Id like to say for women by woman but its more like for literally everyone by someone extremely empathetic.
My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness is a deeply personal and raw memoir by Nagata, exploring themes of mental health/safety, self discovery, and her sexual identity. The manga has an honest look at Nagatas struggles with isolation, depression, and understanding her sexuality. It speaks not only to those facing similar challenges but to anyone who has ever felt disconnected and/or alone.
A key part of the storys plot is her decision to hire a female sex worker, hoping the experience will help her understand her feelings. While

the encounter is important to the narrative, it expands into a deeper exploration of Nagatas self-worth, societal pressures, and emotional barriers.
The manga is notable for its candid portrayal of mental health. Nagata does not hold back from showing the crushing effects of depression— how it can dominate every part of life. She also explores her sexual identity with honesty, focusing on self acceptance (in a more conservative country) rather than sensationalizing her same sex attraction. The story makes it clear how difficult it can be to understand ones desires when facing personal insecurities, familial stress and societal expectations.
The art style is very simple but powerful and very cute. The minimalist illustrations capture the raw emotion of the story, with subtle facial expressions conveying much of the inner turmoil. The clean, empty spaces and straightforward panels reinforce the sense of isolation and distance that Nagata feels.
Nagata doesn’t just tell a story about sexuality— she explores the emotional and psychological struggles of living in a world that can feel distant and unwelcoming. The manga offers a voice for those who have felt isolated, confused, lost, sad and / or misunderstood.
For anyone who has dealt with depression or questioned their sexual identity, this book feels like a reflection of their own struggles. Even For peeps that havent felt that way this might be a great look into the feelings of induviduals that struggle. It captures the human experience of feeling lost, trying to understand their place in the world.
I think my Lesbian Experience with Loneliness is an important work that challenges stereotypes about both LGBTQ experiences and mental health. It avoids cliches and instead offers a grounded, realistic look at the intersection of mental illness and sexual identity. And sometimes even how both of those topics go hand in hand.
Personally;
As someone who has struggled with mental health, and continues to do so, seeing how Nagata navigates and expresses her feelings in ''My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness'' felt like a warm, empathetic embrace. I've been attracted to both women and men almost all of my life, and I often feel that womens mental health struggles are dismissed or quite literally minimized—often attributed to hormones rather than being taken seriously, like theres always a easy fix. Similarly, lesbianism is frequently over-sexualized in the media, reducing it to a mere spectacle. In contrast, Nagatas story felt authentic and welcoming. While I might not fully relate to everything Nagata experiences, I can definitely understand and empathize with many aspects of her journey. Its worth noting that, as someone who identifies as bisexual, I don't always face the same societal pressures or norms, but I still find her story deeply resonant.
