In both animes we see how the protagonists start playing (xiang Qi/Go), they both seem to have some sort of talent for the game. They play against friends and rivals and stride to become better. In many other aspects they are also very similar.

If you liked Clannad: After Story add

Both are poignant and dramatic animes. we see how the characters struggle emotionally and how they overcome their troubles throughout. Overall both very heartfelt :')

...then you might like Tokyo Lastochika add

In both mangas there are historical elements to it, Emma is set in victorian england and Tokyo Lastochika is set in Japan. Both story revolves around two people on different social classes and their love struggles because of the social hierarchy. Both stories are quite slow paced and have a similar feel to them. Overall both are very enjoyable!
