Very similar feel, melancholic and eerie. Neither series is super well done in my opinion, but they both create a similar mood that I really enjoy. They also have similar aesthetics, with dark colors and sparse animation. I would describe neither as horror exactly, but they're both mysterious and somewhat creepy. Also both exploring the nature of being human in some way. I think if you like one of them, you'll like the other one as well.

The main characters connect over reading BL manga. One character introduces the other who also grows to love it, and they continue to explore the genre together. The biggest difference is that Sasaki and Miyano is a romance story, while BL Metamorphosis is more focused on a friendship.

They are both about young people dealing with difficult emotions. The tone in both series are very similiar. They’re both well-paced and gradually building up characters and relationships, uncovering their deeper truths for both themselves and the audience. They’re also made by the same studio, and they both have great music. Both are very thoughful and feel true to life. I think if you like one, you’d like the other.

They both explore human feelings and relationships in a realistic way. They both revolve a lot around trust and the fears people have when trying to connect with others while desperately protecting thenselves from getting hurt. They both deal with destructive relationships, and thwy explore the reasons and paths that lies behind people's actions and personalities. They both feel very real and heartwarming, while not being afraid to show the darker aspects of life. If you like one - definitely watch the other! They're both really refreshing compared to a lot of the anime that's made today, in that they have a lot of depth and are both more than meets the eye.

Both take place at strict girls only schools. The main characters in both shows fall for a girl who are emotionally unavailable due to their past. The MCs are similar but Yuzu in Citrus is a lot more outspoken and assertive. Their love interests both have a facade towards people. Both shows have layered and well-balanced characters (Citrus a bit more so). They deal with problematic relationship dynamics in a good way. They both turn out really heartwarming and enlightening as we get further into the series. If you like one of these two - definitely give the other one a shot!

Instead of being a continuation och explanation of the main series, the Akuma no Riddle special (Dubbed "Episode 13"...) has absolutely NOTHING to do with the original story expect having the same characters. The special, unlike the series, is pure fanservice. Skimpy breasts, bikinis, low-cut panties that show off their butt cracks... Just like Valkyrie Drive, it's about a group of women without clothes running around fighting eachother with different kinds of weapons in a yuri setting. (They both even take place on an island where the main characters are washed ashore in the beginning of the episode, heh.) I'd actually say Valkyrie Drive is the more entertaining from the two though, simply because it doesn't claim to be anything other than it is. While Akuma no Riddle was a pretty dark and serious show about a group of assassins trying to kill the main character, and then we and up with this garbage after the main series has ended...

They're ALOT like eachother. Both have the magical powers that are granted to young girls without revealing the dark side of the contract until it's too late. Both have naive MCs Both have characters that forget about their past relationships while their friends are endlessly fighting for them. Both have "higher powers" using the girls for their own agendas. Definitely recommend both, if you like one of them, you'll probably like the other. Madoka is a bit more colorful while WIXOSS have a more depressing tone from the start, but they're both really similiar at the core.

They're not all that alike, but they share some similarities. The mysterious powers that turn out to have darker origin that the main character didn't expect. Also the aestethics are somewhat alike, especially during the last couple of episodes in WIXOSS. I'm really surprised noone has mentioned these two before. They are really similar. They're both dealing with philosophical themes concerning death and what it means to be alive, and dealing with consequences of your choices in life. They're both pretty dark and slow-paced animes about a few characters travelling around and discovering their own truth from talking to people they meet along the way. They both also deal with conflicts between robots and humans.

Both are very psychological. They both deal with growing up and feelings of loneliness/alienation/abandonment. Both have characters that want to "evolve" mankind. There's alot of character growth in both series.

The setting is very similiar, as well as the characters. They both take place at a Catholic all-girls school. They both have close relationshipS between girls/GirlxGirl couples. They can both be considered shoujo ai series, although Strawberry Panic more explicitly so (Maria-sama ga Miteru is more hinting about it). Shizuma is very similiar to Sachiko, and Nagisa is very similiar to Yumi. Both Nagisa and Yumi are also new students at their respective school, and both Shizuma and Sachiko have high status and are well-respected among the students. Miyuki and Yoko are very similiar as well, they even look alike. In Strawberry Panic, the religious theme is a bit toned down compared to Maria-sama ga Miteru, where it's a very important part of the setting. Both of the shows have girls admiring their older "sisters" and classmates, often in a romantic way. If you like one you would probably like the other, but know that Maria-sama ga Miteru is a lot less "obvious" with their relationships and that it's a bit more slow-paced and calm in comparison.

There's ALOT of Evangelion references in Symphogear, both in this seasom and the previous. Like the mecha suits that only some people can synchronize with, the mysterious threat only said weapons stand a chnce against, somewhat mad scientists. They also share the religious references, Nephilim, "berserker" mode and so on. Plus in the first season they also have an equivalent of Central Dogma, hosting an artifact that the enemy is after deep underground. I'd say this show is magical girls with a touch of NGE. It's nowhere near as philosophical and deep, but it's definitely very disturbing at times and Symphogear deals with moral questions in their own way.
