'' I devote my entire being to you. Until the day ... that lies become truth ! ''
After two seasons of mostly non-canon, original material, the Kuroshitsuji series returned to Yana Toboso's manga canon with the famous Book of Circus. After its success, the story of a demon and his young master continued with a next chapter : Book of Murder !
Book of Murder adapts its plot from the Phantomhive Manor Murders arc from the manga. It is a nicely done arc, with an intriguing story, which evolves like a detective story, so that the viewer can participate to its solution. As every
...
good mystery, it has many nice twists and it also uses the famous pattern of the closed room murders (something that gave me some Umineko no naku koro ni vibes). Except from that, another thing that serves as a homage to the genre of mystery was the many references to Sherlock Holmes.
As for the art, it has the same quality of the previous seasons, especially Book of Circus. About the sound, however I was a little disappointed because there wasn't a new opening or ending this time, due to the small number of episodes I suppose. The rest of the soundtrack was ok and it really set the atmosphere, as usual.
Next, we have the characters. Many of the old ones returned, like Lau and Ran Mao, but because of the feeling of isolation that this arc tries to give it omits many fan-favourites (but also a bit unrealistic) like Grell or Undertaker. As for the main protagonists, we see once again the competitive side of Ciel and also his more sentimental side. In this arc, Sebastian mainly follows Ciel's orders, while his hunger for his master's soul grows. It's also the first time that we see Charles Grey (who had first made a cameo in Book of Circus), one of the most interesting characters from the manga, in action. There is also a young author, named Arthur, whose real identity is easy to guess, but that doesn't make him less memorable.
So, it's a very good addition to the Black Butler series and a successful adaption from the manga. Much like Book of Circus, it's a fun to watch series, that everyone can watch, even if they're Kuroshitsuji fans or not.

'' ... over the hills and far away ... ''
After the (non-canon) second season of Kuroshitsuji , the famous anime which portays the story of a demon butler and his master returns to the manga canon with Book of Circus , the season that I consider as the best one in the series so far.
We begin with the story (10/10) . Book of Circus adapts the fan-favourite Noah's Ark Circus arc from the manga. Once again , there are no fillers due to the limited number of episodes , except maybe the first one , which serves as a re-introduction to the characters
...
from the fist season. After this , we immediately dive into the new mission of Ciel and Sebastian , who undercover infiltrate the Noah's Ark Circus , in order to find out the truth behind the serial children disappearances. It's a well-written story , with very good pacing and nice plot twists. I especially liked that they finally deal with one of the most interesting parts of Kuroshitsuji's story for me , the murder of Ciel's parents and what happened to Ciel after that. The whole season's story was well adapted from the manga and leads to a shocking ending , which is one of the reasons that I like more this series than other Black Butler seasons.
Next , we have the beautiful art (10/10) , which returns from the previous seasons refreshed with more modern animation , notably in the case of the main characters. The Victorian background is amazing as always.
About the sound (10/10) , once again the voice actors have done a great job. Both the old ones , like Maaya Sakamoto as Ciel and Daisuke Ono as Sebastian , and the newcomers like Mamoru Miyano as Joker. Also , we have a great new OST , where some of the most notable tracks are the homonym with the title , Book of Circus, and with the wind. As for the opening , SID comes back after the first season with another epic song (Enamel) , which has a very good editing to intrigue the viewers. The ending song (Aoki Tsuki Michite by AKIRA) is also majestic. It's better than the endings of season 2 and it can only compare with Kalafina's Lacrimosa from season 1.
Now , about the characters (10/10). Many of them return from the first series , like Lau and Underaker , and of course the main duet. We have finally an evolution to Sebastian's character as we see him to act more like the demon he is. He is more seductive and he tries to take what he want by any means , while we get that he protects Ciel not so much because he cares about him but more because he doesn't want to lose his prey. It's a nice diferrence from how Sebastian was in season 2. Also , Ciel's character takes much development as we see him in a weak state , tormented by the revival of his parent's death , one of his most horrible nightmares. He is a child who needs protection , but in the same time he has to protect his role as the Queen's watchdog , so he has to be tough. In this arc we really see why Ciel is really the best character in Kuroshitsuji. There are many new characters too , like Joker , Beast and Doll , who are so much interesting.
Overall , it is a very funny series to watch , with a serious and a very dark side. As I have said before , it's the best Kuroshitsuji series so far. Maybe the first two seasons isn't for everyone , but with Book of Circus and it's sequel (Book of Murder) Kuroshitsuji becomes a really good anime that anyone (even if he isn't a Kuroshitsuji fan) can enjoy !!

