I May Be a Guild Receptionist, but I'll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Time is exactly what it sounds like, and it sounds like an interesting idea, until it doesn't. Cool, the MC is not only a receptionist, but also a woman...but what does that really change? She's still the most OP character here, and we hardly ever see her work as a receptionist past the first episode.
plot:
Alina Clover works as a guild receptionist, but has a secret...she goes to dungeons and one shot the bosses because she's tired of the parties taking too long to clear them. She hides her identity when
...
she fights, and people gave her the nickname "The Executioner". One of these dungeons had a boss so strong that not even the strongest party could defeat it, so Alina grabs her trusty hammer and bashes the boss's skull in. But the hero of the party saw her face underneath her hood and discovers her true identity, and tries to get her to join their party. Alina says no because...I don't know, it'd make her life too chaotic or something. From there it turns into a pretty generic fantasy, she helps the party, kills bosses, repeat.
Not a terrible plot for fantasy standards anyway ,although the back and forth between Alina refusing to join and the party trying anyways might start getting repetitive.
characters:
Alina is the highlight no doubt, her attitude is wonderful. She doesn't feel too bitchy or snarky, she's just fed up with all the annoying adventurers, and having to deal with working overtime. That being said, I'm not a huge fan of her gradually getting feelings for Jade (leader of the party) seemingly out of nowhere. She's also fucking terrible at keeping her identity a secret, like 5 people already know and we're only on episode 3. Jade is just the hero character, if you've seen one, you've seen them all. And the other party members are irrelevant. I'm sure her coworkers might also come into play eventually, but they haven't done much either.
art/animation:
Cloverworks have been popping off in the last couple of years, and honestly, might have one of the most recognizable art style from any studio. They're pretty consistent usually too even including their shitty CGI, which I see they still haven't perfected. However, this is definitely one of their weaker showings, not that it looks bad, for fantasy standards this shit looks great. But I mean, they gave us The Elusive Samurai back in summer of last year, it's hard to top that. Besides the first CGI dragon boss, the ones after look pretty good, not that there's been too many shown yet.
conclusion:
I'm still giving this a 7, but it's teetering on being a 6. Depends on how the story progresses from here. I personally don't think this whole guild receptionist gimmick can carry this on it's own, right now it's mostly been the surprisingly good animation and Alina being Alina that makes it good. They explain it a little bit more in episode 3 why Alina chose to be a guild receptionist over an adventurer, but it's like...you've killed so many bosses, you no doubt seen countless dead bodies already, and you clearly hate your job. Just because you like the cute outfit isn't enough to convince me you don't despise dealing with adventurers and doing a crap ton of paperwork of God knows what. JUST BECOME AN ADVENTURER!

Welcome To Japan, Ms. Elf is about...well, it doesn't take a genius to decipher. As we all know, the isekai genre has been a plague on anime for years now, but occasionally they sometimes switch up the formula. While reverse isekais with someone from a fantasy world coming to the real world isn't a new concept by any means, the way this show does it feels new and refreshing.
plot:
Kazuhiro is an average guy, working and what not. His favorite thing to do however is sleeping, because that's when he dreams about a fantasy world where he's a fairly strong adventurer. This man must be the
...
most lucid dreamer ever, he remembers everything that happens in his dreams, and consistently built upon his story for years, he even found the time to learn monster language. Anyways, I'm getting a little sidetracked. Kazuhiro has an elf girl companion named Mariabelle who after shielding her from dragon fire, ends up somehow coming to the real world with him...completely naked, because anime. All they have to do to go back to the dream world is to snuggle up to each other, and poof! they're back.
I also had another thought concerning this dream world, do these guys sleep? like yeah, technically they're asleep in the real world, but they're awake in the dream world until they wake up in the real world. They're basically conscious 24/7, that has to result in some type of health problems.
characters:
Pretty good actually, for fantasy standards at least. I was worried Mariabelle was going to be like every other elf girl in existence, bland with very little personality beyond "nice, shy girl with an attractive figure", but no. Mariabelle's dynamic with Kazuhiro is cute, and so is her genuine curiosity and wonder surrounding the real world. Kazuhiro is an adult man, meaning by default he has more personality than your average fantasy MC, but with that being that, I doubt he could've carried the show on his own. Plus there's a dragon MILF that loves real world food, and a catboy slave (not their slave), but they didn't do much yet for me to like or hate them yet.
art/animation:
Our good friends at Zero-G made this anime, and if you don't know, they're also behind another show airing this season about the elf girl who wants to fuck her cat. Truly their Yin and Yang, one wholesome anime containing an elf girl, and an abomination. Besides that fact, the animation is pretty average, only half of it takes place in the fantasy world though, so I don't mind it too much.
conclusion:
They managed to make an Isekai without it being an Isekai, and that's commendable. Plus it's just a really cute show in general, there's no high stakes, no gratuitous fanservice, just wholesome vibes between an elf girl and a guy with a very active imagination. Imagine if it turns out Mariabelle isn't actually real, and Kazuhiro is just taking this imaginary friend to restaurants and shit? I mean, I know its not, because people can literally see her, but that'd be a fun plot twist. I like it, good job Zero-G, you redeemed yourself...kind of.

