This movie did not age well in relation to how society has changed but also the treatment of children:
-Boys and girls get seperated when being taught about puberty at school. Boys are given ZERO information about female puberty and do not even know about periods. When they find out, they make fun of the girls for having them, and sexually harass them by flipping their skirts to see if they're on their period. This is of course laughed off as boys being boys.
-The MC's father is an emotionally distant man and the family is often seen walking on eggshells around him. While eating dinner
...
he stares at his newspaper and is not actively part of the conversation. Once he is done reading, he literally commands his wife to bring him food. He actually says "food" or "Hey, food". No please, no thank you.
-After the MC tells the story about how her father grabbed her by the collar and slapped her once (for walking out the house with no shoes), she says it's better if they hit you more than once, because otherwise you keep asking yourself why they'd ever hit you.
-The mom called the MC "not normal" because she's bad a math. MC accidentally heard this. She also constantly criticisers her for being a bit picky with her food. The mother is overall very cold towards her child. The sisters are not very nice either. There are no happy family memories mentioned.
The movie is pretty much the MC remembering about a bunch of bad things from her childhood...
