(ONE MINOR SPOILER IN THIS REVIEW)
Rarely have I seen an anime, such as this, pick itself back up and reinvent a superhero story with such sincerity as My Hero Academia season 2
I'll be honest here, I gave season 1 a bad rap. I harshly criticized it, only because it felt generic, and I felt no connection with the main character who was presented his new life on a sliver platter. But to see this kid finally make use of his powers and learn brand new ways to combat villains and others using a seemingly overpowered quirk was amazing. It was the first
...
time where I felt tension and uneasiness when observing the villain. And the voice acting, wow, has funimation outdone themselves this time!
The art is fluid and gives each character a reason to exist. They all stand out from one another with bright colors. Not a frame was misplaced in this case.
The soundtrack was phenomenal in that it was diverse in track placement. They fit the scenario in which they were presented. Sometimes, however, the song got overpowered by the sounds of the quirks, but that's just a minor thing.
With any show, some characters are going to have more screen time than others. That just means that usually they make up for that with the main ones who indeed did develop from how they were in the first season. I have to give the development award to Bakago only because he allowed himself to work with Deku for the sake of winning. I'm interested to see where his character goes from here
So, yeah, I did enjoy this show. It's certainly action oriented, but themes of heroes and villians are explored as well. Whose to say that either are doing the right thing in their eyes, am I right? This show gives shounen new life and gives hope to me that more shows will follow in its footsteps. I am now convinced on the BHA hype and so should YOU.

Ninja Slayer is, well frankly, an experience not worth missing. The inferno cop esque style pairs perfectly with the outrageous sketchy art style of Trigger. There is practically no REAL story...but let me get right into that
STORY: 4
This is the tale of Fujikido's quest for vengeance against the fearsome boss of the syndicate organization, Soukai, for the killing of his son and wife. Simple...yes...Stupidly simple? Absolutely. There's no complex shit that requires deep thinking. It would be an insult to distinguish it's story as being superb over some of the likes of classics *ahem* Trigun, NGE, Fist of the North
...
Star. I'm not gonna lie and tell you to watch it for the story...now on the other hand
ART: 6
The art is a calamity between shitty 2d fight scenes made from flash and 3D typical Gainax/Trigger animation. But, I do think this does it value. I appreciate being shown these well-enough animated sequences but then being immediately reminded that I'm watching a show made for us stupid Americans to stop thinking we know everything. As a treat, we get to look at the same frame for 50 seconds....like take the scene where Ninja Slayer and Nancy are sitting there. It's a grim reminder that my intelligence can be quelled under certain circumstances.
SOUND:8
BACK IN BLACK is a great intro. So rocking and catchy and the lyrics try and provide us a deeper meaning into absolutely nothing. The song that plays when Ninja Slayer goes into a fight is nice. Overall, I didn't want to lynch myself over repetitive music if that tells you anything
ENJOYMENT:8
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAART. I think that's all I need to say here
Overall: a solid 6.
There's no point in giving it any higher than this. There will be some moments in the show where you'll be regretting even clicking on the first episode. So, heed my warning, this show is a shittly made, poorly presented, masterpiece at being bad....but I do believe its worth at least one watch.

Nanbaka is an absolute joke of a series. What I saw in the first half of the first season was absolutely discarded for a more serious but ludicrous second part. It is non-cohesive and fails to focus on backstory and explanation. Not to mention, the comedy is pretty much nonexistent They throw in Gokuu's older brother for the sake of having an enemy. They could have made anybody the bad guy, hell, even Hajime's brother could have turned bad and it would have had the same impact. Gokuu and his brother have no chemistry when they collide, and even
...
the main character's themselves seem to fall under this same category.
The art I do kind of like. It's got style and enough distinction to make it different from others of its kind. But that's as far as it goes. It's nothing special, the animation is sloppy at times, and they mix way to many damn colors. See, jojo can get away with that since it flashes to different palettes of colors at serious scenes, but when a show is like that all the time, it gives you a headache. Also removed sparkles soooooo
Sound is meh. The intro, I must say, is the one thing I'll always enjoy (if I go back to watch the show). It's catchy and poppy, but has that shrill guitar sound to make you reminiscence about the experimental early 2000s music scene. There are various guitar songs riddled throughout the show that are just pretty much space filler...and don't even get me started on the ending theme...it's atrocious
As I said earlier the characters are not different enough to make them unique. Everyone collides with someone else's personality at some point. Hajime was definitely my favorite of all the characters I saw, and the Warden too. But what was up with everyone getting these weird powers? Is that like the norm or something? Is there someone that gave them all these powers or are they born with them? Like at least give us some backstory so we're not left wondering why the only thing that sets them different from each other is what they can do.
So yeah, if you want to hear honestly, there were several moments that I wanted to drop this show, but I didn't cause I actually had some aspect of hope. I now realize that hope was ineptly placed because I do not like Nanbaka...I really don't. Please don't waste your time. Watch the first half of the first season if you must, but don't continue
Overall I give it a 4

