The overall execution and environment did not feel similar since Great Pretender was more of an adventure-type anime but the underlying concept was similar. Kakegurui is about gambling and "luck", with an insanely smart protagonist who is good at their craft. They are put through many insane and wild gambles. Great Pretender is about inanely good con artists. They are good at their craft and are also put through many crazy situations and big cons, tricking millions from the corrupt big shots. Each scenario from both shows are set up like acts, a bit like a mini-stories or mini-arcs, though I would say Great Pretender's acts are more fleshed out due to it being a 23 ep series as opposed to a 12 ep series. (if you don't count S2) Both are put through crazy and unthinkable cases and after a few episodes/cases, you end up expecting them to win basically in all cases, which can be a bit unrealistic given the situations but we're talking about anime here. Realism is not the goal. I had lots of fun for both, watching them play their 4D chess.