We don't get a lot of mystery anime, and when we do it's very hit or miss since it's a genre that can have good cases and bad cases mixed into the same show. Tasokare Hotel is not an exception, falls into the trap of occasionally being interesting, and then just kind of dull.
plot:
Girl named Neko spawns into purgatory, not knowing if she's alive or dead. She spots a hotel that houses the tenants that wind up here, some either being dead, or some being I don't know, in a coma I guess. Their faces get revealed once they remember who they are,
...
and Neko helps solve mysteries of whether they're alive or dead. Pretty simple and intriguing plot, right? Well...as long as you do it flawlessly, with actual interesting mysteries. Which to be frank, I didn't care all too much for in this anime. It's cool trying to piece together if they're dead or not, I guess, but it doesn't really feel like the show is trying to get the audience to solve the mysteries along with Neko to me. And from what was shown so far, the reveals are kind of underwhelming.
characters:
boring as hell, it wasn't until episode 3 until they introduced a guy with some type of personality. Neko is the human equivalent of a catgirl and for being the main character, she doesn't get a whole lot of screentime. Atori is guy working at the hotel because there's nothing else to do, and he's also boring as shit. The other maid worker besides Neko, is another girl who's literally just a one-dimensional tsundere. It wasn't until episode 3 they introduced the manipulative guy, and while he's definitely the most fun character, he's also a very one dimensional "evil bad guy" archetype. He shines more in episode 4 though.
art/animation:
You can tell this is from a visual novel game series, I can't describe why, it just does. Not that it's a bad thing, the art and scenery is nice. Animation is average, but I mean, this doesn't seem like an anime that'll have much action in it anyway. This is the only anime made by Studio PRA that I've seen, not too bad for my first time.
conclusion:
Out of the two new mystery anime for Winter 2025, I lean more towards Ameku M.D: Doctor Detective, but I mean, Tasokare Hotel isn't bad either. The plot is interesting enough, plus judging by episode 4, there's going to be more stakes involved thanks to evil guy man. It's fine, not much else to say.

The Daily Life of a Middle-Aged Online Shopper in Another World is the poor man's Campfire Cooking In Another World, except he buys everything and not just cooking appliances and food. Which on paper sounds interesting, if not a little lazy. However, while I like the more economic aspect with him selling stuff he buys from his world, the harem aspect drags it down by a lot.
plot:
40 something year old man ends up in a fantasy world with the skill "Shangri-La", which allows him to basically get any item Amazon'd to him once purchased. Yes, he does need to spend money, but in these
...
shows the characters just magically become rich lickity split in order not to make the plot go stale, even though I personally think it'd be interesting to see a guy start a business and fear going bankrupt every episode. The opening makes him look a lot more like a fighter than the first 3 episodes do, for half of it he's fighting in a goddamn excavator robot with all his future harem partners. But for now it's just him selling things and building relationships with other companies.
harem:
usually this slot would be for characters, but most if not all the main characters here are the girls that want to fuck him. So far there's been an innkeeper I'm pretty sure he actually does end up having sex with. A catgirl who's surprising mostly anthropomorphic for once. Biblically accurate catgirl. and the daughter to one of the companies, which you guessed it, falls in love with him too. There's more to come, but those are all the ones I bothered to pay attention too. There's also a slave girl that gets teased for a couple seconds per episode, which may be interesting I guess. He himself is fine, he acts like every MC above 30 in anime pretty much.
The harem aspect is my least favorite because it just feels so unnecessary. Not to mention that he's like twice the age of every girl I listed, they're all adults to my knowledge, but it still feels gross to me. Also there's a surprising amount of fanservice here, third episode gave us plenty of shots of Mallow's daughter bathing and there was two episodes where we see the catgirl's furry tits. Just feels odd to me, they clearly have a real plot written, I don't know why they decided to make the harem take up a decent chunk of the runtime.
art/animation:
I've seen worse, definitely nowhere near MAPPA's work with Campfire Cooking, but it's about the average for most fantasies. East Fish Studios doesn't have many titles to their name, but all their shows so far have a 6, which is not great. and from two shows from them that I have seen, they don't have the best art and animation either. Hopefully they make something someday that blows us out of the water though.
conclusion:
Not sure wat to feel about this one, sometimes it's interesting, than I get immediate whiplash from the random scenes with one of the girls being horny for some 40 year old cock. I'm still going to watch this one for a bit to see if he starts building his own foundation, but once it turns into what the opening is like, I'm probably going to dip.

