This is by far 1 of if not the most bizarre manga I have read, as far as the designs go.
The story is about a group of girls who can jump to different universes using these santa look a like hats. They must only wear them when they are on duty. Their purpose? Well quite frankly it is too jump from universe to universe stopping these creatures from using the kids of that universe for feed. There are 600 universes, but not all they are suppose to go to. Just the assigned by their teacher. The goal of the creatures for is to "lock"
...
each universe with the children of that universe to create a grand universe.
The characters are under developed girls both mentally and physically whom's parents are no where to be found. They fight each day to save each universe from these creatures and their plan for a grand universe. They are looked after and taught by both a teacher and a doctor who give them the knowledge to handle the task for each universe given.
That is the mainframe of this manga. However, the underlining themes are the true story. What Hitoshi was trying to create here was a series centered around themes such as responsibility, individual growth, accountability, equality and coming of age. Hitoshi used his styled art to try to tell the story through symbolism and simple character dialogue, but failed miserably with overexerted flash scenery, nonsensical fight scenes, and just flat out weird designs. Although I do like his designs, but he took it bit too far here.
The main problem with this title, he never set up the story in the beginning and tried to jump in a 1/4th of the way through with his symbolic art style and simple dialogue. Not to say that the story never kicked off, but the structure was never fully built up and fell flat a lot of the times due to the weird scenery and designs. If he had simply stuck to developing the symbolism and characterization the story would have been much better. A lot of the times it felt like he got trigger happy with the scenery.
What Hitoshi tried to do here in the end was recreate the magic he had in Alien Nine. The story and themes are replicable, but far in between as far as quality goes. Which proves that over indulging leads to bad habits and a less then stellar outcome.
Story 3
Art 9.5
Character 5
Enjoyment 7 (it is bloody fun if you're a horror fan or love monster designs)
Overall 4.5/10
I recommend the far superior Alien Nine. But don't read Emulators. It is basically the same thing except rushed and pointless. Also, the OVA is good, but only covers volume 1.

After seeing the super fast paced prequel or original/beginning of this anime,(no idea how to organize them on MAL since the production is all out of order); I was readily excited to view more of the same. Unfortunately I got something different.
The plot seems to be in each episode standalone of whacky happenings that lead to no where and nothing. There is no set up, no movement, just random senseless activities. I tried my best to put pieces together, but nothing came up. It wasn't a rubix cube and none of the pieces fit. So what did I figure? Nothing. All this anime has
...
become is an excuse to make whacky experimental shorts. No substance at all. I was left drawing blanks left and right. So what do I give something that isn't there?
Story ?/10 still waiting I suppose
The art style and color scheme is what drew me in with the previous production along with somewhat of a plot. But really, I loved the original and this as well for its art. It was zany and had vibrant sequences as well as cut edge angles and sequences. The colors were far out of the norm that you typically get with an standard anime presentation. I'm a fan of zany and art house animation so I kept on going for that sake.
Art 7.5/10
I've actually been reading the manga and it actually had some sensibility in it as far as the plot went. The characters actually had a purpose and the setting was somewhat interesting, but none of that transferred over into the anime. They do nothing here. So they feel as though they just are.
Characters ?/10
In the end the only reason I even stuck around with this was the hopes that the plot I had previously read in the manga would eventually develop. But sadly it never did. I rate this purely off of my enjoyment for zany art house animation and the silliness presented. I never felt like the producers made sense of the series and I've no idea what they were trying to present. If it is just the animation,(which I truly feel it is); then they have succeeded in that light. I'd recommend the manga as it has very sharp art style even better than the anime. I just hope more chapters are made because there is a plot for it.

