Since everyone wants to walk on eggshells about what's good and what's not, let me be the one to say this - stop going into shows like this expecting something more than what the title is giving you. This show is as generic as they come for isekais, so if you hate anything about either of those two words - stay away completely. I repeat, stay away.
Now that the riff raff is gone, let me speak to those like me, who will be willing to watch anything as long as it is ENTERTAINING. This show...is entertaining. It gives you plenty of plot points that
...
would hook almost anybody, considering you want to see what the mc will get up in this isekai world, while also having to deal with his classmates. I personally really enjoy the concept of having an entire class of students being isekai'd, but most of the ones I have seen tend to fall flat, completely. However, this is one of the few, if anything - one of the two (Failure Frame being the other one...somewhat), that works pretty well.
Does the MC get away with a lot of things just because he is the MC? Yes. Are the fights innovative or revolutionary like most shonen animes? Absolutely not.
Will you still have a good time if you just sit down and watch it, without paying attention to bad reviews? I am pretty sure you will. So give it a try.
Tip: It got good for me by the second episode personally, so I recommend at least watching till the end of the second episode. If you don't like it...then toss it away.

Maaaan what a banger of a show. If you're like me, you would have been both intrigued by the premise but also turned off because the concept of a suicidal main character in an isekai doesn't seem like much of a fun experience....and you and I would both be VERY wrong. The comedy hits every time, the animation is smooth and very appealing for the eyes, and the story is so damn good for an isekai it's actually insane. The backstories of the other worlders, the dialogue with Sensei and the others, the character development for the main character's crew, it all fits in so
...
well with everything.
For a season of anime that I thought would be boring, there have seriously been a lot of unexpected hits rather than misses, and here's to hoping this trend continues.
(They better make a season 2 for this...)

I'll be real, and I doubt I'm the only one that feels this way, but this anime took me by surprise by a great margin in regards to my initial expectation. The character designs were probably the main reason I was put off at first (and you'll see that complaint on the internet many times, not just from me), but simply one episode later and I realized how interesting the premise of the show actually is.
My favorite parts about the anime were definitely the characters and the comedy. The timing of the jokes were almost always home runs in my book, and the character
...
interactions make me truly enjoy every second of the show. No boring episodes, great comedy, great characters, great fights...what more do you want?
Also, the animation is very impressive, as the fight scenes come across so fluid instead of rigid and dull. The animation studio behind this really showed their skill on this one, I definitely recommend it.

Shangri-La Frontier is not the most revolutionary anime out there, as the story is based on a game in which plenty of people are playing. Think of Sword Art Online and Aincrad, or Log Horizon and Elder Tale. However, this anime doesn't force the characters into a fight-or-die isekai situation. Regardless, the lore of the game itself is what really captivates you, even more so than that of its counterparts. There tons of interesting places that the characters explore, tons of interesting creatures that the characters either fight or connect with, tons of items that help to develop the characters in the game, and tons
...
of storylines within the game that the characters seek to resolve.
Worldbuilding (9.5/10):
Genuinely one of my favorite things about this anime is how captivated I am on the lore of the worldbuilding for the game. I typically do not care much about worldbuilding within stories as I often feel that authors get carried away with the worldbuilding and do not focus enough on the development of the story/characters. But that flies out the window with this anime as it forces you to focus on the worldbuilding, due to it being the most lore driven element of the game. The vast amount of towns/cities, kingdoms, forests, and all sorts of areas gives you the feeling that the author of the story really could have been a revolutionary game designer, if not a mangaka. I truly felt like I wanted to join the game myself. And I don't even play games. THAT...is how good this anime's worldbuilding is.
Story (8/10):
I can't say the story is necessarily the most intriguing part of the anime as it's just based on the main characters and his friends levelling up within a popular video game in Japan, but it still a relatively easy story to follow because of it. I would say that the story is simple, but stretched out enough; as the main plot points focus on the main character's fights against the top tier bosses of the game, as well as uncovering the depths of the game's lore. Everything in between is for the sake of development, whether it be the development of Sunraku's skills or the development of the relationships he makes with the npcs/fellow gamers. It's a fun story, and I think that's why it became such a popular anime throughout its run.
Characters (9.6/10):
You will definitely fall in love with the cast of characters in this show. Sunraku's thirst for beating the odds is what makes him an interesting main character. Pencil-gon's rough but mysterious edge makes her an interesting character that adds a lot of the story. Katzo's competitiveness adds to the trio of gamers that you will be sure to root for and pay the most attention to. Of course, the comedy elements provided by dear Emul make the show 10x better, especially when you consider her loyalty and support to Sunraku's desires. There is even a romantic subtext there with Sunraku and his classmate that also games in Shangri-La Frontier, which sweetens the deal for me personally. All in all, I'd say my favorite aspect of the show was just following along with what the characters were doing within the game, as it felt like I myself was involved as well.
Animation (9.2/10):
My final point will be based on the animation....
It's beautiful man. Very, very beautiful. Give it a watch.
That is all I have to say. Whether you're a fan of VRMMO games or not, watch Shangri-La Frontier!! You'll enjoy it, I promise! (if you don't, then forget I said anything, thanks.)

