Here it is. The long awaited sequel to the best anime of 2017. How could anything ever possibly top the greatest of episode 13? Can it even come close?
Yes, yes it can.
This is one of the most entertaining, emotional, and enthralling sequels I have ever witnessed. Did you love the music in season one? Well here it is again except with a massive theatrical soundtrack. Were you invested in Nanachi's story? This gives you the continuation you never knew you needed. Did the unique worldbuilding and curse system draw you in? This gives you even more answers and questions then the original.
That's not to mention
...
that one of the greatest antagonists in all of anime is also here. Bondrewd is the epitome of a character with no moral compass. His only one desire is to pursue Science. As you may probably guess, that means this arc is much darker than anything before it. After all, someone who disregards morals will do things that would never sit well with anyone. If the movie downplayed this part of his character, then he would appear to have some sort of moral compass.
Desire is a main theme in Made In Abyss. Riko desires to see the bottom of the abyss which causes her to delve when she is much too young to handle it. Nanachi's desire for Mitty gave her a reason to live. Lyza's desire to see the bottom outweighed her desire to be with Riko. Finally, Bondrewd's desire to see progress in the Abyss causes him to do inexplicable things to uncover its mysteries. Bondrewd's desire shows how desires can be warped and distorted if they are taken too far. Desire can be a be both a good and bad thing depending on the context.
Dawn of the Deep Soul delivers on every theme of the original series and exceeds it. Please do not miss out on watching this series.