The story of Eva is just one I enjoy immensely. There is no better experience to finish off the series than to watch this. It's quite a ride, with many twists and turns, but you'll come out of it with better bearings when you tackle it the next time.
Story 10: The human morals that play into the story amplify what is going on around everyone we already knew before hand. SEELE will do anything to accomplish their mission of instrumentality, even if that means killing NERV to do so...the people they've been coinciding with all along. Shinji is perhaps the most
...
broken of any of them in this situation. Everything is falling to pieces and all he has to show for it is cowardice. He has no hope of coping with anything, and that's why Misato enables him do fight on. That's the point of this story. We must fight on through the shit we get thrown at us, even if we just want to give up and make it all go away. Shinji got that situation. He received the power to be God, and he chose to throw it away for the flawed earth that he was always a part of, even if he didn't feel that way all the time. It's depressing, but it leaves us with a message that overcomes that depression if we chose to accept it.
Art 7: Now this is where it gets a little tricky. Yes i've always thought the animation definitely improved in this, there's no doubt in my mind that it did. There's just something about Sadamoto's art that can't be replicated in anime form. They did their best, yes, but in my opinion it was not quite what I was expecting. In no way is that a diss to the art style. It is still a fantastic work of art, that interested me more in the world of art.
Sound 10: Evangelion has always had some of the best music. From orchestral pieces, beautiful vocals, and eerie noises, there's not a single song that DIDN'T fit into this movie. It complemented each scene perfectly with Komm süsser tod being my absolute favorite. As I see Rei fall apart in front of me, we get the haunting message of wanting to go back in time, but not quite being able to, since life must move forward, despite our best wishes and intentions.
Characters 8: I feel bad for Shinji I really do. He gets a lot of unwanted hate because of his character flaws, but that's what makes a character beautiful. His just happened to be fear and that pissed a lot of people off. He was seeking to be understood, and isn't that what we all want. I mean, he's 14 for Christ's sake. Give him a break, he's still going through puberty and thinking about girls constantly. Asuka is another character I adore for simply being badass and the OG tsundere. Rei is cool too, I just wish she had more to say, but I suppose the few words she says speaks to her supremacy and wiseness beyond her years. Gendo was a pawn in a larger game and thought he had a grip on reality when really he was just as out of control as everyone else. Kaji was a cool dude too, but again, very underplayed. Misato is defintely my favorite from the show. She always has a indomitable spirit that never seems to falter, yet we see on the inside that it is a ploy to make her feel welcome in the presence of others. See, that's why I love this show. No, the characters aren't edgy, they are real. They have emotions and they have problems that aren't grossly exaggerated. We've all had to deal with death and loneliness, and we all process it differently.
Enjoyment 10: The more I watch this movie, the more I can glimpse into my own life and think about what I am grateful for. There would be no reason to change the position that I am in, and I think that is what this movie is trying to tell me and the rest of it's audience. It's empowering, and it empowers me to do great things.
OVERALL 10: First check out the OG Eva series (obviously) then come to this and be blown away. Everyone takes this movie a different way. Don't pass it up as a trippy acid walk-through but instead believe that the journey will lead you to a conclusion. ENJOY MY FRIENDS, ALL IS RIGHT WITH THE WORLD.

Black Jack is one of Mr. Tezuka's most famous works next to Astro boy of course. It portrays the medical world through the eyes unlicensed doctor, Black Jack, as he gets all sorts of unique and life changing tasks and surgeries he must perform to the best of his abilities.
Story: 7
The story follows Black Jack, a mysterious doctor that has sort of an unknown past as everyone only knows him because of his reputation. According to almost everyone in the show, this man is superb in his surgery abilities and is one of the best doctors in Japan. Each episode
...
is it's own new case that I found to be always unique. Even though most of the episodes are stand-alone, each of them are well paced and do a good job explaining the story for that episode.
Art: 6
Now even if the design is a little childish and perhaps a little hard to look at, I found myself glancing more at the emotions each character depicts. Even if the characters are unsightly, the emotions they portray stand out to me the most. Tezuka knows how to make us feel for a character by creating emotions through facial gestures. What we can't get by looking at his art, we can get by looking at the emotional value of the characters.
Sound: 8
The music in this show I just simply adored. From the intro, to the music in the show, everything I enjoyed to my heart's content. I'd have to say if I were to pick my favorite intro, it would for sure be "Here I am" by globe. The vocalist of the song was great, as were the instruments and such within the song. The only problem I had with some of the songs was that they got a bit repetitive sometimes. Some songs played multiple times in one episode and that got a bit bland for me. Thank God the music was actually good. Otherwise I wouldn't be giving it this praise right now.
Character: 7
I wanna say the only character I enjoyed was Black Jack. Pinoko got annoying as hell real quick, and I already knew I was going to hate her. As for the episode related characters, they were just there so you'd feel sad for them. I couldn't have emotional bonds with them because all episodes were only 1 parters. If an episode extended to 2 parts, then we could start talking characters. As for minor characters, they weren't stand out at all. I guess that's why they're minor, so that's only a nitpick.
Enjoyment: 9
I for sure really enjoyed this anime. My only problem: wayyyyy to long. Seriously, I'm all for making an anime long if it has a story to go off of, but it doesn't. This series would have worked as maybe a 24 episode series at best, but 61? That's a little much Tezuka.
OVERALL: 8
Yeah I say for sure check this one out. If your a fan of House or doctor shows, do it. You won't regret it. And hey, if an episode seems awful 10 minutes in, just skip it. It won't matter. EXCEPT the Pinoko episode. Don't skip that one, trust me. Have a good day!

