If you're thinking of dropping it because of the animation, DON'T!

I'm usually a stickler for animation quality and have been unusually unhappy with these low frames per second donghua adaptations that have been saturating the market BUT this one is actually surprisingly good. Unlike most short duration episode donghua in which NOTHING happens in the majority of episodes, this one has great pacing and plot advancement episode-to-episode which makes this 24-episode adaptation feel like it was over too quickly and having you desperate for more. The relationship between the two protagonists is similar to Meng Qi Shi Shen (Cinderella Chef) and Tong Ling Fei ... (Psychic Princess) where the male protagonist of the tsundere archetype but they open up to the energetic, charming, and free spirited female protagonist. Although the plot elements may be predictable, the ride is still entertaining and fun especially during the comedy scenes where the animators swap to a more chibi-like art styles to drive the point across.

This adaptation has changed my mind on low frames per second adaptations. I'll probably stop brushing them off so easily and give more of them a chance.

I have not read the source material so this review is based exclusively on the donghua.

I Upset Millions of Cultivators breathes fresh air into the Chinese cultivation genre with its focus on comedy. The story begins with Jiangbei being isekai'd from a modern world into a traditional cultivation one like Great Doctor Miss Nine but with a unique cultivation system that's exclusive to the protagonist. Jiangbei is rewarded with experience points that can be used to level up, learn new abilities, and forge powerful weapons by simply pissing people off so in the first 30 episodes or so we see him purposely getting under everyone's ... skin so he can rack up points to become OP which leads him to become one of the strongest cultivators in his country (he eventually leaves and is no longer as OP but he still wins every confrontation).

The uniqueness of this show is great but for whatever reason it takes a turn for the worst when the showrunners start leaning towards a more serious style in which the worldbuilding and overall lore becomes more fleshed out. Normally, this would be seen by many as a good thing but this ridiculous-to-serious transition creates a jarring contrast in tones that doesn't seem to be reconciled very well. The overall plot of the show is confusing to follow and seems to be arbitrarily made up episode-by-episode. The characters also maintain the same shallowness you would see in a slapstick comedy. Again, normally this would be fine if the tone remained the same as the first 30 episodes but now that it doesn't, the series really doesn't have any selling points worth mentioning as its now is clashing with itself.

I'm giving it a 4/10 as of episode 57. If the show maintained its style from the first 30 episodes, I would probably give it a 6.

Xun Jian follows the story of the main protagonist, Xiao Ling, who has been arranged to marry the beautiful Yunjing of the Jiang Family. The overall plot is Xiao Ling is ordered by his master to find ten legendary swords to save the world but there's no progress within the first six episodes which leaves me to believe this will be an extremely long running adaptation that fails to progress at a respectable pace.

Although the story may seem original and promising, it consisted of nothing but cliché tropes from other xianxia/xuanhuan titles.

1. Xiao Ling is actually a master who has hidden his true cultivation deeply ... which is the case in most cultivation donghua

2. Xiao Ling is looked down as trash by his in-laws and the antagonists of the story which, again, is like every other cultivation donghua

3. The proof of marriage is by matching the two parts of a ying yang necklace which is similar to The Legend of the Sword Domain's proof of familial ties

4. Xiao Ling has a evil sword spirit/demon heart as a companion which will likely be used to lazily give away plot/worldbuilding details that he otherwise could never know (SUPER LAZY WRITING!!!!) and who also wants to take over the host which is used from dongua like Wan Yu Feng Shen and Peerless Martial Spirit

5. Young Master Shen of the Shen Family is another arrogant, spoiled child who plays the role as the first anatagonist. He does whatever he wants because his family is the strongest in town (ughh). Every cultivation donghua in existence.

6. There's a hot, beautiful woman who uses her sexiness to take over power in the town and manipulate people freely which is another super common trope.

Honestly, there's probably many more stolen ideas but the complete lack of originality is forcing me to drop this earlier than I usually do. If these overused tropes are okay for you, go ahead and give it a watch but if you're looking for something new and original, pass on this one.

I'll start off with saying season one is worse than season two.

-The overall plot (the motivating factor driving the MC) is extremely lackluster in comparison to stories like BTTH and TDG
-All the bad guys are shallow with copied and pasted characteristics
-The characters in general lack personality and are pretty shallow
-The cultivation rate of the MC is ridiculously fast paced and is 100% luck based with no skill
-Harem-y like other of its genre but not as strong. Love it or hate it I guess.

If you're looking for something great, I'd say pass but if you enjoy watching generic Xianxia/ Wuxia donghua for the genre ... itself then power through season one and get to season two where you will see improvements from what I said above.