After I complete the first season, I started to hear the complaints of other fans about Kuroshitsuji II ... that it deviates completely from the manga , that the new characters are horrible and that this series destroyed the franchise. I choose to give it a chance so here is my review of Kuroshitsuji II.
At first, we have the story (9) ! The episodes are only 12 so there aren't many fillers. Instead we have the story of Ciel's return and his clash with the house of Trancy. I was interested to see how Ciel escaped from what happened in Season 1 (which
...
was one of my favourite anime endings) and I liked the explanation. Well , to be honest the whole story had some holes but it has a nice pacing and great twists. It really has nothing to do with the manga, but it's a nice what-if. A big what-if is also the ending of the series, which is so much ambiguous and it has the smell of a fan-fiction. It's an interesting one but I can't accept it as canon to Ciel's story !
The art (10) is perfect, as it was in the first season. The whole Victorian scenery returns, with new places, like the Trancy's mansion, as beautiful as the old ones.
As for the sound (10) , it's very interesting. They are giving the same operatic vibes with the first season's soundtrack. My favourite tracks were Dance macabre and The butler of Trancy's. The opening , Shiver from the GazettE , is as epic as Monochrome no kiss and it has two versions , much like the first season's , one for Alois and one for Ciel. There are two endings also for each one of these main characters.
The characters (9) who had came back , like Ciel and Sebastian , are just as interesting as before. In this season , Sebastian returns with more concern and sympathy for Ciel and this time he has met his match in the face of Claude Faustus , the Trancy's butler , who becomes the antagonist of this series. For the new butler , there is a new master. The notorious Alois Trancy is the most interesting character of the season ... something like the dark alter ego of Ciel. Meanwhile , Ciel Phantomhive struggles to regain his memories and learn his destiny.
Finally , it was a fun to watch series , which served good as a sequel and a conclusion to the story. As I said before , I liked the series' ending but I can't say that it's canon. We can assume that the second season is an enjoying homage in the Black Butler series that any fan can easily watch !

Kuroshitsuji is a well - known manga / anime series that I always wanted to watch because I like so much the whole gothic and Victorian England scenery. Let's start then ...
Firstly, I gave a 10 to the story. I know that there are many complaints about the fillers but even that episodes are funny. Also, I'm kinda disappointed that they part ways with the manga and choose a different path but I'm glad that they adapt their story well and they gave a proper conclusion to Ciel's story. Honestly, my favourite parts were the Jack the Ripper arc and
...
the finale !
The soundtrack is also perfect and so much fitting to the anime , but the real masterpiece is the opening ! Monochrome no kiss is one of the best anime openings I have ever heard and I love how they used the second part of the song for the last part of the season. The visual part of the openings were also perfect and teasing for the next part of the anime. The endings were very good but I prefered Lacrimosa , since it fits so much with the tone of that episodes. As for the voice actors they have done marvelous job especially Daisuke Ono, Maaya Sakamoto and Jun Fukuyama !
Furthermore, the characters were so much well written that you could easily relate to them. That applies mostly in Ciel's case, where we had seen him grow so much as a character. About the secondary characters, maybe they didn't have so much screen-time to evolve, but there are many all time classics like Grell , Undertaker and even Lau !
Lastly, for the enjoyment, I had a great time watching this anime. Many fans may prefer the manga [and I will certainly check it] but I believe that they should also give a chance to the anime !
