[Edited Cuz last one was to long...xD]
Out of the 300+ animes I have seen, Katekyo Hitman Reborn! was one of the few long running Shounen animes to make it onto my top favorites list. The only others to apply to that rule were: Prince of Tennis, Yu Yu Hakusho and HunterxHunter. Shows like Bleach, Naruto and One Piece don't even begin to compare to those four shows in my opinion.
[STORY: 8]
Most Shounen stories start out with a 'hero' who is either completely worthless, or has a 'special skill' that will allow him to 'save the world'. Reborn! is not an acception to that stereotype, and
...
yet it oddly enough made it work better then most shows that I have seen. As far as I know the idea of a 'Mafia' based Shounen anime has yet to be done before this (I don't know if Baccano counts as Shounen or not...). So the idea itself is pretty original. Though despite that it starts focusing less on the Mafia parts, you need to keep in mind that the characters are ranging from ages 14-17 on average. They are not exactly cut our for 'high-end Mafia battles' like the elders of the cast are. Given that you can accept that, the plot is throughly enjoyable (though a bit slow at the beggining and after the Varia Arc until part way into the Future Arc).
[ART: 8]
Normally I would give the Art here a 10. However earlier episodes were to blame for lowering the score. In early episodes Reborn had a very angular and almost square like animation (even in the manga this is apparent). Making the anime seem older then what it actually was. However over time the animation improved greatly. The main turning point for the animation was when Tsuna first went into 'Hyper Mode' during his fight with Mukuro in the 2nd story Arc.
[SOUND: 10]
Pretty much all the music in Reborn is absoultely pleasing to the ears. It doesn't matter if it's the background music or the OPs and EDs. All were highly enojyable.
[CHARACTERS: 10]
Pretty much all of the characters are likeable, even the 'bad-guys'. Sadly lots of characters are highly under-rated as well in the anime. Particularly the females. However this is Shounen after all, and Shounen sells best with a kick-ass male dominated population! It's sad but true. If you learn to accept that fact, its easy to get passed the characters being over-looked. Despite the lack of popularity of he female characters though, everyone in the series is quiet likeable.
[ENJOYMENT: 10]
Despite some boring or slow parts, Reborn doesn't over kill them much longer then needed (unlike other series). The series seem's to know when to draw the line, making it much more enjoyable overall. A great watch for those with sorter patience levels that don't allow them to cope with stories like DBZ, Bleach or Naruto.
