All right, I don't typically write any reviews. Nor do I feel a usual need to chime in, when there is often a huge amount of other reviews that cumulatively amount to what I think in some way or form, whether in one review or many reviews in bits and pieces.
However, this time, I just had to write something, more of an opinion than anything. This is going to heavily contain spoilers, which will be tagged and far below this, so only click 'read more' if you've already watched it all.
(And I mean seriously, most people have already voted on the reviews that
...
mattered long ago, so I can only assume this won't be seen by that many people anyway)
***********SPOILERS BELOW************
Okay, so here's the thing. I'm highly annoyed, but I think there's a few different perspectives to take on this as well.
1: Overall story/ENDING. Yes, I understand people feel incredibly betrayed and left in the dust, feeling like the writer had just made it all 'Pointless' and nothing is worth anything anymore, especially for all the trouble and girls he turned down, in the end, nothing is gained. While I DO think this is somewhat true, to a high point, I'll explain why in the next bit.
But before that, there's a certain 'Well, Yes, this is okay. Kind of' to how it DID end. I don't really care if people are incestuous if it's for Love, so that's not going to bias my opinion at all. But, in a way, I'm kind of happy for a 'grounded, down to earth' approach to it. That they decided to 'Have a short, burst of free and uninhibited Love' for the time before graduation, and end it, knowing it couldn't possibly work in the future and they'd end up hurting their parents and probably themselves in the process. Yes, we're watching a fictional story and of course we all want to see 'True Sibling Love' stand above all and triumph, and trust me, I wasn't expecting or enjoying to the highest degree that it ended the way it did.
BUT. While I did feel the same 'Jesus, SERIOUSLY, AFTER ALL THAT, YOU PISS IT ALL AWAY?!'
A Part of me, still felt this was somewhat okay. That it made sense to some degree and that part of me rather enjoyed that they took this grounded approach to reality.
2: HOW-THE-FUCK-EVER. However. I do fervently believe 'To love and lost is better to not have loved at all', I DO NOT for ONE SECOND, condone what they did to Kuroneko. I just don't.
I wasn't really rooting for that 'route' until they started dating. Seeing that girl put all of her heart, emotion and passion into that relationship, only to be turned down AFTER SHE BROKE UP WITH HIM AND HE WENT TO GET HER BACK, HE JUST TURNS HER DOWN? That was straight up stringing her along!
Every other girl in the series, he didn't show any real feelings for (aside from his sister). But Kuroneko, I feel like he straight up strung her along.
With her saying things like 'No matter what he did, even if he did it with his sister, I'd love him forever and stay with him', I honestly felt like if they were going to have them 'break it off after graduation' anyway, he could have left that bridge unburnt! I feel like Kuroneko would have been VERY happy letting him get his feelings for his sister out in that period of time, really let his love shine with her, and then had him!
I know, it must sound like 'oh, boo hoo, you didn't get your pairing', but he bloody TELLS Kuroneko he loves her and I truly felt like she not only deserved to be with the guy (in the sense of, if they were going to break it off after graduation ANYWAY). I think this would have been a very satisfying ending for many, if not most, of the fans. Every other female, I didn't feel -too- bad that he denied their love. But her? When she tore that book? Yeah, they tried to play it off with her humor/delusions, but how many of you practically cried at that moment. Watching her heart tear up like that.
Anyway, I know this was more of a rant/opinion piece with bad writing and run on bullshit, but I sincerely believe that this ending was 'good' in it's own right, but having him tell Kuroneko to 'wait until he could make sure he and his sister have no regrets in the future', then getting with her after they've done the wedding, could have been the best possible ending where the most fans would be happy with the result, over THIS.
Thanks.
