characters. Clannad sets itself up as ... a cliched harem anime with each of the girls Tomoya helps being something that would please the male viewer. Take for example the first girl Tomoya helps, Fuko. She's basically a loli. No question about it and it absolutely infuriated me. She was so darn annoying that I almost quit Clannad. Her voice, her mannerisms, it all screamed typical fanservice anime and I hated it. But thankfully, the show improves just a little bit. The other girls that Tomoya helps are extremely basic, stereotypical anime girls that have some stupid, contrived backstory. The one thing that Clannad gets right though, is the message it gives its viewers after each arc. Clannad continuously tells its viewers how important a strong, healthy family is and shows the consequences of a broken family. That probably is the best part of Clannad. Now you may be wondering why I gave this show a 7, well the art is absolutely fantastic and soundtrack is pretty good as well. But the saving grace of Clannad is the relationship between Tomoya and Nagisa. While Nagisa does have her own problems, being bit of a flat character and doesn't really get any major character development, just seeing how Nagisa interacts and encourages Tomoya brings a smile to my face every time. And Tomoya gets better over the course of the anime, showing more depth as a character. I would say the best parts of Clannad are probably the last several episodes where the show really focuses in on Tomoya and Nagisa. Oh and of course, Akio, who can forget how much of a chad he is. Also, the side characters are more enjoyable to watch after their arcs are over and seeing how the entire group interacts with each other feels organic and fleshed out. Overall I would say that Clannad is barely watchable and the only reason why you should even consider watching this show is so that you can watch Clannad: After Story. Clannad fails in most every aspect but makes up for it in beautiful art, an excellent soundtrack, and a charming relationship between Nagisa and Tomoya that gets even better in After Story.
