It's been a long while since I've felt like writing a review about an anime, but this one just had me close to tears so I had to.
I dropped this story a couple of times before I could finish it because I'm very weak to sad stories and I was a bit weary. If you're like me and are afraid to get hurt by sadness by the end of a story, you can relax and go into Kakushigoto with no worries, it's not that type of story.
If you're looking for something that's not just an empty story, with enough emotional fulfillment and charismatic characters, but
...
it's also a light-comedy slice of life about a mangaka single dad raising his daughter, this is it. This isn't a masterpiece, but the one thing I can easily guarantee you is that by the end of it you'll feel like you didn't waste your time, because it's a sweet and good story with a message by the end of it.
This story is told in two timelines, the present and the past, being the past the one with the main focus. This is a light-hearted and slightly emotional slice-of-life comedy about different types of love and relationships, about doing what you love, even if you have to keep a secret, and the love and respect between parents and children, coworkers and friends.
Hope you'll give it a try, the same as I did, I wasn't disappointed and I'm sure you won't be either!

I often see the same kind of long reviews that say too much and nothing I actually wanted to know. I HATE SPOILERS, but I also don't want to waste my time with a story that starts great but decays and ends poorly or one where, after all their trouble, the couple doesn't end up together.. for no reason at all.
So I thought I should review in a different way, YES or NO answers to the questions:
- IS THE ENDING GOOD?
- DOES THE MAIN COUPLE END TOGETHER?
- IS IT WORTH MY TIME?
***If you don't want to know the answers to these 3 questions you should

stop reading right now.***
If you're like me who just wants to know if the story is worth your time, go ahead. So without further ado:
Is the ending good? YES
Does the main couple end up together? YES
Is it worth my time? YES
BRIEF FULL REVIEW: If you like love between a kind-hearted clumsy girl and a misinterpreted grumpy boy this manga is for you. This is one of the rare shoujo stories where the couple's relationship starts in the middle and actually shows the reader their development as an established couple. The art is GORGEOUS and all the characters are very likable.
I intend to make my reviews brief, focusing on answering these three questions. If you like this kind of review I try my best to write in all animes and mangas I've experienced, so you can see a complete list of reviews next to my name just above.
Thank you, you're welcome and peace out. ^^

If you want a masterpiece or a life changing experience this is not for you, but if you want a sweet and hilarious romantic comedy to lighten up your mood I definitely recommend Ao-chan Can’t study.

BRIEF FULL REVIEW: This is one of the few stories that made me cry from laughing, it’s HILARIOUS, the mangaka’s comedic timing is off the charts. The art is fairly good and fits the genre. The manga is currently completed and the anime adapts until Vol. 05 Lesson 20, it goes up to Vol. 08 and Lesson 36, 42 chapters in full with some extra ones. If you came from watching the anime you don't have to reread it, they adapted exactly the same as the manga, even the same panels as scenes and facial expressions. The manga is as funny as the anime adaptation and does go a little further on the story, but I feel like the story wrapped pretty perfectly the way the anime did it. I felt the manga stretched the story a bit too much for no good reason, but it’s still as good as the anime.