Fuguushoku "Kanteishi" ga Jitsu wa Saikyou Datta isn't the worst fantasy of Winter 2025, but it's definitely near the bottom. Which sucks, because I honestly liked the first episode to this anime.
plot:
Ein was an unlucky sap that was born with an appraisal skill, you already know what that is not going to waste your time. Appraisal is seen as a pretty weak skill in this world, because you can't fight or anything. So his party members just exploit him and throw him to the wolves to save their own asses. Ein gets cornered between either being torn to shreds by the wolves, or jumping off
...
a cliff which he ends up doing. But...yeah, of course he doesn't die. He gets saved by the world tree which heals all, and when he almost gets killed by a bear thing, the world tree spirit's mother reluctantly saves him and ends up as a mentor figure for him thanks to her daughter's wishes. I was hoping this would be a revenge plot, but nope. in the third episode he thanks the guy that threw him to the wolves because without those chain of events, none of this would've happened. So yeah, you can see what type of MC this guy is already.
My biggest problem lies in how they handle the appraisal skill, because obviously they have to make him OP somehow, so to do that his new blue eye gives him the ability to appraise a skill and take it for himself. Which is just so fucking boring, I'm sick of these "he has the ability to do anything!" ass powers. Sure, he has to train to use them more effectively, but we don't see it, and they mention he masters it in like 5 days. Maybe I'd have less of an issue if he was an interesting character, but he isn't, so fuck me I guess.
characters:
There's not much to say about Ein himself, he's the protagonist, he is nicer than he probably should be and he wants to get stronger. Same thing with Yuri/world tree/whatever the fuck you want to call her, she's just as, if not more bland than Ein. Just the nice shy girl with big boobs character who falls in love with Ein at first sight for some reason, oh right, because every fantasy MC needs a harem. And judging by the OP, this dude will have one of the biggest harems this season, besides Rentaro ofc. Plus one of them is a guy and not a girl, inclusivity. Also Yuri's mother is easily my favorite character, I usually don't like the aggressive overprotective parent type, but in an anime filled with boring ass people, she shines through.
art/animation:
About what you'd expect, although there was an explosion in episode 3 that mildly surprised me, better than nothing I guess. Studio Okuruto Noboru has made a decent amount of stuff I've seen before, including My Instant Death Ability is So Overpowered, No One in This Other World Stands a Chance Against Me! Funny how they went from a trashy isekai, to just a trash fantasy.
conclusion:
If you like watching bad anime, go for it. It threads that line of just being watchable enough for me not to call it straight dogshit. That being said, it's still not good by any means.

From Bureaucrat To Villainess: Dad's Been Reincarnated! is easily one of my favorites from the genre and I doubt that will change as it goes on. The concept of a 50 something year old father becoming a villainess is just so stupid it works. Also I'll be referring to Grace as they because their basically two characters in one.
plot:
A 50 something year old man named Kenzaburou gets hit by a truck saving a kid, and for some reason reincarnates as the villainess in his daughter's favorite otome game, Grace Auvergne. It does end up falling into the whole "villainess is not at all a villainess"
...
but they do it in a way where it's endearing and comical. The problem I find with most villainess anime is that the MC either doesn't try at all to be a villainess, or tries too hard to be a villainess. Grace tries to be one, but ends up failing because the dad instincts start to kick in and just makes them sound like a father giving words of encouragement to their kid. Even the part where the princes and even the hero of the game start to develop feelings for him, I didn't mind because like...yeah, I can why. Those dad powers make them more charming then most villainess MCs.
characters:
Grace/Kenzaburou is easily the highlight of the show, their failed attempts at being a villainess while also being absolutely nothing like the bitch the character actually was is very fun to watch. Along with Grace, there's Anna, the hero of the game. Anna does kind of fall into the trap of generic nice, naive girl character, but hey, at least she's not the MC, plus her admiration for Grace is pretty cute. And what shocked me most is that the princes actually have personalities, usually with princess or villainess anime the princes are the most bland ass characters, but here they actually their own quirks and standouts. I also just like how Grace bonded with one of them with dad jokes.
art/animation:
Pretty standard for a villainess anime, maybe a little bit better quality than most, but nothing too impressive. Studio Ajia-do hasn't done many shows I've watched but A Sign Of Affection, which had a better art style in my opinion, but this show still gets the job done.
conclusion:
I am not a huge fan of the Villainess genre, to me it's almost as saturated as the Isekai genre and in most cases, more boring. I'm just not a huge fan of royalty type anime in general, something about them that I just can't get into. And when they do something more interesting, such as I'm In Love With The Villainess, there's usually something else I hate about it. However, I'm glad to say that is not the case with this show, sure the gimmick might run dry soon, but who cares? I can finally say I recommend a Villainess anime. Plus the ed is just so fun and creative, what's not to love?