Now, Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt is not your typical anime. This is one of the most profane and dirty shows I haved watched probably in my entire lifetime, but you know what, it works. Panty and Stocking is one of those shows you're uncomfortable with watching at first, but then you just accept the fact that you're watching something of its caliber. Gainax, you truly know how to experiment.
Story 6/10
Now I know I shouldn't be expecting much from a comedy show, and I didn't going in. Every episode is a new little story that tells us of the coarse adventures
...
that Panty and Stocking go on regularly. Now there are recurring plot points (I mean if you could even call them that) that pop up here and then. For example, starting with episode 6, the two demon sisters, Scanty and Kneesocks, make appearances here and there in future episodes. By episode 12, we get a new plotpoint where Corset, the mayor of the city, wants the find Hell's monkey, whose key is in the form of Brief's genitalia. This key basically releases the forces of hell itself onto earth and whatnot, but I don't want to get into too much details. It was trying to aim for I guess a half decent plot at the end, but what I'm I saying? We are dealing with the studio infamous for bad endings. Who knows if we'll ever see a P&S season 2?
Art 8/10
"Oh the nerve!" You're probably thinking as you type away furiously at the keyboard. "This art is awful! How could you give it anything higher than mediocrity!" Well kind sir, I'll tell ya. Gainax was trying to make it have an American type artwork. I mean, this show is far from Japanese, I assure you. It parodies a lot of different artwork in the show like the old G1 Transformers, Southpark, and the very Powerpuff Girls style that is prevalent throughout the show. It depicts a popular view of what the Japanese think of our culture. Now I know it's not the most appealing to the eyes, and that's why I'm not giving it masterpiece status. When going into this show, try to understand what they were going for, and above all pay attention more to the humor than the artwork.
Sound 7/10
Starting with the intro, I think it brings a nice atmosphere to what this show is about to unravel for your little mind: sex, profanity, and much more. It's simple lyrics and flashy colors bring you into the moment, for what you're about to experience is something you have never seen before in an anime. The ending credits is a nice serene and catchy song that kept me from skipping it at the end of the episode. Now this is coming from a guy who will skip any end outro just from hearing a couple seconds from it. So this was a nice change of pace. The songs within the show could be hit or miss. One song will have you listen to the very promiscuous sounds of a girl moaning, and really no other song really stood out to me. I'd say definitely my favorite of the bunch was the song that played during P&S's transformation scene, "Fly Away." A very catchy song that fit the two angels to a tee.
Character 9/10
The characters in this show were great. I wanna say I enjoyed every single character in the show. By far, my favorite was Garterbelt. I mean who doesn't love a big black preacher who has the Lord in his heart, but still swears like a sailor and is into bondage. I know I did. Between the two sisters, I think Panty wins by just a minimal amount. A sex obsessed angel who's not afraid to get down to business when the time comes, she definitely proves to get my vote between these two characters. Nothing against Stocking, I just think she was a bit underplayed. Most of the shine went towards Panty, and when Stocking did get screen-time it was only for a short amount of time before Panty started to do her thing. The two sisters were a nice add-on to the rest of the series and proved to be just as good of characters as P&S. Brief, well, he's just kinda there.
Enjoyment 8/10
I didn't know too much about what I was getting myself into, until I was finally into it. I thoroughly enjoyed this show and found myself laughing at many of the inappropriate moments in the episodes. This was a treat to myself considering it broke the usual norms of an anime and gave me something a little more fresh this summer.
OVERALL 8/10
Definitely check out this show if you haven't already. You won't regret the time you put into watching this hilarity. It's only 13 episodes, so you don't have much to lose, am I right? This is one of those shows to watch with friends just to get a kick out of all the sex jokes ans so forth. Oh and keep this far away from your parents, trust me. You'll thank me later.
Have a wondrous day.
