Since no one had written a review for this i thought i would just write something short. I have never written a review before so i am sorry for any mistakes. I have only read 3 Volumes as of now so i might miss something.
Story: 7
The story has been done over and over again, but Gakusen Toshi Asterisk still manages to bring something new.
The story follows the MC Ayato as he tries to find clues of his lost sister. He joins the Seidoukan Academy in order to do this and while trying to find clues he ends up in various situations where he have to
...
fight his way out. The story also kind of evolves into a Blade Dance kind of story with the Tournament part.
But, although the story can rail off sometimes and seem like a cliche harem, it still has it moments and manages to get back on track with some amazing fights and situations that really have me on my edge of my seat.
Only thing i have to complain about, is that Gakusen Toshi Asterisk seems to forget what it really was about. The main plot that was introduced in Vol 1, hasn't almost been touched again after the start of Vol1 as far as i have read. (volume 3)
The thing that make me give this a 7, is the amazing world build up of the setting around them, which i find amazing.
Art: 7
Since this is a light novel, art isn't that important, but the visuals that have been shown are usually top quality and gives an insight in what it really could have looked like.
Character: 6
This is where light novel really doesn't do well. Ayato feels like he is just there. There is no character development of him at all, and he feels like he is just one of those "insert pussy magnet mc here" type of character. Nothing can be comparable with him as he lacks hard of any personal trait.
All of the side characters are really cliche aswell and almost none of them has any major development aswell except maybe 2 and that would be a spoiler if i went into more detail.
Enjoyment: 8
As much as i have actually complained, i just can't stop loving this. The world setup, fighting sequences and dialouges just takes me back for more even with how much they lack in certain parts and how cliche they are.
Overall:
I would reccomend this light novel series to anyone who either loved Blade Dance and are looking for something new or to anyone who enjoys a light novel with super power fighting sequences, harem and romance elements added to it and with a beautiful world setup.
Now off to read the last volume. When i am done with it i might come back and rewrite this review if something really major happened, that i am not expecting to be honest.