I have to admit, this season was definitely great, but also very overhyped that it sort of leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The series is evolving bit by bit as this season helped to bring things into perspective, as far as how the world of sorcerers and curses are interpreted in this version of Japan; but I still can't help but feel that the writing itself is severely lacking in terms of storytelling. It's just....fights. Let me break it down a bit:
Hidden Inventory Arc - 9/10
This part of the season was easily the best, as it matched actual storytelling with the hype/conflict that
...
JJK fans love to talk about. It adapts the brief history of Gojo Satoru and a mission he goes on with his best friend Geto, and the conflict is told specifically through the story telling rather than just pitting randoms against each other....oh, speaking of which ->
Shibuya Incident - 7/10
This part of the season was easily the most hyped up, and the ratings on different platforms like IMDB illustrate that. Let me stress this first - I liked it. I enjoyed it. BUT... i expected a lot more. JJK manga readers have hyped up this arc for the past year, so of course I was going to expect a lot. The beginning of this arc gave me even more reason to believe it was going to be some epic tale of war and conflict between the opposing sides of the Jujutsu world, but it just didn't happen. It felt more like an epic amount of shock factors piled into parts where story telling could have been added. Almost like filling up your dish with spices but leaving out so much of the meat. This is also the reason why the 'skulls' didn't move me, it didn't feel like a reward to the characters for trying or a satisfying conclusion to character arcs, it just felt like the author wanted to catch his audience by surprise. It was constant fighting, over and over and over again, which I would have found more enjoyable if the shock factors themselves felt more epic or rewarding. I don't want to call it lazy writing because I don't think I have any right to say something like that to a globally achieved author like Gege Akutami, but I was just expecting...more.
I still think everyone should watch this season because JJK is a great animanga, this is just me wanting to express my slight disappoint for one of my favourite new gen animangas. Perhaps its more to do with having too great of expectations for this arc, especially since I'm a Shonen fanboy that loves fights just as much as the next man; but all in all, I still feel it was an enjjoyable season. I'm looking forward to the Culling games, and hopefully I can come back with a more satisfied feeling.

