Completely unwatchable. As a fan of the webtoon and the drama, this is horrifically bad.
Everything form the horrible art style to the horrible direction and pacing, it's just. An affront to the source material. The art style is very ugly. This is supposed to be a show about a makeup artist and they can't even make the makeup look good. Even the MC's voice is--unbearable. It's too high, squeaky and annoying. Worse, it's extremely cringe. Did they make this for 6 year olds? MC was fine and charming and likeable before. Here, she's just... oh god.. what did they do... Just read the webtoon or
...
watch the drama. The drama is even better than the webtoon.
Deeply tragic they churned the original into some 10 cent korean anime. Artist must be in pain. Whoever made this must've either had no respect for the original work or made this for tiny children.

Good lord, it's like a train wreck I can't look away from.
This is a horror manga. That's the only explanation for this horror.
I don't actually mind dark stuff, but uh. Yeah, this series is unabashed about being a slutfest with no substance. (Why. Just why do people start liking each other for no reason at all? Which is the SMALLEST of the problems here.)
I mean, at least it doesn't shy away from admitting rape is rape, but good lord that doesn't quite make it less horrifying. 😅
My greatest complaint is Yuri. It is physically painful to listen to him speak. He is unhinged in the
...
worst possible way. Is he supposed to sound that awful? Dear god.
The animation is..... surprisingly a bit better compared to other shitty BLs? I can't believe how much they got away with.
Sound is nothing worth mentioning.
Story is....... the love triangle is trite and shallow. I kinda do want to know what happens next though. Other than that the story is sex.
This series is definitely not for 99% of people. I only did to see what the fuss was about (and morbid curiosity).
Go read Caste Heaven instead. It's still horror, but at least the ending is good. lmao

I suggest anime-onlies to keep giving Jujutsu a chance because s2 is SIGNIFICANTLY better than S1. Shibuya arc is the highlight of JJK as far as I've read. It's also a strong improvement over the anime and Hidden Inventory is sooooo good. It did the manga even better in making Getou a good villain with depth and you can really empathize with his reasons and see the reason he turned out the way he did. It also does its explanations better than the manga too lol, and gives the characters more time (though in Mechamaru's case, too much time... yo no one cares about mechamaru...)
S1
...
didn't go that in-depth into the plot because the plot in JJK doesn't start showing itself until later, but I promise it goes deeper, you just have to stick around to actually find out about the rest of the worldbuilding, plot, and jujutsu world history. Gege-sensei rooted all of it in the Heian period, and the plot will go back centuries. (this isn't a spoiler this is mostly info since s1...)
Sidenote, the thought that Gojo would be the main staple this season is h i l a r i o u s. Nah, Yuji's the main character, Gojo could never be, for the simple reason: Gege-sensei dislikes Gojou and doesn't understand why he's so popular. (RIP)
Protip, do some reading on Tortoise & Achilles before you go into ep 3 or so, or skip if you don't care how the math in Getou's Limitless works, but mathematicians have articles on it regarding the anime. Also suggested you review how Red, Blue, and Purple works from S1. (Unless no care... I mean, even if I read them I forget them in 5 seconds flat so lol, they are math concepts that are difficult to grasp as an ability.)
The opening for the Shibuya Arc incident is a banger and stylistically soooo suave, dark, and sexy, and has me incredibly hype for what's to come. This season's a real visual treat. Makes me sweat buckets wondering if the animators got any sleep lol (probably not.)
For those that think: "It's supposed to be dark and depressing and only 1 person dies in s1 :/" That's 1) not even true, 2) ...just keep watching, lol. 3) Sure, more people could die, but this isn't Berserk. S1 is like the (big, long) appetizer before the meal. You ain't seen nothin yet. It'd be like complaining about how Naruto is only ever loud and annoying with no big character development..... pre-Shippuden. Now if anyone needs me, I'll be meowing in that box over there. If you know, you know.
I suppose the only other thing to keep in mind is uh. Yeah, MAPPA does not have a good track record with how they treat their employees. Just be socially aware, I suppose. But to be fair, neither does the majority of the anime industry. People do not get paid living wages in this industry on functional, healthy working hours. So when you can, don't let them think we've forgotten, yeah? (I just mean respectfully reminding/pushing them to keep working on changing anime distribution models/paying workers so animators can actually survive.)
Now, is Jujutsu Kaisen the best shounen ever? No. Is it the worst of modern shounen? I think the people who think this without any additional nuance are contrarians, kinda. I think we remember the oldies with rose-tinted glasses. Bleach was always crap, especially past a certain point. Naruto was a huge disappointment with what happened with Boruto (but pre-Boruto, yes, it's imo rather solid). Oda is um..... a can of complicated worms. Shaman King had a lot of slow moments. Nobody remembers Toriko even though it was momentarily a new big three. AoT turned very, very controversial, and on top of the political issues, it went out of its way to hurt and betray its readers on purpose. Tokyo Ghoul turned into a nightmare for almost everyone I knew into it. Name any older shounen, I'm sure it wasn't as good as we remember. Sure, back then we had better, harder hitters, like HxH. Jujutsu, as with anything, had its slow moments, just as Naruto and HxH did. But JJK also has its highlights, and so do other modern shounen sometimes. I don't think we'll get another hard-hitter like HxH in the next 5 years, but to be frank that's not a good reason to instantly dismiss any newer work just because it is different from what we remember. Is JJK S2 worth watching? 1000% absolutely. (Just make sure MAPPA keeps working on their HR issues lol.)

