It's one of those series with multiple one-off realities that start off strong, but the author starts to slack on his standards and the story drags on about useless one time plot threads while also being severely underdeveloped in the core storyline.
The art isn't strong enough to keep people drawn, while the story and characters that were the key attraction started losing their luster after about the 3rd-4th reality/dream.
The author likes to keep the mystery of many things, and has insight to how people might react to them but his biggest flaw is never actually developing them in a timely fashion.

Barbarian Quest

There are stories that are utterly forgettable, and ones that makes you ponder about the characters and yourself in relation.
This is a story about a barbarian tribesman with no qualms about killing in a fictitious world not unlike our past, during age of exploration. So seeing myself resonate with the character was the last thing I expected. It is NOT a dark fantasy, but a bloody action adventure but is laden with gentle philosophy. Reminds me of an earlier Tokien or GRR Martin style work. It mirrors questions most people will ask in their lives yet it is kept optimistic because of the MC's talent and outliook. Nov 25, 2023

Came into this not sure what I was expecting but this made me cry like a baby as an adult in the 30s with the heartwarming stories.
Heartfelt story with good art and pacing. It's a warm slice of life vibes but with a clear progression as the MC learns about the world. Story about a guy who inherits a strange Restaurant that serves ghosts. Probably read several hundreds of manga/manwha at this point, so I am pretty selective on my titles but this has immediately cracked into my top 10. It's the type manga makes you want to make the world a better place. 10/10 Sep 25, 2023
Tales of a Shining Sword

It's a story about a powerful immortal 9 tail fox spirit that has reached the peak of power from before mankind's existence, got tired of his life after certain experiences happened and grew curious about living the moral life as a human.
Main character comes across brash but justifies his actions well. Side characters have clear traits and although haven't been developed as deeply, are well fleshed out. The actions of characters are thoughtfully executed and the world is interesting and developing well. It dips into eastern mythos but is easy enough for everyone to understand. Overall, very well paced and an enjoyable read, it gets 10/10 since ... Sep 16, 2023

This series is more of a casual read, like a popcorn flick, reading a few chapters on and off since it is so episodic at the start. If it was just this format alone, it would be 7/10.
Then the final 30 chapters comes along and we start to see the bits and pieces of the story coming together and characters intentions revealed as the story pushes ahead. Nice change of pace, one more star. The series has a full arc with a complete ending, and that is more than what I can say for many mangas, which pushed me to rate it 1 star higher. Final rating ... Probably the best in class for action shounen style manwha stories.
Sits among my top with Murim Login and The Legend of the Northern Blade for that genre. Plot wise, nothing special, korean manwhas tend to repeat the same general formula. Execution wise though, masterful. Very well paced and thoughtful planning of how a revenge recar would be like. Art, beautiful and stylstic. Everything you expect a shounen MC to do, he does it smarter, explains it well and pulls it off more efficientyl, this is also done with antagonists so you can see epic conflicts, something that is tough to pull off. Well deserved to be at the spot ... Sep 8, 2023
Reborn Rich

This isn't a new attempt at the "reincarnated kid becomes rich and powerful" plot idea, but it is BY FAR the best executed for the real world genre so far even thinking back with my decades of experience reading manga/manwha. Probably at the very top of my current list of must reads.
A story is limited by the experience and wisdom of its author. This kind of story to be told well requires depth of thought and this series has pull it off perfectly. Telling a realistic story of climbing up the ranks of Korean society reveals how much thought the writers have given into this series, ... Sep 8, 2023
Return of the Blossoming Blade

Excellent first season, full of cliques and troupes of the typical "give no fucks" reincarnated anime protagonist, but told with strong comedy, nuance and character consideration.
IF it was based purely on the first season alone, it would be an easy 9/10. HOWEVER there is a significant quality drop off in the 2nd season, with the story becoming much more stagnant with each chapters constantly harping back to the MC having to look flashy and cool at the expense of the pacing and story. It was fun at first, but seeing it happen for the 50th time gets old and it seems to be purposely overplayed ... |
