I went into this knowing one thing, it had the director of K-On! I love K-On, it's saccharine good fun, and the best part of it is the characters. This is the biggest problem with A Silent Voice, the characters are awful. I've always said that a good story is only held up on the strength of it's characters. Main deaf girl has literally no personality, other than she's deaf, and likes to feed fish. Fantastic, let's make a two hour long sadfest dedicated to this horrible character. I feel the need to write a review for this interesting little film right here simply because of it's score on this website, which I feel doesn't do it justice whatsoever and therefore I need to be that white knight for anime everyone hates. The reason I wanted to view this came from two reasons. One, I had recently finished Junji Ito's Uzumaki, which I found to be amazing and terrifying, and two, I've had and interest in Ufotable this anime's studio since I've been watching the well known film works the Kara no Kyōkai series. I'm gonna make this quick. Samurai flamenco is meta as fuck. The show goes through three different genres throughout the entirety of the show. Starting off as a realistic if not somewhat parody based drama, then changing into a full force super hero show, and then pulling back and becoming somewhat of a psychological thriller(the final genre being the one to really make me appreciate the show). I think if I could rate the three different genre changes in the show I'd give the drama portion a 7, the super hero portion a 6, and the psychological portion an 8. If you like something that