The True Demon King is still dead, and we still haven't gotten to the tournament arc yet. If you watched the first season, the 2nd is basically the same thing. Introduce two characters each episode, occasionally bring back one of the other fighters, either have them fight or kill one another. repeat.
Some people hate Ishura for this, because admittedly, they are blue balling us every time they introduce a new character when we thought they were done. But at the same time, that's what I like about Ishura, just mindless gore and violence with some badass characters. Sure it doesn't look the best, sure it
...
doesn't have a coherent story, but who. fucking. cares. It's cool, and it makes me feel like I'm in my "I'm 14 and this is deep" phase again.
I do think this new cast of characters will be worse than the first season, only so many times you can create a new one before it starts feeling boring. But that's not to say there won't be good characters, Linaris chick was great and I like the detective boy, giant archer man was pretty cool too. But episode 3 definitely had the weakest batch in my opinion. The naive robot was alright, and the grim reaper was easily my least favorite Ishura has given. Well maybe except for that one girl who can basically do fucking anything she thinks of, I hate those kind of powers.
If you want some turn off your brain fun, Ishura is always a good pick. It's like playing with toys and smashing them together when you were younger. mindless action. mindless gore. This is the type of brainrot we need more of.

Bogus Skill: Fruitmaster is without a doubt, the most uncreative, unoriginal, generic ass fantasy for Winter 2025 in a season chalk full of them. I tried so hard to ironically enjoy this one, but it's not even a so bad it's good show, it's just plain out bad and I get no enjoyment watching it.
Let's go over the pros to this anime: the alternate title is called Failure Skill "Nut Master": It Became Now Possible to Eat as Many Skill Fruits as You Want (From Which You Would Normally Die). That does it for the pros, now let's cover why this show sucks ass.
plot:
Picture
...
this, you live in a world where you gain skills from eating fruits. But if you eat more than one, you die from poison. Oh boy, what an original and endearing way to gain powers, guys. Light and his female friend Lena, go to a church to get their skills. Lena gets a swordmaster type skill, while he gets a farming type skill called "Fruitmaster" which the random little girl that lives with him gets a skill called Appraisal, gee I wonder what that does, and she says Fruitmaster makes it so he's immune to the fruit's poison. So after eating a second one he gets....a swordmaster type skill. Come on, you could've at least given him something else, I guess anything else would be too difficult to animate though...unfortunate.
characters:
bland as hell. There is literally nothing interesting about any of these characters. MC is our typical fantasy MC, little girl is the little girl, and Lena is the most generic ass girl with sword character imaginable. Hell, I'd rather the douchebag hero, or the vampire lady were the MCs, at least they had something interesting about them. Also, this dude doesn't even take advantage of the fact he can have UNLIMITED skills, he only has 2 skills and one of them Lena already has. Only the little girl really has a neat power, and it's fucking Appraisal, we've seen that shit 500 times by now. Hell, there's already an anime this season where the main guy has an Appraisal skill.
art/animation:
Do I really have to mention a word in this category? You already know it's below average, even Seven Deadly Sins S3 had better fight scenes than this shit. This isn't a diss on studio Asahi Productions either, they gave us peak Gushing Over Magical Girls. But they really didn't even bother with this one which is kind of hilarious.
conclusion:
Don't waste your time, this is just the biggest nothing burger of an anime I've seen in a while. If you're going to nab something from One Piece, maybe try the better story writing and better characters next time rather than the devil fruits.

Medaka Kuriowa Is Impervious To My Charms is easily the thrashiest romcom anime of winter 2025, even more than I'm Getting Married To A Girl I Hate In My Class I'd argue. I don't hate this show, I'm fairly amused by it in fact, but I do have to admit there are many MANY problems with it.
plot: 6/10
Mona Kawai is the most popular girl at school, she gets good grades, she has a charming personality, and she looks great. However as you may have guessed, this is a fucking lie and she's actually a narcissistic bitch on the inside because of all the pampering she
...
gets. So when a new transfer student comes along named Medaka Kuroiwa, she tries to charm him too. But that doesn't end up working since he just ignores her and always looks fed up when she tries to talk to him. But it turns out it's not because he hates her, it's because he's a practicing monk who refuses to let his dirty thoughts cloud his judgement.
Simple but effective...if you do it right, which this one is very hit or miss with. This whole gimmick can really only go on for so long until it gets stale which it already is. Especially since this plot has been done multiple times. It's like they combined Yamada's First Time with Temple, but managing to be the worst version of both of them. That being said, it still has its moments where it's fun, it helps that Mona is such a bitch, she's definitely the highlight of the show.
characters: 6/10
I'm honestly shocked that this show has the girl as the protagonist this time around, usually the only time that happens is when it's from a shoujo romance, not one of these trashy romcoms with fanservice. I kind of respect it honestly, and like I said, Mona is the highlight. Her attitude is great, when she pretends to be friendly it's great, I just have a soft spot for these bitchy narcissistic characters. I can't say the same about Medaka, he's such a boring character. The whole schtick of him ignoring Mona to clear his mind gets old fast, and that's basically all he has going for him. I like the subversion with Tsubomi where they lead you to believe she's a rival character, but she's actually obsessed with Mona instead...can't wait to meet the rest of the cast.
art/animation: 6/10
I group these two together for most romcoms since they're usually equally the same, and this is no different. It's a romcom, you know what type of art style it'll have, and these don't require the highest level of animation either. Studio SynergyP has been pretty consistent for most of their anime.
conclusion: 6's across the board, it's enjoyable but not great.
About what you'd expect from this kind of plot, also depends on how repetitive it gets. They basically just do the same thing over and over again but with a different romcom trope. The reason I think this is worse than I'm Getting Married To A Girl I Hate In My Class is because that actually has likable characters and the relationship between the main two is pretty cute. Here, Mona and Medaka could not be further apart, this is easily the most one sided romance I've seen yet in a romcom and all this conflict could easily be solved with just one conversation. "hey, Medaka why do you ignore me?" "um...I'm a practicing monk, so I can't allow myself to get too close to girls" "oh, I see...well, I hope we can still be friends! I'll stop trying to seduce you" Fin.

Back in Winter of 2023 we had a little show called "My Life As Inukai's Dog" and I thought that there's no way Japan would greenlight another one of those types of shows ever again, it was received terribly. The barely disguised fetish is borderline criminal, and it made people on MAL give it a 5.05 which is a huge accomplishment, MAL is full of some of the most heinous degenerates and you somehow even managed to go too far even for them. So when I saw a show coming this winter called "Beheneko: The Elf-Girl's Cat is Secretly an S-Ranked Monster!" with an
...
ecchi tag, I immediately had that same feeling of dread...but I still remained hopeful, maybe this will just be an ecchi fantasy and the MC just happens to be an animal...oh boy, was I proven wrong.
plot:
Guy reincarnates as a behemoth, the strongest beast known to man. However, he looks like a housecat for whatever reason, and an elf girl decides to take him in after finding him injured. I will just refer to her as elf girl, she isn't worthy of a name.
characters:
For the most part for episode one, it wasn't too bad. Minus a few scenes of her staring at the cat's balls with wonder, and having a little too fun massaging him. All that changes in episode 2 when he gets an ability called "crossbreed" and once she hears about it she straight up admits she wants the cat to pin her down and ravage her. Even Inukai wasn't that much of a sexual deviant. There will also be other girls part of the harem that make a tad bit more since I guess, since they're animal girls, but they're still humanoid so it's still pretty gross.
ecchi:
Look, no matter how good the ecchi in this series was, it wouldn't save it. That being said, it was terrible. Out of the three episodes I've watched currently the most ecchi scene was a hot spring with all the girls playing with elf girl's tits.
art/animation:
Basically non-existent, which for this show is pretty deserved. Imagine if this shit got a MAPPA budget? Anyway, what I found funny is this studio, Zero-G, made another show this season called Welcome To Japan, Ms. Elf which is way prettier and much MUCH more wholesome then this hellfire.
conclusion:
Is this worse than Inukai's Dog? hell no. Sure that one only had 11 minute episodes, but it was purely about her trying to diddle the dog. At least this has the fantasy element to save it, regardless of how basic and boring it is. Although, this elf bitch is definitely more of a Zoophile than Inukai was, and I didn't even think that was possible. This is 100% going to be a show people subject themselves too just to see how bad it gets, but you probably won't come out the other side the same again. You have been warned.