While the anime /is/ pretty sketchy, it's better executed than you'd expect, though it is going in a direction I hope is just a fakeout.
(some spoilers.)
Yoshida's reaction to Sayu propositioning herself is a perfectly acceptable and realistic reaction. Please do not dismiss this entire anime just because he didn't say "it'd be morally wrong", when he already says "I am not attracted to minors" multiple times, which plenty suffices and gets the point across better. It didn't work because many teenage girls don't accept that as a response, so of course he tried "I wouldn't sleep with you because I'm not in love with
...
you" instead. It makes sense to me he put it like that. His reactions are perfectly reasonable imo. Sure, he could've been more insistent, but I wouldn't make any judgements based on any misinterpretations of those scenes in this anime.
Meanwhile me, I'm holding out hope he ends up with his boss Gotou. If not, the series might play the long game. This seems to me like a setup for a surrogate/guardian relationship for the next several years, and then probably slow burn for several years down the future.. As far as I know, the main characters' relationships stays platonic for the time being. It's sketch, yeah, but it's definitely more substance than I was expecting lol.
More misconceptions: The "fanservice" for this series in the early episodes are not actually fanservice. They don't happen anymore after Sayu gets over her complex. The way Sayu acts out at first is because she has a very low self-esteem, and it's more there to portray how broken she is imo rather than it being just fanservice. It's a defense mechanism, to sleep with people to keep them at bay--to feel like she's the one with the control and agency in the situation, instead of having to face that her life is spiraling out of control lol. And also there to portray what a "good guy" the MC is (uuhhh... whatever) for turning her down.
Is it worth watching? Some episodes are okay and imo interesting/entertaining. Some episodes are quite lackluster. Some things are definitely eyebrow-raising, but I would suggest taking what you want from fiction and running with it. What is interesting about the show is the premise and the ways the characters act, particularly Gotou and Sayu's interactions are pretty heartwarming/moving. The art style/animation is decent but nothing outstanding. Everything else is mediocre. But I think there is merit in this series for if you like surrogate guardian/mentorship relationships, as I feel like there is an oversaturation of romance compared to other relationships anyway. I honestly really hope what romantic hints there are are there as a fake out, and they settle in a platonic relationship. At the very least, I think Yoshida and Sayu's relationship will remain platonic for years in-story. (I hope.)
Honestly the kouhai and the harem factor in this anime is kind of exhausting, but at the same time, how Yoshida and his boss's dynamic starts off is pretty different and kind of refreshing. It is a very adult/mature dynamic, and I actually do hope that goes somewhere. I find the idea of her potentially helping him taking care of Sayu to be very endearing, actually, even. Gotou is probably one of the stronger characters of this series. The kouhai, however, is just annoying tbh. The co-workers and other characters are not worth mentioning.
I hope that people might consider that some people might watch this anime for better reasons, and give it a chance if they want to. In my case, I actually picked up this series because something similar happened to me with an old friend, and it is comforting and cathartic to see Yoshida and Sayu treat each other like found family so well, when I was betrayed instead. I made friends with and was seen as an older sister figure by a 17 y/o runaway from work who I had a lot of common ground with, who I lent a den for a few days. I helped her even after that, and all I got from it was being left with her cat for the 8 months she ghosted and left her with me, associated traumatic memories from her mistreatment, and a stalker of three years on-going in her now ex-boyfriend who knocked her up and she was forced to have the child of bc of religious parents. (He got obsessed with me while I was trying to help her.)
I hope people do not misinterpret Sayu's actions as meant to be titillating to to reviewer, but instead somewhat realistic self-destructive behaviour as a teenage girl. I think it's more meant to shock you into feeling pity for her. That old friend was similar in that she sought sugar daddies on craigslist. It might seem cliche or something, but real life is actually even more messed up.
I am fond of Gotou and find her rather relatable, and see a little bit of myself in her. I also have an older sister mentor of my own to help me as I was a ministry/group home kid, so I think it's important for people to value mentor/found family relationships.
So if someone gives this anime a chance because they consider the POV of people like me, I would be glad. :)
This anime starts to get interesting again near the start of episode 8, by the way. I want to find out what happens next.
This isn't like, a great anime by any means, but it is interesting imo. Somehow, it has kept my interest much longer than three other highly rated/recommended anime this season.
edit: I think it's very important for these misconceptions to be addressed. It is impossible to address these issues in any other way beyond this. I tried multiple times and took time to write this review. All I mean to say is to please take criticisms of the morality of these characters with some grains of salt, no matter where you see it, and not base it on the opinions of anyone who has only seen the first few episodes and made unfair assumptions. Please do not dismiss a show based on misinterpretations or lies. You can also take my words with a grain of salt, but please do the same with everything.

I couldn't finish it, honestly. I like yuri, but honestly this was mind-numbingly boring. It has nothing special going for it except for good art.
I definitely wouldn't say it's realistic. It's pure fluff, about a couple in a honeymoon relationship. It's very bland. And it's kinda creepy to stick your head into your new girlfriend's sheets to sniff 'em on the first date lol.
This has been done to death, and its execution kinda pales to stuff like... Their Story, for instance. (manhua) Very very bland, and not even cute enough to make up for it. :(
It's too bad, I think I set my expectations too
...
high because of how high quality YagaKimi ended up.