SOME spoilers
BTOOOM! in a nut shell is about a weak protagonist knob who plays online RPG games such as, you guessed the obvious, BTOOOM!.
Now for the story, BTOOOM! is an online game where.. wait.. what? Oh yea they never told us what that game was about. So he plays vidjuh gamez. Then one day his mom finally got tired of his lazy slob lifestyle and some grey area level nonsense happened. I think the kid got kidnapped and taken to an island where he fights to death to save himself for the enjoyment of some loan loon. I believe they also broadcast this live
...
in Japan with the audience thinking it is some simulation survival reality show. The kid quickly & CONVENIENTLY meets up with this big chesty female character. She, like everyone else on this island, was kidnapped to fight on the island TO DEATH. For the most part she despises all male including the protagonist,(I''ll get to why later); and instead of helping she spends most of the show being a nuisance for her own self entitlement. Oh yea, instead of being a badass and killing all the other "players" the kid chickens out when it comes to the female lead because BOOBS. So for the majority of their time on the island they try to kill and collect these gems inserted into other players wrist. They are to collect a certain amount to advance and eventually get off the island. These gems also have abilities to track other players who are using them to do the same thing, kind of like a radar. Some silly thing about how they can cancel each other out, like a typical shounen plot devise "our powers are equal!" yada yada. Any shounen fan should know what I mean. The plot had a boring theme of survival of the fittest and abandoned on an island to survive for a reality show. It was suppose to teach the "victims" who were kidnapped to become better people. Because, well the show hinted at it, were selected by people who knew them. In other words, their "close mates" were tired of their crap and decided to teach them a lesson. But instead, much like this review, the plot got off topic and became more of a wow factor series instead of focusing on character development and overall themes.
Story 3/10
The art was actually, for a MADHOUSE anime, very bland. Very simple. Nothing like their previous works in Metropolis, RedLine, Kaiba, Paprika or Akira. And many more. It is 1 of the very few simple stylistic titles MH has adapted. Even the explosions and the background scenery felt uninteresting to the point where I didn't even pay much attention to it. Just reading the subtitles, where in others like Kaiba, I would take my time to appreciate the atmosphere. It is sad to see MadHouse adapt such a terrible show and new fans will be deterred from their former, better titles. I really hope that's not the case and this review helps those reading learn of their previous works. OFF TOPIC.
Art 6/10
Oh ho, here is arguably the worst part of the show. The characterization. I'll come out bold and say way too many conveniences. The characters are typical average nobodies with nothing going and down on their luck. "Oh, fans will relate it is a dark time in the world yada yada." Nope. Didn't feel any sympathy for any of the characters. Except the fat man. He has a family back home. Family first people. The protagonist, like I said earlier is a low life loser NEET "fans will relate" SHUT UP. I'm a neet and this guy makes me feel like a God. Low life loser who does nothing but play online rpg games where he meets the female lead who plays the same game as him. They are apparently the king and queen of the game or some nonsense and have a wedding. Online RPG life is really quite sad when you think about it. Anyway, the male lead quit school and did nothing but sit around and threaten his mother. The female lead actually had a traumatic experience with the highschool rape crew, is what I'll call them. I won't spoil, but it is nasty and pretty sad. This is actually a growing issue not just in Japan, but all over the world. So real world references aside, the rest of the characters were in the same boat or just ex cons of some fashion. Though they may have relatable backstories for the audience, those didn't make up for the sloppy present tense whilst on the island. Their characterization derives souly on wow factor for the entire show.
Characters 5/10
Overall I never once felt connected with the series. The themes were rehashed survival island and drove off of shock factor. Much like The Walking Dead there is no substance presented in present tense. Just hyped shock appeal for the masses to go "oh my gurd I feel so bad for X and X. Oh no, look out!" It is like an old horror flick that pops up and makes a ruckus and then dies down and nobody, but fans of the genre remember it. Nothing experimental nor original was presented here and nothing memorable to go by. Notice I didn't even name the characters. That's how much appeal this show has. None.
Overall enjoyment 3/10

Basically the story is about a hoodlum hacker who some government organization of some format, recruits and uses to help them stop the bad guyz. Really though this is a load, a rip, a troll, a blatant theft of both Ghost in the Shell and Serial Experiments Lain and their respected themes. From tachikomas to ghost hacking to "if you die in the WIRED you die in the real world". It is a complete ripoff and it gets NO POINTS for stealing.
Also weird virtual rape scenes. Which didn't make any sense at all as long as it caters to fandom. Pointless fan service FTW!
...
Story 0/10
The art is nothing to talk at home about. Bland designs, sloppy backgrounds and terrible lighting. A bunch of pointless flashy kill scenes for wow factor to hide its terrible plot and theft. Nice try, but I am among the goat not the sheep. Also MORE RIPPING OFF GHOST IN THE SHELL AND LAIN.
Art 4/10
Here is the sloppiest part of this theft, the characterization. I felt the development was rushed a lot of the times. Sub characters didn't get there day in the sun to the point where I quit caring or even paying attention to what they were doing. Everyone, for flash effect, wants kill kill kill. Again, hiding the blatant theft. There are pointless lovey dovey romance scenes that have absolutely nothing to do with the plot other than to keep the viewer's mind off track and hide the shows themes. Or it's just terrible writing. "I loved you toru, it's alright I just wanted to tell you that." Yea, don't try looking for context, there is none. It's just there.
Characters 3/10
At the end of the day, this was a product. Something a few producers came together and thought they could turn a buck around. There is nothing to offer other than rehashed story telling of previous titles that didn't need to be retold. GITS and LAIN are fine just as they are. You didn't need to go and steal their ideals and themes. The show got lazy and always felt like a half hearted work. The biggest indecency someone can have done to them is theft of their work. And that is exactly what this is, but under a different name.