If you want a masterpiece or a life changing experience this is not for you, but if you want a sweet and hilarious romantic comedy to lighten up your mood I definitely recommend Ao-chan Can’t study. I used to be one of those people who had prejudice over 12 minutes anime, Ao-chan is a perfect example on why that’s completely fine in some cases, so fine in fact that you don’t feel it’s a 12 minutes anime, it’s not rushed at all, and actually perfectly adapts over half of the original manga.
This is one of the few anime I’ve watched that made me cry
...
from laughing, it’s HILARIOUS, the mangaka and director’s comedic timing is off the charts. The art and soundtrack are fairly good and fits the genre, the opening and ending are delightful, a lot better than many mainstream romcoms. I really don’t know why the score is so low, since the adaptation is actually better than the manga, which has a higher score. The manga is currently completed and this anime adapts until Vol. 05 Lesson 20, it goes up to Vol. 08 and Lesson 36, 42 chapters in full with some extra ones. This show has this low of a score because of the people who think “they are above this type of anime”. I personally don’t feel like I have to watch a mindblowing masterpiece every time I watch an anime, sometimes you just want to relax and simply enjoy an anime. I laughed, I was surprised, I felt cringy, I shipped couples, and I finished it with a big smile on my face, for me that’s a good enjoyable anime, even though it’s not popular or cult and hipster. Just don’t expect to be watching an award winning show, but it’s definitely a warm and enjoyable
...
one.
What’s funny is that this anime makes fun of it’s own clichés and at the same time has very ‘unclichéd’ aspects. The main character is actually smart, speaks his mind about his thanks and feelings and is a really nice person that can actually kill when necessary. Almost all of this story’s cast are all good-natured nobles and privileged, also not really that common. The characters are not just filler background people, their personalities are quite unique and charismatic and smoothly evolve throughout the series, which is rare, and the villain has an actual plausible and decent backstory, he’s not justified but I don’t even blame him. I really feel like decent romantic action/adventure animes are a rare species, and this one was pretty nice and satisfactory, if you’re into romance there’re more than one established couples and relationships to enjoy, also rare on this genre.
If I had to resume I’d say this is a very enjoyable ordinary over-fanserviced romcom action anime that gets better with each episode. Watch at least 3 episodes before you decide to drop it. The score I'd give is really 7.5. I do believe the light novel must be a lot better, the adaptation I think made it a lot more mediocre than it should have been because the story is actually interesting and the characters have a decent amount of substance. The animation though is above average throughout the whole show, especially on the action scenes and special effects, which actually surprised me. The soundtrack is also good.
Of course this is all my opinion, but I'd say I'm a pretty ordinary, sane and romantic person, just so you can have an idea of who wrote this. I try to make my reviews brief (actually briefer than this one), focusing on answering these three questions:
- IS THE ENDING GOOD?
- DOES THE MAIN COUPLE END TOGETHER?
- IS IT WORTH MY TIME?

This is a very underrated short story that seems like it has the old RichBoy-PoorGirl Stockholm Syndrome plot but really within the first chapter takes a completely different turn!! It has a very unique plot and I really wish it was longer, not that it leaves anything to be expected, in the end everything is nicely tied and resolved. The woman has a super strong character and is very smart, and the man is sweet but headstrong, awesome combo! Not to mention this manga has an extra story called "Nil's Magic Circle of Love" that I sooooo wish it'd be a whole solo manga series,
...
the concept and story are so sweet and unusual!! I loved it!! This short manga is super worth it, give it a shot!!

BRIEF FULL REVIEW: This is a very sweet and funny age-gap romantic short story. There aren't too many other age-gap stories that have the right amount of teasing and sweetness like this one, they're usually too intense or too mellow. The characters personalities are predictable but captivating and the main couple's dynamic is enough to make the story interesting, the art is also very pretty and shoujo-like with a good comedic timing. If you like classic shoujo antics and age-gap (not really that big) romance, you'll definitely enjoy this fun and quick read.
EXTRA:
Of course this is all my opinion, but I'd say I'm a pretty ordinary, sane and romantic person, just so you can have an idea of who wrote this. I absolutely HATE SPOILERS with all my might! But I also don't like to waste my time browsing through LONG OPINIONATED reviews only to be more confused than I was before, not find the answers I was looking for and usually bumping into unwanted spoilers. Because of all this I intend to make my reviews brief, focusing on answering these three questions. If you like this kind of review I try my best to write in all animes and mangas I've experienced, so you can see a complete list of reviews next to my name just above.