"I'm going to be the King of the Pirates and find the One Piece!" -Monkey D. Luffy....
*goes on to never actually TRY to find the One Piece, and instead parties and goofs off in every arc possible. In fact, the only person in the crew searching for the literal title of the show is Nico Robin (best girl by the way).*
Like many shows, One Piece has its good qualities and its bad ones...unfortunately, the bad qualities of this show heavily outweigh the good ones in my personal experience. Let's talk about the good qualities first:
WorldBuilding (great):
One Piece has one of the most intrisic worlds
...
in animanga, and is not afraid to show it off. Oda-sensei did a fantastic job with his worldbuilding, although...he kind of has to considering it is a series focused on the adventure and journey.
9/10
That's it. That's the only good quality I could find. Now let's get into the rest:
Characters (mixed):
Characters are the biggest mechanism for a story to progress, and One Piece often fails to impress with its cast of characters. The main crew lacks any real character development outside of levelling up in power, and are only each given a sad backstory to satisfy the mark of attachment that readers and watchers can attain. After their backstory, they don't grow at all. They just have the same personality and quirks that we already saw from them in the beginning. The main character being stupid isn't new, but the level of stupidity he has is far too much that it isn't even funny. The comedy from the characters feels like it was written by a five-year old that goes around telling the same jokes because one person laughed at it before. The art style of the characters is "unique", but appalling to look at. Like seriously, what is up with their designs?! All in all, the characters are not terrible...but....to each their own I guess.
4/10
Pacing (horrendous):
Lawd gawd, where do I begin with this one. Never in my years have I ever watched something so slowly paced to the point that i would dose off in the middle of the day....even if I genuinely HATE taking naps! This anime's pacing is BY FAR its biggest issue, as it takes filler material and adds it to the canon episodes instead of just leaving filler episodes seperate like Bleach and Naruto. If something like a shock factor happens, it will take years for Toei Animation to milk all of the reactions as much as possible from the people seeing it unfold, until finally deciding to carry on with the plot. On top of that, there are always tons of minutes allocated to recaps, making up for at least 5 minutes every damn time. I can understand that it is a weekly show, and that they do not want to catch up to the manga so that they can still have space to breathe...but enough is enough, they are simply ruining the show. You know it is bad when your show's fanbase has to literally create a seperate website where they fix the anime's pacing issues (onepace is the website I am speaking of by the way).
0/10, and that's being kind.
Story (boring as hell):
I'm sorry, but this story is boring as all hell. Luffy screams he want to be the pirate king once every 200 hundred episodes to the point that I forget that's even the point of the show. Majority of the time I keep assuming he just wants to party and goof off with his friends. He doesn't even give you a reason to follow him on his journey, he just screams and screams and people seem to love it. Naruto wants to become the hokage to earn people's respect, Asta wants to become the wizard king to prove people wrong, Luffy wants to become the pirate King because....when his brother/mentor talked about he thought it sounded cool. Wow. How inspiring.
The arcs are repetive, it's just about the Straw Hats going to a random island, getting split up because...who even knows, Luffy encounters a princess or damsel in distress, Luffy fights the bad guy and loses, plot armor saves him, he comes back like a hero accompanied by his crew and he beats the bad guy while his crew beats the side villains. After saving the island, he jumps around like an idiot, eats meat, takes some treasure, and then leaves. Sound familiar? Yes...because it's the most basic plot structure you can ever find in a story. Not every arc is the same, but even the ones that are different end up being stupid as all hell. Such as Marineford where all of the pirates come to save one idiot that ends up forsaking all of their efforts just because of a "yo daddy" joke. The plot is HEAVILY dependant on the worldbuilding, which I believe often masks the eyes of fans from seeing how poorly written it is. Such as the comedy in Fairy Tail or the fights in Dragon Ball (I'm a Fairy Tail fan, I would know). All in all, the story doesn't inspire me, and that's that. But like I said, to each their own.
1/10
Animation/Quality (bad):
The animation of the show isn't my biggest issue, but I do have to say that I do not find it appealing in all of the 700+ episodes I forced myself to watch. The fights feel stale, I've seen fanmade animations better than this stuff. That doesn't necessarily only go to the animations studio's issues, but also to the source material - no offense Oda-sensei, but I genuinely wish you could make better fights that have better tactics and stakes involved. The sound designs are also terrible, all I'm hearing is some type of horns and slow beats that sounds like a newly formed marching band at a high school game. For me, the intensity of the sound design in fights adds to the hype...and I certainly feel no hype whatsoever watching and listening to this show.
2/10, the impressive voice acting is the only reason I rated it higher than one
Fanbase (worst of the worst):
Even after everything mentioned, I don't necessarily hate One Piece at all. It just wasn't my cup of tea. I don't like being a negative person, I simply reciprocate emotions that are pushed onto me. So why am I making this review? BECAUSE OF THE GODFORSAKEN FANBASE! These people have somehow created a faction of worshippers to not only the show, but to the creator! They call him Goda. At first I thought it was cool that they would be so respectful to their favorite mangaka, but it's actually past the point of insanity! These people see NO wrong with the show whatsoever, to the point that if you don't like it, they will literally attack you for it! I've never seen a fanbase, not only in anime but throughout all of fiction, behave the way these people do. Making fun of a Boruto fan that passed away in an accident, mass downvoting on IMDB for Attack on Titan's highest rated episodes, slandering every anime fandom and their favorite anime if they don't have One Piece in their top 3 at the least...and many many more. They have even turned the idea of it being a kids show (which it is) into a philisophical masterpiece...because of what? Luffy embodying freedom? AS A PIRATE?! Luffy literally has higher IQ than these people, I kid you not. With all due respect to Goda, I mean Oda-sensei....One Piece is made even worse because of its fanbase, and I stand by that.
Negative Infinity / 10
Overall, One Piece at one point almost made me quit anime because I used to believe that anime is specifically for weirdos, and used to make fun of anime watchers all the time. The pacing, the lack of motivation I feel, and the lack of entertainment I attained all made that point even more clear to me until my friend and sister forced me to watch Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia. I only kept watching more of it because of consistent harrassment from One Piece fans on my Tiktok page, as they said I have no reason to not like it if I haven't "watched enough of it". Now that I have, I simply "don't understand it". I'm tired of this show, and even more so its fans. So if you are reading this...do yourself a favor, and stay away from this show. Even if you even up likiing it, I would hate to see more people added into that shameful fanbase.

Honestly my first review, but I had to put my two cents into this fantastic anime that gets way too much hate. Fairy Tail is a comedy-adventure show, and never tries to become a well-written or psycholigically thrilling show. It's simply a bunch of powerful wizards in a powerful guild having fun and trying their best to protect each other.
Simply put, Fairy Tail is easily the most enjoyable anime I have ever watched, and I have watched hundreds of anime at this current point in time. The comedy is phenomenal (espeically in dub), the characters are wacky and fun to watch, and the plot
...
is always interesting enough in each arc. This show will make you root heavier for the good guys more than you usually would, but the villains are still very interesting and extremely underrated. All in all, if you want to watch an anime that will make you laugh all day and night, while also giving you extremely good plots in each arc, watch this show.
People expect way too much out of it, and constantly mention things like the "power of friendship" to put down such an incredibly enjoyable anime. The same things you see in this anime are the same things you see in anime like One Piece and Dragon Ball - no one really dies and plot armor is a heavy factor. But that didn't ruin the show for me at all, because I knew to expect that. It's always kids that believe they are more grown up than they actually are - or grown ups that believe liking a kiddish show would be bad for their reputation - that decide to hate on this show. There is a clear reason why this show has lasted for so long, while also having 100 years quest coming soon - because it is amazing. So to all the haters: get ahold of yourself, you probably haven't even gotten up to the Phantom Lord arc but yet you stay hating.
PS: The Phantom Lord Arc is literally only 21 episodes in. If you get to that arc, and still don't like the premise of the show, then you may as well just drop it.