Somewhat brief review for this anime;
There's not much story to this short little film. At its core it portrays themes of greed, love and your brothers keeper. The story is centered around a magical nine colored deer who has the power to grant one happiness and health. Naturally, being Ying and Yang in the world, there are those who both abuse and cherish this magical deer and its powers. A greedy snake merchant trying to turn his luck around (although there is equal exchange between the deer and the snake merchant), from a spoiled queen who uses sympathy to get what she wants. On the
...
flip side there are some humans, more-so other animals of the wild who appreciate the magical deer for taking care of them. The deer really resembles, in a spiritual sense, that of a God who is here to help those willing and expose those who would like to take advantage of the deer's kindness & power.
Really felt like an homage piece to Osamu Tezuka's Hi no Tori (Phoenix for N. American crowd)
The animation is really where this short film shines. The setting reminded me of Disney's Mulan while maintaining a super-flat art style like that of a Samurai Jack. Very fluid for its time and some spectacular sequences with the magical deer hopping around as well as other characters. The color scheme is very good and probably my favorite thing about this anime. If you are a fan of zany or art house like animation you will enjoy this watch.
Characters are pretty simple nothing to out of the ordinary. I couldn't really find time to enjoy them as much because it is a short little film. If the film had been longer and went a little more into the themes the characters present, it would have been much more enjoyable.
Overall though, I found this film to be very enjoyable and I highly recommend for fans who would like a taste of older animation or just brilliant artistry.

Apart of Tezuka's 13 experimental films, Genesis is a parody of the beginning of man, women, animals and the world. Osamu actually diverts the belief that man came first and women birthed from the rib of Adam in a most comical way. The film suggest that God failed with women (really though man and women failed themselves with war, crime and perversion of the world and material possessions and what have you.), that he should start over, but this time with man coming first and women second.
There is not much of a story here, just a very early piece of animated parody with
...
a interesting and comical suggestion on how the world and everything in it, came to be.
Overall it is enjoyable and worth a watch for anyone looking to have a quick laugh.

"Must be tiring ain't it? To worry about all that, that is. One can only live for a short amount of time. So you might as well try to enjoy it. Don't lose your head over it."
Doraemon is a one-shot drawn by Taiyo Matsumoto and derived from the original Doraemon classic. I honestly know little to nothing about the original, but bare with me as I review this piece.
Nobita, the MC, decides to travel forward in time and see what his future self has become of. What he finds is surrealistically compelling in the highest degree.
When we are young, we never think of
...
the future. We just think of whats now, the present. Rightfully so as the future can be a very scary thought. In this story, Nobita's future self knows this all too well. From meteorites falling from the sky, killing all life on Earth to the possibility of aliens eventually taking over this planet enslaving the human race & even the threat of global nuclear war, these are all worries the world faces. As part of growing up, Nobita realized lifes greatest fears & garnered an excessive perspective of them. Thankfully though, our veteraned are there to remind us we still have our present selves to take care of. We don't know a thing about tomorrow. All we can do is face facts and take the present for what it's worth.
Even though it's a one-shot I strongly feel as though this particular one had a viable message and was delivered excellently through the manga medium. Taiyo on board reinforced this with beautiful imagery and fresh designs for Doraemon fandom. Although some may disagree with his style, I find it brilliant.

Episode 1

Basically Ginrei has halted so many crimes, Alberto of "Blue Flower", feels as though he needs to finally do something villainy about this. So he assigns a disciple of his own to take her place, of course after capturing Ginrei herself he falls short when Daisaku saves Ginrei with Giant Robo. Oh, needless nudity from Ginrei lets grab her tit and have it explode! Robo river of blood.
Episode 2
1/10
Someone at the office forgot to can this garbage of an idea and thought "Hey, lets have Daisaku battle a giant Ginrei robot for good measure!" Oh! and lets get him totally smashed because that's what 12 year olds normally do! More needless nudity for Ginrei!
Episode 3
5/10
The only half way decent episode in this mess. Ginrei and co take up on a journey in the dessert to solve.. something. Some guy dies protecting his son? Clarity[] Sad ending, was meh.
Overall this felt like Imagawa came in out of shape and lazy with a script. Even the animation suffered slightly. The plot devices and cheap character development butchered a perception you had for Giant Robo and its characters. In the end, this special is very forgettable and like many specials, a failed experiment to make fans more into Giant Robo. Stop slapping me Imagawa, stahp!