This is an age-gap adult one-shot, "simple and obvious but not the worst" plot with a happy ending and nice art. If those are things you like you'll like this 10 min read.
I usually make short reviews on manga and anime answering Yes or NO to the questions:
Is the ending good? YES
Does the main couple end together? YES
Is it worth my time? YES, only because it's a one-shot

IF YOU ARE THE KIND OF PERSON WHO LIKES THE STORY COMPLETELY GIVEN TO YOU, YOU WON'T LIKE THIS ANIME. That's the reason why I think the score isn't higher, I think people should be properly warned. This anime deserves a a higher score, that's why I'm making this review. I think if you plan to watch this, just know that a lot of details about the story won't be completely reveled by the end, but they don't badly affect the story by any means, on the contrary! This story's charm is how do you interpret those unexplained mysteries. 'Star Wars a New Hope'
...
is a great example, a window opens and you get to peek at a Universe, the expectador falls in the middle of a story and as you grasp some of it, by the end they don't "explain" it to you, but it doesn't matter because the story was told and the unexplained was exactly the charm of it. The story is so well written that even the first line on the first episode ties up the last scene beautifully that you just know they know what they're doing as they were writing.
DON'T WATCH THE MOVIE RECAP!!!! "Kyoukai no Kanata Movie 1: I'll Be Here - Kako-hen" completely ruins the story by reversing the way it should be told and spoils it completely. And it's so poorly edited that I don't even think you would understand the story anyways.
This anime has a movie sequel and a OVA prequel
WATCH THIS SERIES BEFORE THE OVA PREQUEL "Kyoukai no Kanata: Shinonome", as it was released after the series it's best enjoyed in this sequence.
If you watch and love this anime I DON'T RECOMMEND THE MOVIE SEQUEL "Kyoukai no Kanata Movie 2: I'll Be Here - Mirai-hen", it lowers my overall score for the franchise as I felt the plot was pushed into a stupid direction just to have an unnecessary sequel. The movie doesn't answer the doubts of the series, on the contrary, you'll end up even more confused as they don't even throw 'mysteries' at you anymore but full on plot holes with no explanation. The only thing worth on the movie is that the main couple's romance evolves to a full relationship, but because of the circumstances the main Kuriyama Mirai is so out of character that, if you fell in love with her silly but incredibly brave personality, you'll be disappointed.
If you don't like this series that much maybe you'll like the movie better since it has a higher score?
Anyways this is a review for the 12 episode Kyoukai no Kanata series and I couldn't recommend it more! The story is very refreshing and so are the characters which as you keep watching realize are no cliché at all! The main character Mirai is very different from the heroines I've seen since she is not really that ordinary looking, her design is quite unique! She is super clumsy but very talented and very brave, stubborn and sweet, just like her pair Akihito, they are the most perfect for each other characters I've seen, not in a soulmate way, but in a well written plot way. All the characters in the story are so well written that you feel the story would be incomplete if they weren't there. As per always Kyoto Animation delivers an amazing fluid animation even on a filler comedic episode which is the best I've ever seen, no exaggeration. The soundtrack is equally amazing.
As per usual on my reviews I'll throw my YES or NO answers to the questions:
- IS THE ENDING GOOD?
- DOES THE MAIN COUPLE END TOGETHER?
- IS IT WORTH MY TIME?
***If you don't want to know the answers to these 3 questions you should stop reading right now.***
If you're like me who just want to know if the story is worth your time, go ahead. So with no further ado:
Is the ending good? YES
Does the main couple end up together? YES
Is it worth my time? YES
If you like this kind of YES or NO brief review I try to do that for all animes and mangas I've experienced, so you can see a complete list of reviews next to my name just above.

BRIEF FULL REVIEW: The story has nothing to do with Attack on Titan, the war survival vibe is similar so if you liked that theme you'll like this too. This story doesn't have explicit romance but nuances of it since the main couple care about each other to a ridiculous extent. For me their relationship is the heart of the story. It's animation is ridiculously well made, so is the soundtrack. The characters are not annoying and do their best and the ending is very fitting regarding their journey, not a sad end at all. The story continues on a movie sequel called "Koutetsujou no Kabaneri Movie 3: Unato Kessen" that airs in 2019.
EXTRA:
